Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Introducing sweetheart Susie! She’s a 6-year-old, 23-pound possible Cairn Terrier mix. Sharing space on the couch is mandatory according to Susie. She loves her people, is very affectionate and loves, really LOVES to cuddle on the couch. She may join you and put her head on your lap or turn upside down for belly rubs. She likes to be brushed, but not for very long before her well-groomed look turns to “Terrier Chic.” However, daily brushing is a must. She sheds very little and her foster mom does not notice tumbleweeds of dog hair on the hardwood floors. Susie is housebroken and crate trained. Her crate door is always open, she often goes in on her own, fluffs up her blankies and takes a nap. She sleeps all night in her crate until someone greets her with a good morning! and then she joins her person to go outside and greet the day. She likes to take walks and is a polite girl on the leash. She is friendly with people big and small, and all of the dogs she meets on her walks with her foster but has no experience with cats in our rescue. A visitor at your house will always be greeted by a cheerful, happy-to-see-them Susie. She knows jumping is not allowed, but sometimes she forgets. Sometimes she hears the word “down” and immediately drops and looks ashamed. There is a ”paws up” presentation that is acceptable. When an adult is sitting on a chair with an accessible lap Susie will squeeze in and carefully move up until she can gently put her paws on her person’s chest. This position is perfect to give her a body hug- which she loves. Susie understands: down, come, no, but selectively hears sit which is a work in progress. She moves in a circle and twirls away when she is told to sit. We were surprised Susie has no interest in playing with toys. When a ball is thrown, she will follow it until it stops but does nothing except a cursory glance and walk away. Susie is very assertively affectionate and loves to be by her person’s side. She will need to be in a home where someone is around most of the time to give and receive love, and because she may be showing some nervousness during our Florida storms. Since she is a low shedder, she will need an occasional groom. She is a pretty chill girl who is easy to take care of, does not necessarily need another dog or a fence - as long as she gets walks and lots of love. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the perfect forever home for Susie, please complete an app and tell us more about you. August 20, 2024, 11:58 am
