Rocco is a friendly little guy who will make an excellent companion for some lucky human. He is 3.5 years old, 15 pounds, and eats a prescription hydrolyzed diet to keep his allergies in check. Rocco likes other small dogs his size and shares a foster home with three other friendly, playful dogs. He loves spending time with his humans and would make a fabulous office helper either going into the office or working from home. He enjoys car rides and dog walks. This little guy is more than content to nap by your desk. He just likes to be included.Rocco is a fantastic size because at just 15 pounds, he's easy to take with you. He's happy to tag along for your exciting adventures and even boring errands. This small 3 year old has recovered marvelously from a herniated disc. To protect his spine from future injury, Rocco shouldn't be climbing stairs or hopping on and off furniture by himself, so he's looking for an adopter with the ability to lift 15 to 20 pounds who can assist him. One of his favorite places to be is on a lap, and he asks to be picked up for snuggles every morning and evening! Rocco has been a champ overcoming two significant medical issues. He never complains and just accepts the love and various treatments or physical therapy. Rocco initially needed intensive treatment for untreated perianal fistulas that were badly infected because an allergy had gotten out of control. Thankfully he has responded well to antibiotics and a special diet so he won't likely require surgery as long as he keeps it up. He was just about ready for adoption when he suffered a blown disc in his lower back that partially paralyzed him. You can imagine our relief when he began to move his hind legs again and walk short distances after 9 weeks of crate rest. Now he is walking on his own and he no longer needs a wheelchair to move about his foster home or go on short walks! He's no longer taking any pain meds and the vet is really impressed by his recovery. Rocco is looking for a cautious adopter who will understand that he needs to take it easy going forward so he can keep a healthy back for the rest of his life. Using a ramp to get up and down from couches and beds is ideal instead of jumping down which could aggravate his back. A single-level home and/or an adopter with a strong back is best since this little guy shouldn't be climbing stairs. Thankfully he only weighs 15 pounds! This pooch will need to eat a prescription diet for life to ensure his perianal fistulas don't return, so his adopters should keep this in mind as well.
