Story
Meet Channing! This gorgeous girl is Channing. We think she is probably about 3 years old and is currently weighs about 55 lbs. Her markings are even more dramatic in person. She is always on the hunt for rabbits on our walking trails so has a pretty strong prey drive and probably needs a home with no cats. Channing has done well running alongside other dogs in our dog runs. Her DNA test revealed she is German Shepherd, Siberian Husky, Swiss Shepherd, Chow, and Malamute! This beautiful girl recently got to spend time in a foster home and this is what we learned about her: Channing has her potty training fundamentals down, is crate trained, and quickly picked up on other house rules like "no dogs in the kitchen." She is very smart and, with treats, is willing to learn anything you put in front of her. She is full of personality and will definitely make you laugh. Even when she's napping, she will make the silliest little grunts. Channing loves a good soft dog bed or blanket to lay on. She's also a snuggler and would love to cuddle with you. She'd thrive with a playful sibling. Channing loved learning how to walk down the balance beam, climb the tree stumps and has good basic recall skills that she'd love to keep practicing with her new family, along with her basic commands. (Check out her videos on our Dogs of Del Norte County Facebook page!) Come check out Channing and our other dogs available for adoption at 2650 Washington Blvd, Crescent City, CA 95531. Story
Meet Othos! He's a big, goofy guy that likes to have fun. Othos has liked all the people & dogs that he has met here. He also likes to play fetch and go for long walks. Othos weighs about 86 lbs, and is approximately 2 years old. He knows a few basic commands and passed his cat test, but proved to be a little too cat curious in a home environment. Othos also loved meeting kids, but will need to be supervised around smaller children because he IS big and likes to be as close as possible! Update on Othos! He was able to go into a home for several days so we could find out more about him. He is housebroken and enjoys riding in a vehicle. He can be protective of the car if someone gets too close. He is very strong and will also need a secure yard with nothing near the fence to be able to jump and get over to play with the neighbors dog uninvited. Othos is very strong and needs some additional work on leash manners. He loves to be loved and to chill with his people. He has been DNA tested, his results are on our Dogs of Del Norte County FB page. Othos also got a field trip to the beach. This was the report back…”he can easily load into the bed of a truck and travels well, was extremely happy to have the wind in his face. He enjoys human attention and allows you to pet and rub him throughout his body. Othos has zero problem with walking into the water and actually looked like he wanted to play in the surf. He likes to mark territory and wants to travel with his nose to the ground, control of the head will be key to good walks. Othos is strong and took quite a bit of redirecting to get him to walk along my side and after a while he started to settle in on his walk. He is laser focused on other dogs in public and will need a capable handler to redirect his attention to the task at hand. Only praise and petting were used for training purposes.” Come check out Othos and our other dogs available for adoption at 2650 Washington Blvd, Crescent City, CA 95531. Kennels are open Mon-Fri, 9AM-4PM, or by appointment. An adoption application will be required from those interested in providing a fab furever home to Othos. Story
Meet Wyatt! He's an adult German Shepherd type of guy. Wyatt is a little shy, at first, but can be quite talkative! He's treat-motivated, and pretty good on a leash. Wyatt weighs in just over 85lbs. He also enjoys a nice game of fetch, when he's feeling playful! His former owner raised him since he was a puppy, he was five years old when he came to the Pound under unfortunate circumstances. Wyatt was heartbroken his owner didn't come to get him, and cried for several months. Wyatt didn't want to make friends even though the volunteers and staff tried very hard to comfort him. After awhile, he seemed to realize his owner wasn't coming for him and started making friends with people and dogs. His favorite things are running alongside other dogs in the ball run, and can probably outrun all of them. Wyatt also has a lot of fun playing keep away with a ball when he's in the big corral! Come check out Wyatt and our other dogs available for adoption at 2650 Washington Blvd, Crescent City, CA 95531. Kennels are open Mon-Fri, 9AM-4PM, or by appointment. An adoption application will be required from those interested in providing a fab furever home to Wyatt. Please call us at (707) 464-7235 for additional information.
