Story
Meet Lucky and Sassy bonded pair They are being fostered in East Tn. Out of state welcome and transport to your area to the north east and great lakes areas is included in their adoption fee. We use rescue riders for all of our pet transport needs because they have always been great with our pets. These two little ladies are a bonded pair and are twins. Lucky is the darker brindle of the two and Sassy is a bit lighter. They are absolutely sweet little doll babies. They love to sit on your lap and give love and kisses. They are house trained and pad trained as well as crate trained if needed. They are about 5.5 years old and fairly active but laid back just as much. They love chewing nylabone power chewers or any nylabone type hard chews. They only weigh around 9 lbs each so no lap is too small to share lol They tolerate cats ok but we think they would do best in a home with older children that can respect space and not chase or scare them. Ideally a home with a laid back lifestyle that loves to cuddle without too much stress would be great for them. The adoption fee is for them as a pair we will not separated them. Please apply for them at petpath.org

Story
Beauregard is a spunky little old man! He’s got two speeds—power walk and napping— and he’s perfected the art of stealing anything soft the moment you stand up (pillows, blankets… dignity? Possibly). His foster family caught him luxuriously sprawled in a laundry basket of clean sheets the other day, looking like royalty. He is so active, alert, and speedy that we still can't believe he's 17 years young. Beauregard LOVES belly rubs and cuddling, though he's also happy to snooze in his bed. He gets chilly easily and like most of us needs to wear a cozy sweater or jacket when it's colder in the house or outside. He recently had his social media manager stage a photo shoot for him in his new hoodie because he was feelin' fly. His ideal furever family will love curating a snug wardrobe for him. Beauregard's social skills are top notch and he is a true master of negotiation — he even sweet-talked his hound foster brother into sharing his bed. He loves meeting all the people, children, and dogs he can possibly meet. He is always excited to go on a walk and is a gentleman on the leash. He is great at navigating outdoor steps but needs his human to help him navigate those slippery indoor hardwood stairs. Fostered in Winchester, VA Please apply to adopt at MirisHaven.org

Story
Meet Harlow! The best word to describe her is “FUN”! Think of her like a fun sized Snickers, all the Snickers flavor in a portable package. This girl is spayed, vaccinated, current on preventative meds and ready to adopt. She is around 1 yr old and 15or so lbs. Currently fostering in town in Warrenton, Virginia. She would be an ideal dog for an active person/ couple/ family that lives in a smaller home. She will thrive on daily walks or runs and would be a fantastic pace setter for some 5k races. She travels well so long weekend trips and hikes would definitely be fun, she is brave and confidant in new surroundings so definitely a full time partner in crime type. She crates well and has been good with her potty manners with frequent trips out to the yard. She is a naturally neat type so we don’t expect her to be a problem to become fully housebroken. She is currently fostering in a home with 2 young kids and is doing fantastic, she is also respectful of the older grumpy dog and playful with the larger young dog. While she could go into a multi dog home we feel she would thrive best in a home where she was the center of attention. She adores her humans and wants to be with them all the time, but will crate quietly if needed. As an added bonus she tested fantastic with the cat so should be fine in a home with a cat or two. Story
Meet Callie! This little cutie has been in our care most of her life. She was born with excess fluid or “water on the brain” that caused blindness and was given to a family who was not equipped to care for her. They grew frustrated with her and didn't understand her behaviors or take her to the vet for further diagnosis. Callie was more subdued than most puppies and showed some early neurological signs, like circling, and had significantly limited vision, consistent with a condition called hydrocephalus. We took her to a neurologist and she was started on a medication that helps control symptoms of the condition and it has worked incredibly well. The mild neurological signs have abated and she's had no seizures on the meds and lives a mostly normal life. We can’t change the fact that she’s blind, but otherwise, she is symptom-free. Dogs with mild or moderate cases like Callie can live a healthy, happy full life. Callie has matured to be a self-sufficient, confident, loving pup, and while she can’t see, that’s all she’s ever known so she rolls with it.  Callie has adapted quickly to home life. She’s a smart, sweet dog who makes a wonderful companion She’s being fostered by Leah and Chris and has been living with their pack of 3 pups, both large and small. Callie has been good with every pup we’ve introduced her to and finds comfort in her dog business.  