She's a beautiful brindle approximately 4.5 years old and 100 lbs. She has been spayed and is up to date on rabies, distemper/lepto and Bordetella vaccines. She has been on continuous flea/tick preventative since June of 2023. She was found as a stray with no tags or microchip and has been boarded at Sibley Animal Hospital, 1020 Sibley Blvd, Calumet City since June. She is a gentle giant. One of the staff at Sibley is about 100 lbs. and is Chesnut's buddy. They play tug-of-war and while Chestnut could throw her around like a rag doll, she never even pulls on her. She takes treats very gently and never messes in her kennel. She is a little slow to warm up to people (no more than a few minutes), men in particular, but once she does, she's a love bug. She is fine with the house cats and other dogs. She is in perfect health and is on no medications other than the preventatives. While everyone at Sibley loves her, a kennel is no place for her. He does fine being left alone, but prefers to be with people. He has met the neighbor dog through the fence, but has mostly ignored him. He has done fantastic with all the people he has met. He loves the car, and every time we go outside he runs to the gate hoping for a car ride. He is very chill but does throw his weight around when he wants attention The perfect adopter is patient and kind. Toby will need lots of reassurance to regain his confidence and to know that he is safe. His perfect adopter would be someone that can be home and with him most of the time. He seems to be ok with other dogs, but doesn't need a home with one. He is not big long periods outside, so would be happy with a daily walk. She enjoys long, leisurely walks with plenty of time to check out all the good sniff spots, and playing chase with her foster sister. She does great in her crate, both during the day and overnight and lets you know when she needs to go outside with a gentle paw placed on your lap. Martha is still a bit skittish around new people, but once she gets used to someone, she is happy to make friends. Martha would do just fine with a first time giant owner, provided they are strong enough to handle her. Her perfect adopter would be someone who is willing to give her lots of love and attention- she wants to be in your lap as often as possible. While she would certainly enjoy a fenced yard, she is doing fine without one. So far she has gotten along with every dog she has met, but another dog in the home is not a requirement. She should not go to a home with small animals (bunnies, guinea pigs, etc) as she has a very strong prey drive. Despite her rough start to life and only knowing being breed and kennel life, Gracie is a little princess and is very trusting of people.She prefers to spend her time on her person’s lap and with them at all times. Gracie while still young acts and plays like a puppy with other dogs, she does forget how strong she is and can knock some smaller dogs over while trying to run and play. She is not a fan of bathes, but will tolerate them if you promise to sit on the edge of the tub so she can be between your legs . She is still working on her basic commands, but is already showing great progress in the little time she has been in her foster home. She stays on her unfenced yard and comes when called. Her nights are spent on the couch with her foster siblings or in her foster mom’s bed cuddling. Although she is not a fan of getting into cars, she does love riding in them, but will try to jump out the window if given the chance. Gracie does still show occasional signs of resource guarding with treats, but is also improving on this. Gracie would do best in a home that is well educated in guardian breeds as she may be small, but she is very strong. She does not require a fence, but does like having her freedom of roaming in and out as she does in her current foster home. Gracie would do well with other dogs with slow introductions or would be completely happy as an only dog.
