Story
Bluey is a male gray and tan, small and compact Pit Bull Terrier type dog. He is guessed to be 4 years old and he weighs in the 40s#. Bluey is neutered and vaccinated including rabies. He is heartworm negative and is on monthly heartworm prevention. He is also getting his teeth cleaned soon. Bluey is ready for adoption.
Bluey likes everyone and wants everyone to like him. He had a rough time that led to him coming to our rescue just before Thanksgiving 2023. Bluey was picked up from a ditch by animal control in a nearby parish suffering from wounds from a dog attack. His face, head, neck, and chest had numerous bite wounds that were infected. We know Bluey well now, and realize that he probably would not even try to defend himself from such an attack. He required immediate medical attention and the healing actually took several weeks because of the nature of the wounds. At some earlier time he’d had his ears cut off with scissors but that had healed. And we don’t know what happened to his tail. Bluey ain’t got nothin but love though, despite it all. He will go anywhere you go and happily. His only issue has been potty training. None of the conventional schedules or methods were clicking for him. But finally in the last few months we have found something that does. Bluey requires a decent chunk of outside time every day, a block of 3-5 hours works great. It can be during the day most of the year, and perhaps at night during the hot months. Also this means Bluey needs a fenced yard with appropriate shade, preferably a porch, and water. Bluey also wouldn’t mind a friend, but he doesn’t require one as long as he gets lots of love from his people. He has not been destructive outside (nor inside). Another possible system that would work for him might be a doggie door, although we do not use one. Or perhaps a couple of longer leash walks every day. If you want a ride along buddy, someone that can be trusted to meet everyone kindly including children, adults and other dogs, Bluey would be a great companion.
