Story
One SMART Kitty!Floyd was born about November 9, 2010 and weighs about 15 lbs.  This big kitty is a very smart boy and appeared here winter of 2017.  It seems he found the cat door in the front of the garage, wandered around in the garage long enough to find the cat door into the cellar where there is an endless supply of kitty food, fresh water and a rather consistent temperature of about 60 degrees.  So, winter of 2017 he terrorized the staff and the dogs that visit the cellar now and then to try to find 'treats' that the other rather feral cats, who live inside (cellar)/outside leave for them.  He was fine with the other cats, but the dogs weren't allowed to come up the steps after they got down!   No humans were allowed to touch him and if you reached for something in the shelves where he was lurking you'd get a good swat on your hand that goes 'THUD'!   Then summer came and he was gone.  The cellar was much more accessible to all of us, but we must admit we missed him a bit and hoped he was ok.  Then came winter of 2018 and the snow and cold hit early - Floyd was back!   He looked a little rough, but it didn't take long for him to regain his shiny fur and eyes.  And much to our surprise he was just a teensy bit friendlier and seemed to be taunting 'Cat Man Drew' by rubbing on his legs, yet swatting his hand if it came close.  OK...now is the time to neuter this boy!   'Cat Man Drew' grabbed him with some big gloves and into a crate he went!!!    Then off to see Dr. Rasey to get the deed done!  He recovered a few days in a crate and then was cautiously set free in the cellar looking rather indignant!  Perhaps he's mellowed a bit and we don't know if he'll be leaving again this summer, but if he does he may find his summer activities dampened just a bit if you know what I mean.    : )   We understand it is unlikely anyone will want to adopt Floyd, but we thought it was fun to tell his story and hope you enjoyed reading about him.  We've deemed Floyd a sanctuary pet and he is considered 'un-adoptable'. Joyful Rescues remains committed to our Sanctuary Dogs and Cats. They will stay with us for their natural lives and we will care for and love them. We will be their forever family. We wish we could do it alone but we need your help. We are looking for people who can help us with Floyds care. Please click the link below and donate. Story
Sadly, I Was Not Socialized. William was born about June 1, 2018 and is a healthy, happy, cat that is wonderful with the other cats and the visiting dogs.  Sadly, he is very fearful of humans as he was not socialized as a baby.  Joyful Rescues is looking for a home for this kitty that someone will be very, very, patient and/or let him be himself.  He would never attack anyone, but would just run away.  We would also be willing to let him go to an inside/outside or decent barn 'home'.  It would be nice if there was another kitty to pal with as he's always been with others.  All medical care has been done and there will be no adoption fee.  It is very sad, but way too many humans turned kittens into us that they said were friendly that were not and now we are unable, at this time, to take more cats in.  We could sure use your help to place our now sanctuary cats that live at the main location in the basement/garage/outside.  They are good about using the litter box.  Thank you.   Prior to being released as a sanctuary cat he was neutered, vaccinated, wormed, and tested negative for FIV/FELV.  He is given flea control throughout the summers. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A CAT FROM JOYFUL RESCUES We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption. Story
We are SOOOO lucky!Igor was born around May 23, 2018  Igor came to us as a feral teen kitten who was passed the point where he could easily become friendly.  For this reason Igor lives as an outdoor/indoor garage and heated basement kitty at the main location of Joyful Rescues. He is one of several sanctuary kitties here that live the best life possible for them.  We cannot touch him, but as you can see he is well fed.  lol!  Our sanctuary kitties are welcome to live here the remainder of their lives unless a suitable home or decent barn environment becomes interested in them.   The ADOPTION FEE for Igor is $25.00 We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    All kittens/cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, wormed, treated for fleas and tested negative for FIV/FELV. Story
I'm One of the Sanctuary Cats.Bobbie Tail was born about September 6, 2012 and came with kittens.  Her kittens grew into wonderful youngsters, but Bobbie never did become social so she is a Joyful Rescues sanctuary kitty.  Our sanctuary kitties have cat doors open 24/7 for them to enjoy the outside, as they are all unfriendly to humans, then go through the garage into the basement where it never gets below 60 degrees.  They are all spayed/neutered and vaccinated on intake and if we can catch them at all we do update the rabies when due.  They are welcome to live out their lives here or if ever an appropriate home comes along such as a nice horse barn that needs a cat or two we would/have let them be adopted.  We started our own TNR type program here in 2016 and have only lost one cat to very old age.  All others have found barn homes or have been here fat and happy living the best life for them. Story
Joyful Rescues is considering Tom to be a sanctuary kitty with us.  It's not that he is feral as are the other 6 sanctuary kitties here that live in the basement, garage, outside, with cat doors open 24/7.  Tom is a friendly kitty, but he seems really elderly and it also seems that he has lived a rather rough life and likely mostly, if not all, outside.  He was not neutered until he arrived....maybe his playboy days were over so he decided to find a nice retirement home as he invited himself to live here.  Whether one of the other cats showed him all the doors or he found them himself is a mystery, but he's not the first kitty to simply appear in our basement.  He was afraid of us humans at first, but warmed up quickly once he realized he was safe.  Tom is very happy here and hangs around the humans when outside.  We have noticed that his eyes seem 'weepy' and his breathing is audible.  Other than this he seems healthy for his age and has a good appetite and gets around just fine.  Just an absolute guess maybe he was born in 2009.  Would we welcome an adoption for Tom?  Yes, as long as we felt he would be happier there than he is here. A cat can live 12-18+ years if cared for properly. Be sure you are able to care for it for its lifetime. The ADOPTION FEE:  There is no fee for Tom. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A CAT FROM JOYFUL RESCUES We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. Story
Izzy was born about October 3, 2020 would be our guess by looking at her teeth - they look great!  However, we were told by a neighbor that she may be 4-5 years old and judging by her belly fat that is probably the case.  The story goes that a woman passed away suddenly in September of 2021 leaving her young adult son alone in the city of Buffalo rented home with the two cats.  Then a girlfriend moved in and then they both moved out summer of 2022 leaving the cats behind.  What good kitties as they continued to use the litter box that was becoming quite full by the time the owner of the home visited and was so kind.....that he opened a window so the cats would escape - but they didn't so then they were tossed out on the street!  Then comes along a kind neighbor who contacts one of Joyful's very dedicated volunteers and thankfully we had room to take these kitties in quickly.  Thank you, Renee!  Renee fostered them for a few days before coming here and said she did well with her other cats and her small dogs.  Izzy was comfortable enough in the transfer that she was rubbing her head against Renee's fingers through the crate.   The adoption fee for this kitty is $100.00. A cat can live 12-18+ years if cared for properly. Be sure you are able to care for it for its lifetime. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    All kittens/cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, wormed, treated for fleas and tested negative for FIV/FELV.
