Story
Grayson is looking for a new home! This boy is super affectionate and is looking for someone to share his love with. Grayson tested positive for FIV, but can live a normal, healthy life. According to the Humane Society of the US, "Cats with FIV often have similar life spans to cats without it: Studies conducted in 2010 and 2022 found that an FIV diagnosis wasn’t associated with decreased lifespans. In fact, cats can remain asymptomatic for years or even their entire lives." Read more about FIV: https://www.humanesociety.org/news/fiv-positive-cats Adoption fee: $175 (Includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, worming, and FeLV/FIV test - over $350 worth of veterinary care!) Go to www.ColumbusPetRescue.com to begin the adoption process today. We have invested time, money, and care into our feline friends and want to ensure they never have to be abandoned again. Click on "available pet" and scroll down to find the adoption application. After filling out an application, e-mail it to ColumbusPetRescue@gmail.com. We will process your information and check veterinary and other references. Finally you may be scheduled for a home visit to make sure the environment is perfect for your new family member. Once you are approved, the process is simple: choose your new cat, meet and greet him or her, and, if all goes well, you have yourself a new pet. (All cats will be spayed or neutered before going to their new home.) E-mail your application to ColumbusPetRescue@gmail.com today! We only adopt within the state of Ohio.

Story
Hello Everyone! Im so hoping someone can adopt my darling sweet loving Henry. When I first found him, had four cats of my own so I could not bring him in. Last summer two of them passed due to old age, so when it got cold in Oct/Nov 24, I let him in. He adapted immediately including no potty accidents at all. He's so happy in his new home, and deserves to have a bed and a warm place to sleep and all the love after a rough time outside. He absolutely LOVES my one girl cat (a stray I brought in a month ago-Kiki) but he's aggressive with my other sweet girl cat Inka, who has lived here for 7 years. I would be willing to adopt out Henry and his sister Kiki too who he loves since I haven't had her long and if it would help his transition. I will be so so sad to see him go but I'm desperate for my Inka to be happy again. Im willing to take him back if it doesnt work out!! I think hed get along with a dog bc hes REALLY playful and loving and afraid of nothing.

Story
Penny is a 2 year old domestic shorthair and was adopted from the Humane society as a kitten. She is curious and loving. She is good with dogs as we foster puppies and has never had an issue. I moved in with my girlfriend who has a dog door for the fosters to use and Penny has figured it out as of 6 months ago. She had not been an outdoor cat previously but as of late has shown off her hunting and gathering skills. This has caused us to close her off to our basement and I believe she deserves better than that, and would be a great addition to any home!

Story
Hi, My name is Miley. My current mommy got me the day she moved into her own place back in July 2021. I've been spoiled ever since. I was the only child in the house. I got to sleep in the bed, play all day, and watch tv. But mom got busy with work and then suddenly got me a sibling. A dog sister that I didn't ask for. While my favorite thing is to sit in the window and sun bathe, I'm no fan of my sister and can't stand her. I asked mom if I could move out as I'm about 4 years old now. As much as mom doesn't want me to, she gave me the thumbs up to find a new home that is just right for me. Hope to meet my new parents soon!

Story
Hi! Vern is a 4 year old male cat whom we adopted in october. We have a cat with some special needs and he has unfortunately not been able to interact with her in a safe way. She has been locked in a room for a couple months, and we have now noticed our young male cat copying this behavior. unfortunately we don’t have the time or resources to reintroduce all of our animals, and get them any behavior therapy they may need. This decision has been hard to make but is unfortunate needed for our family. he is an absolute lover he likes to cuddle and rub your legs. his weakness is food he would do anything for some wet food. he would be a perfect cat in a single pet household, the more human interaction the better!

Story
Dad was found with his girlfriend and two kittens in an unsafe area by S IH-35. He got along well with his girlfriend and kittens, but they were scooped up and found homes. Dad was fixed and put back on the streets before anyone noticed how friendly he was! A nice human stepped in and noticed his health was deteriorating outside and had no constant source of food or water. He was taken inside to focus on his health. Turns out, he LOVES being around people! Dad thinks toys are ok but prefers getting pets and sitting next to a loving human or snuggling at night! Although Dad tested positive for FIV (weakened immune system), FIV cats tend to have normal life spans when cared for and the majority never experience complications. FIV is only transmitted to other cats through blood transfusions and serious penetrating bite wounds. FIV cannot be transmitted to humans or other animals. Dad would be the healthiest as an indoor cat but a bonus to have access to an enclosed outdoor space.

Percy is 5 months (born September 2). He's a very sweet, loving, and affectionate boy. He's playful (climbing & parkour apparently lol), fairly verbal. Loves to cuddle & be with his brother. I would prefer to keep them together, but he'd be okay with his person or with a friend!

Story
Hi! I’m looking to rehome a young cat (under 2 years old). She’s an independent kitty who isn’t too cuddly or overly affectionate, but she’s sweet in her own way. She tends to be a bit more comfortable around men, so she might be a great fit for a male household or someone who is patient with her while she warms up. A few key details about her: • Age: Less than 2 years old • Temperament: Not a lap cat, but enjoys her space • Personality: Independent, not overly friendly • Ideal Home: Would do best with someone who understands that she likes her space but still has a lot of love to offer in her own way She’s healthy, spayed, and litter box trained. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance companion who appreciates personal space, she might be the one for you! Please reach out with any questions or if you’re interested in meeting her.

Story
Pallas is sweet and loving. I adopted her about 3 years ago, but I’m renting and my landlord won’t allow a pet. She’s great with my mom’s two smaller dogs and cat - we lived in the home with them for two years and she loved hanging out with the dogs! She likes to be held and will cuddle up with you on the sofa. She’s vocal and likes to have chats, which makes her great company for a single person. She’s well behaved, litter trained and not a scratcher.

Adopting a Burmese

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an Burmese - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

Adopting a Burmese cat from a rescue organization or shelter typically costs between $100 to $300. The adoption fee often includes basic veterinary care such as spaying or neutering, vaccinations, and sometimes microchipping. Conversely, it can be prohibitively expensive to buy a Burmese from a breeder, with costs ranging between $800 and $1,500.

The easiest way to adopt a Burmese is through a rescue that specializes in Burmese. A great place to start is by creating a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available Burmese cats in your area.

Burmese fun facts

Fun Facts:

All modern Burmese cats can be traced back to Wong Mau, a cat transported in 1930 from Burma (now Myanmar) to San Francisco.

Burmese genes are magic -- well, almost. They have a gene that makes solid black appear dark brown by taking the hair and turning down the pigment.

European Burmese cats look quite different from American Burmese cats -- different eye, head, and body shapes.
