Story
We adopted Willa from the Animal Humane Society in April 2020. She is now 4 years old. Willa is very affectionate and loving of her owners, and she is highly protective of us. Unfortunately, that means that she has trouble accepting new people into our home, experiences separation anxiety, and doesn’t get along well with other dogs. While we can handle the separation anxiety and limit her exposure to other dogs, we have two elementary-age kids who like to have their friends over, but their friends are scared of Willa. While Willa has never been aggressive towards our children, she has scared several kids' friends by barking/growling, nipping, or charging at them. We have consulted a number of professionals about Willa's behavior and have trialed medication. While progress has been made, we cannot further accommodate Willa's needs in our home without risking injury. She would be an amazing companion for an individual or couple who do not have kids and can provide her love and patience.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* My name is Daisy and I am a senior girl who is two parts sweet, one part sassy. I'm very easy-going most of the time, but once I want some pets or think I might get to go for a walk, I can get a little bossy and bark or paw at my foster mom. I love being outside and soaking up the sun, but walks are my favorite. I get along well with the other dogs in my home, and pretty much just ignore the cat. I enjoy getting pets on the head and ears, but I'm not too sure about the whole cuddling thing yet. My favorite place to sleep is on the dog bed in the bedroom by the humans. I haven't met any kids yet, but I'm very gentle so I think I would be okay with respectful & dog-savvy kiddos!   Something really important to know about me is that I have something called hyperparathyroidism. What this means is that a tumor in my parathyroid gland produces excessive levels of parathyroid hormone, leading to increased blood calcium levels, which will become toxic to my kidneys. I'm on some meds to help with this, but because I'm an older gal, the vet thinks that it won't be too long before symptoms start to get worse, and he can't be sure what my life expectancy looks like.    But, my foster mom says quality is more important than quantity, and she says that I am a quality dog that has so much love left to give! And honestly, who couldn't love a beautiful girl like me? My ideal home would be patient, loving, and on the calmer side who is willing to work with my condition. If that sounds like you, let's go for a walk and get to know each other, I'd love to meet you!   Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and rec ommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Daisy is from a local impound.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Cosmo, a 4.5-month-old Cocker Spaniel/American Staffordshire Terrier mix with a heart full of love and a playful spirit! This sweet boy is crate trained, rides well in the car, and knows how to sit. Cosmo is a typical goofy puppy who loves playing with other dogs and his toys. He tends to be more independent than his littermates. He will often entertain himself with a toy. He’s affectionate and loves to cuddle, often falling asleep in the silliest positions. Although he can be a bit shy at first, he quickly warms up and shows his playful side. Cosmo would thrive in an active home, especially with another playful dog to keep him company. Born in rescue with his brother Halo , he may look like a Labrador Retriever, but his Cocker Spaniel roots shine through in his personality. Check out the image of his brother's DNA test if you don't believe it! If you’re looking for a loving, goofy companion, Cosmo might just be the perfect fit for you!   Cosmo is from Texas.