Our preference is for her to have a dog buddy in her new home, and she'll do best in a calmer neighborhood with each access in and out of the home. She can do small steps in and out of the home and is most comfortable with a yard or consistent potty area to explore. The only time we've seen her be hesitant is outside in loud or busy areas...so she's not an ideal city dog.  We checked in with her foster mom, Leah, for a quick update.  “Callie is very confident once she gets her bearings straight. She learned the layout of our home pretty quickly. She will explore to learn where everything is - especially the kitchen! The only times I've seen her be hesitant is when she is outdoors in a new spot for the first time - all of the smells and noises can be a little intimidating. As with most blind dogs, her other senses are very strong.  She can smell peanut butter in another room! She integrated into our home very quickly. She found the toys - she likes tuggy ones, Nylabones, and the stuffed toys that make the crinkle sounds - but her absolute favorite toys were my slippers. They had little pouf balls on them and she enjoyed ripping the balls off (which was totally okay they were cheapies off Amazon). She may have a foot fetish... hehe. She tries to play with my dogs but mine are Mean Golden Girls so not much luck there..She’s a very playful, fun dog and would have loved a canine playmate in her new home.  She’s also very snuggly and likes to cuddle on the couch with you and gives lots of kisses. We taught her to "walk" on a leash outside the home, but she needs treats to make her move along. She loves to explore the backyard which is familiar terrain. She’s really good about peeing outside and now she’s pooping outside too. She learned to go up steps quickly and we have trained to use our 4 front steps into the house and then the doggie steps to the couch. I think she can see some shadows. Honestly, you sometimes forget she's blind because she doesn't act all that impaired. She is a really happy-go-lucky dog with lots of energy and love to give. We need someone special to take this sweet little nugget. She's one smart cookie" Apply today to learn more! Story
Meet Toby! This sweet boy’s journey began when his family surrendered him to a rural county shelter in poor condition. He needed more TLC than the shelter could give. Toby came to us with a double ear infection, an eye infection, and a secondary skin infection caused by scratching — conditions that could have been easily addressed with basic veterinary care. We also discovered that Toby likely has idiopathic epilepsy, which is typically genetic without an identifiable cause, but fortunately for him is also highly treatable. He has no structural or other neurological abnormalities and is a healthy dog who takes daily meds to keep seizures at bay. Toby has not had a seizure while on meds and lives a completely normal, full life.   Toby has made an incredible transformation over the past 6 weeks, now thriving as the sassy, confident little pup he was always meant to be. He is currently being fostered in a home with a mom, a teen son, two other dogs, and a cat. He had an easy introduction to his new pack and gets along well with the other dogs, while mostly ignoring the cat. Occasionally, Toby will bark at the other pets to get their attention or coax them into playtime. Now that he’s feeling better, he genuinely seems to enjoy playing and interacting with the other dogs.   Inside the home, Toby has a moderate energy level. He’s crate-trained and will often choose to nap in his crate when the door is left open. He’s doing well with potty training but benefits from regular and consistent potty breaks. While Toby willingly goes outside when encouraged by his foster mom, he hasn’t yet learned how to alert someone when he needs to go out—so being proactive is key.   We checked in with his foster mom for an update:   “Toby is generally a very good boy and the sweetest little guy. He’s a lover, not a fighter. He’s pretty chill and loving, and he seems relatively confident and comfortable with people. He enjoys having the other dogs around but would probably do well with or without a dog buddy in his home. He’s curious about my cat but doesn’t chase her. He’ll walk up and try to sniff her, which usually ends with a hiss, so he just walks away. He’s completely fine with cats in the house.   Inside, he’s mostly low-energy until he gets random bursts of playfulness. He’ll gallop around the house, play a good game of tug with me, have a snack, and then head back to his cozy bed for a nap. He’s still working on his leash skills—he’d rather sniff than walk—and with the cold weather we’ve had, he’s not a fan. He goes out for potty and wants to come right back in. He’s an excellent snuggler! When I put him on my lap (like right now as I’m typing), he stays and loves the cuddle time. At night, if I’m watching TV, I’ll put him with me, and he falls fast asleep. That’s how he got his nickname, 'Toby Burrito,' when I wrap him in a blanket.   I think he’d be a good family pup, but maybe for kids over 7 years old. Little kids might want to pick him up, which he’s not totally comfortable with—he just gets tense, not nippy. I think he’s best matched with a more laid-back home environment.”   ******   We think Toby could be a mix of a Chihuahua and Pug with his curly tail. We know he’s adorable and loves to snuggle. He’s adaptable and will be fine as an only dog or with a buddy. Cats are fine too!   Apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE: Chihuahua/Pug Mix GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  17 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 2 years old COAT TYPE:  short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION: Arlington, VA     FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Jelly Bean! This adorable 7-pound nugget was abandoned in a mobile home park by her owners who moved away and left her behind to fend for herself. Thankfully, compassionate neighbors stepped in to feed her but grew concerned as winter temperatures began to drop and she did not have proper shelter. They reached out to rescue for help, and Jelly Bean is now on the path to finding the loving forever home she deserves. When she arrived, Jelly Bean was covered in fleas and needed a good bath, but she was otherwise in good shape. She quickly proved herself to be a very sweet little pup and has settled nicely into her local foster home. She is being fostered with a mom, dad, and two dogs. She’s been respectful of the other dogs but needs a little time to build rapport. This gentle girl would do best paired with pups that share her laidback energy, making her a wonderful companion for a calm pack. We checked in with her foster mom, Kristin for a quick update: “Jelly Bean is an incredibly sweet Chihuahua who has quickly made herself at home. She adores her foster dad, Donnie, and has been competing with Tessa for prime lap space during TV time. At night, she loves burrowing under the blankets in bed, where she sleeps peacefully all night. Blankets are her favorite—she even does this ridiculously cute thing where she pulls one down and falls asleep chewing on it. I’ll try to get a video. Jelly Bean is mostly potty trained but doesn’t signal when she needs to go outside, so regular potty breaks help prevent accidents. She’s not particularly vocal; she’ll bark when the other dogs do but doesn’t initiate barking on her own. I haven’t tried the crate yet but she has been fine when left alone in the bedroom for a few hours. I plan to introduce her to a crate in the living room where she can see the other dogs. She’s been getting along fine with my other dogs, though she hasn’t had much interaction with them yet. Jelly Bean loves toys and keeps herself entertained playing with them. We had a friend visit yesterday. Jelly Bean growled at first but warmed up quickly and was perfectly fine.  She’s really a very sweet pup who is going to bring so much joy to her future family.”   FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 2 WEEKS “JB is doing great. She's coming out of her shell more each day and is an absolute cuddle bug. She loves to sit next to you on the couch or in bed and snuggle. She's a blanket maniac....actually a "fuzzy thing" maniac. She loves her blankie and carries it with her, dragging it out from her crate around the house whenever possible. She is also a fan of fuzzy shoes. She doesn't do anything to them. She just likes to drag them into her crate when no one is around. If we go out, even for a minute, we come back to find either my fuzzy boots or dad's slippers (or both) safely tucked into the crate next to her. Oh..and she loves her crate. We don't close the crate when we go to work but she still likes to stay inside snuggled up with a pile of blankets. She's been really good when left alone with our other two dogs. No issues. She's not a big fan of dog play but she loves to play "crazy dog" with her people. Basically, she runs at you, then flips over on her belly or runs around in circles so you can hand wrestle with her and give her belly scratches. It's her favorite thing.  A couple of times she's tried to engage on of the older dogs in a little play but didn't happen. She like toys. She'll pick up a toy, swing it around, set it down, and do it again...but mostly she just likes to carry her blanket around.  JB is a full-on top-level home security system. If a person, dog, or squirrel gets too close to her house, she will let everyone know.  She also has a bit of a singing voice and will let out a howl at sirens or when her foster dad eggs her on. She is pretty much housebroken although she has to be encouraged to go outside on cold days. On nice days she loves to explore in the yard and chase the squirrels. She does ok on the leash but she gets cold quickly.  She's been a joy to have in the house and anyone that has a bit of energy to play with this young pup but also likes to snuggle will love this little girl.” ******* Apply today to learn more!    BREED ESTIMATE: Chihuahua  GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  7 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~  4.5 years old COAT TYPE: Short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION:  Alexandria, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application.
