Story
To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 14 months Weight: 47 pounds This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Sylvie is a beautiful young adult boxer mix whose foster mother describes her as being "perfect." She was found abandoned on the road by one of our rescue partners and was never claimed. We believe that she may have been dumped because she was heartworm positive, although she has now completed her medical treatment and is feeling just fine. Sylvie has been living in an active foster home for four months, with an adult couple, three children, cats, and other dogs. She is very playful, but respects corrections. She will frolic with the resident cats, but always stops when they get bored, and never gets too close. She respects the one cat who might give her a whack, and politely keeps her distance. Sylvie has a fabulous time romping with the resident dogs. She enjoys games of chase, bitey-mouth, and rough wrestling with them. She is an outgoing girl who likes going places, and meeting new people and pets. Sylvie appears to have had basic training, and she has never had an accident in her foster home. She is calm and quiet in her crate, and she walks very nicely on her leash. Her foster family reports that she never barks. We always recommend obedience training for our dogs, since it helps you form a bond with your new pal, and we think that Sylvie will be the star of the class! Sylvie is a genuinely great dog, and her lucky adopter is going to have a wonderful time with her! Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment, and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor. July 15, 2024, 8:31 am
