Story
Introducing Hondo, the loyal and brave companion you've been waiting for! Hondo is a true good boy, showcasing his friendly nature with both people and fellow furry friends. He strikes the perfect balance between confident and respectful, making him a wonderful addition to any household dynamic. While Hondo may be a bit head shy when it comes to leashes, it's a trait rooted in his past experiences - his ears once caused him discomfort. But with patience and understanding, he's slowly overcoming this challenge. This resilience highlights his adaptable nature and willingness to grow. Crate training is a breeze for Hondo, reflecting his cooperative spirit. He's well-versed in the art of sitting and enjoys eating a peaceful meal. These traits make him a joy to train and a promising companion for both new and experienced pet owners. Hondo's ideal home is one that's lively and active, as he thrives in an environment where he can stretch his legs and engage in the joyful act of running. With a strong recall foundation already in place, he's open to further fine-tuning this skill. This warrior-dog's name is music to his ears, and he responds to it with enthusiasm. Though his recall could use a bit more polish, his eagerness to learn shines through. Hondo's adaptable and resourceful nature, coupled with his receptive attitude, make him a loyal partner for all your adventures. If you're seeking a four-legged friend who embodies both resilience and companionship, look no further than Hondo. He's ready to stand by your side and show you the depths of his affectionate heart. Don't hesitate to welcome this valiant spirit into your home! "Get your motor runnin'! Head out on the highway! Looking for adventure and whatever comes our way!!!" That is one pawsome song right? My name is Wanda! I am 2 year old Catahoula mix :) looking for an ACTIVE family! They say I'm a very smart cookie, that sounds amazing!!! Who doesn't like cookies?! I know sit, fetch and learning to drop it. I have doggie friends and I've met the kitties and they are ok too! I am still a little nervous with new people and sometimes like to bork at them so they know I'm there. Foster mom is teaching me so many cool things all the time. I am crate trained and I LOOOVE belly rubs! I would do great with an active family that likes to go on hikes, adventures and give me lots of chewy toys and stimulate my growing mind! If you like to have a good time like me, have your people get with my people and let's get this pawty started!!! Story
I have had so many chances in my young life. Seriously...I was found with four siblings at about 2.5 weeks old, dumped in a box at the post office... we were so, so sick and close to death. My rescue mom really worked hard to get us healthy and LIVE. And we did! About 6 weeks later, we all got parvo..... and my rescuer was able to nurse all of us out of it! All my siblings have been adopted, and I am ready too! I am somewhat shy and will take time to settle into my new family. But I will adjust. I am best with another dog, calm and confident, because I will mirror that energy. As a gorgeous catahoula/whippet mix, I have plenty of energy and I love to play! Fetch and chase games are my favorite . I am adoptable in Texas, I need to meet my family and you need to meet me! Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX)

Meet Geo! This boy has two speeds... sleep and GO GO GO :) He is an energetic pup and he is a puppy and would be a great great family dog with several kids who will play with him for hours... and hours... and he will wear THEM out too :) Kids need to be older just because he is a BIG boy and plays HARD. Geo has to tell you a couple of things too.... "If you look at the picture of me walking MYSELF on the leash, you will see that I come pre-loaded and ready to hike it all over the place with you :) So, I am a BIG BIG puppy. The rescuers are sure I am a Catahoula mixes with Hound- If you look at my gorgeous markings and the sheer size of my HEAD you will see a truly GORGEOUS boy. And I am like a big teenager, kind of goofy, kind of awkward and kind of cute- with more FEET than head... I am learning all my "good boy" tricks too... SiT, COME and WAIT. I am pretty potty trained, except when I get distracted.... which happens with ADHD puppies. SNIFFING and FETCH are my FUN games. I can't WAIT until you adopt me, so HURRY!!! Oops... hurry and do what?? ADOPT ME!!!" Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $550 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Finnean is a good looking boy, that is easy to see. What is a little harder to see is his heart. He is a sensitive soul that loves ease and calm, oh yes, and treats! It might even be best to say- his heart is in his stomach. He doesn’t have expensive taste though, he is as happy with MilkBones as he is with grade A jerky. Take a look at him here https://youtu.be/i3gLRxV53C0 Just like his taste in treats, simple is perfect with him. No frills, no fancy. He loves routines and shines in structure and stability. If he was a person, the military would be recruiting him. Estimated to be 3 years old and weighing 55 lbs, lapdog was never in his cards so you wont have to worry about that. He will be close by but won’t insist on affection. He loves the quiet moments of connection, letting you know he is there without being imposing, happy with little head scratches and you calling him over for the companionship. When it comes to his canine companions, Finnean welcomes them. He loves to play with moderately playful dogs and is especially skilled at navigating the dynamics of group play. He greets and welcomes new dogs with ease and a calm approach. While he’s not one to initiate play right away, once he’s comfortable, he loves a good rough and tumble round of wrestling. A home with a yard and doggy friends who match his energy level would be ideal for him. Leash walking is a mixed bag for Finnean. He’s generally easy to walk but prefers quiet walks over busy sidewalks. A calm, attentive handler will help him continue to grow his confidence in these environments as needed. Not everyones life involves busy sidewalks and this isn’t the only way for him to be stimulated and get physical exercise. Indoors, we see moments where it is clear he is experiencing something new, those are teachable moments and may come up as he settles into a home.Guiding and teaching will strengthen your bond and watching him fully find his ease will be deeply gratifying. Finnean isn’t a fan of kennels and may get anxious if left contained for too long, though he is making improvements in this as his foster gently guides him to knowing crates are comfortable and safe spaces. We never can know what a rescue dog has faced in their past but we can absolutely promise them only the moving forward. Thanks to his foster dad’s guidance, crating has become a stress-free process, especially when it’s paired with his favorite thing—treats. Finnean’s ideal home would be one that understands his needs for patience, and time to get comfortable. The quiet, simple life with a little yard would be this boys heaven. While he’s not suited for a cat-friendly household (he was a bit terrified of the cat,) he has the potential to thrive in a home where his independent, food-loving, and playful spirit can truly shine. Are you Finneans someone? We sure hope so. Apply today! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/6740b688cd95d10ccf07024d Questions? Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. Story
Sweet Len came to me from Texas in 2020. At the time I lived in a house with a yard and planned to get another dog to keep him company. Life has changed drastically since then and now I'm in an apartment with just him. He's a VERY. social dog who loves to be around people and other pups. He's not happy in my apartment and I'm not able to leave him at home alone because he will bark and whine...I have one neighbor who keeps complaining to get me kicked out. I did not have this issue with him at my house where he had a window he could watch out when I left. He is the sweetest, best boy. I love him so much. He deserves to be with an active household with other dogs and outdoor space. He would love someone who works from home. He does not do well when left alone. He's not destructive but he will whine and howl. I tried crate training him in the beginning but he panicked a ton so I think he might have some bad experience with crates. He's awesome with kids and other dogs.
