Story
Prince is the sweetest boy ever! I’ve had him since 2010, when he was born. He would be perfect for a senior or home-based companion that can monitor him and let him outside frequently. He is exhibiting signs of cognitive issues but otherwise still great and a joy.

Story
Shotske came to us after his owner died with another dog. He is almost 11 years old and a long haired dachshund. Shotske is incredibly sweet, and really enjoys long strolls outside and treats. New situations and new people make him a bit nervous, but he’s still sweet and gentle, even when unsure - he will just retreat. When shotske arrived here, he was over 25lbs and experiencing some back leg/end paralysis which isn’t uncommon with aging dachshunds, especially if obese. He is now a healthy weight, runs and leaps, moderately active, and not on any medications. A new family will have to make sure his diet is strict, because he loves food and treats but needs to be normal sized to stay healthy. Shotske came to us with Pansy and can be adopted separately, but then would prefer another small dog his size that is in need of social connectedness, or to be the only dog in a home where he could be the center of attention. He is housebroken, and will go outside, but his previous owner used potty pads in the house, so if you don’t make him go outside, he won’t. He requires regular grooming and absolutely NO cats.

Story
Hi, I’m Manny! I’m about 4 years old, I’m house and crate trained, I know how to sit, and I’ll be your best friend. However, I have some criteria that I need from you. I take a minute to warm up to new people, and I don’t particularly appreciate too much love. I will ask for pets when I want them, but don’t get carried away. My favorite thing? Foot pets!!! Let me rub my body on your feet and I’m in heaven! Another thing I love is food. Big food guy! Dogs? I’m good with dogs! I have two foster siblings and I’m super respectful about their space. My foster family says I’m the most perfect dog and all I truly need is someone who will respect my space. I get so excited when my people get home from work. I may bark at new guests, but if they just ignore me, I’ll ignore them. I walk pretty well on a leash, though I like to lead the way! No kids for me please! They move too fast and scare me. If you’re interested in seeing if we are a match, fill out the adoption application!

Story
Baxter first came to Chihuahua Rescue 5 years ago when he was almost one year old. He was surrendered back to the Rescue along with Matilda, who is called Tilly. They were surrendered to Chihuahua Rescue after their owner developed serious health issues and was no longer able to care for them. Potty training was not enforced in Baxter's previous household, so we re-emphasized that skill. He made good progress and is pretty reliable, especially since we got his urinary tract infection treated. He's also crate trained now. At first we thought Baxter and Tilly were bonded and would have to be adopted together. Now, although they still like each other a lot, we believe that they can be adopted separately. Baxter was very overweight upon his return, so with the efforts outlined below we got him back to a healthy weight. Feeding a measured amount of weight-loss food, limiting treats, no human food and getting good exercise in the yard has done the trick; he is at his goal weight! Baxter does have a tendency to bolt out the door if given the chance, so potential adopters should have a securely fenced yard or be diligent about putting on his harness and leash before opening the door.. Baxter has settled in well into his foster's household. His shots are back up to date and he is heartworm negative and back on preventive. Baxter has a very loud bark and uses it to indicate his desires or notify the household of approaching strangers, so he would not be ideal in a shared-wall situation. Baxter is particularly not a fan of big dogs. 10/31/22 CG, updated 11/18/22, 1/11/23, 2/16/23, 4/10/23, 7/30/24, 8/14/24
