Story
Meet Calypso!Calypso is a stunning almost 4-year-old, 40-pound sweetheart with a smile that will brighten anyone’s day. She absolutely adores people and makes fast friends with other dogs, though she prefers to have her meals solo. This smart and loving girl is eager to find her forever family, where she can share her charm and warm personality. Whether it’s cuddling on the couch or making new doggie friends, Calypso is ready to make every day with her new family extra special.Could Calypso be the perfect addition to your home? She can’t wait to meet you!IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.January 14, 2025, 6:04 am

Story
Meet Ella, a lovable Chow mix with a vibrant personality. This goofball is full of energy and always ready for a game of fetch or a walk in the park. Though she's an adult dog, her spirit is as lively as a puppy's. Ella is more than just a pet; she's a companion and a friend, waiting to share her love with the right person. Adopt Ella and let her brighten your life! Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their size in a group setting, and dog meet-and-greets with the adopter's dog(s) are always encouraged. A cat test may be conducted at the adopter's request but should only be used as a general-purpose screening to rule out overt aggression. We always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendations on the suitability of placement with children by age are based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavioral observations in the shelter environment should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at a given point in time and may not be indicative of a dog's overall mental health. The Joplin Humane Society believes all adopters need to be prepared to invest time and energy into working with their new dog, as animals arrive at the shelter from a variety of situations and scenarios and may have had little to no prior training. Dogs should never be fed together unless it is known that they do not possess resource-guarding tendencies. We always encourage adopters to research the breeds or mixes of breeds before adoption as many can have unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Keep in mind that the transition from the shelter to a home environment is stressful for dogs, and the Rule of 3 should be used as a rule of thumb when introducing a dog to their new surroundings. For the first 3 days, fear, anxiety, and stress levels are at their highest; and dogs may appear lethargic, remain hidden, are easily excitable, or have a loss of appetite. In the next 3 weeks, dogs will be actively developing a routine, and new personality traits may appear as stress levels decrease. During this period, it is recommended that adopters limit the dog's exposure to new people and places as they adjust and keep them in a crate or designated quiet room when left alone. Time outside of the home should be short, and crowds or loud noise should be avoided. After 3 months, a bond has developed between the dogs and their new family, and the animal should appear more comfortable in unfamiliar situations. Story
*hair blowing in the wind (even though she's indoors)* *unexplained sparkles in the air* *faint heavenly music* Yes, she is me. Chloe. Now that you are blinded by my beauty, let me explain why I am the absolute best girl on the inside too and so deserving of your (and everyone's) undivided adoration. I'm loyal, smart as a whip, and FUN, just to name a few. Unfortunately, I didn't come from the most glamorous beginnings. I was an outdoor doggy with not much interaction from birth and my family also left me behind when they moved. Thus, I wasn't really brought up interacting with you humans or being touched/handled. I've had my quirks while adjusting to being a family dog and will definitely need someone patient and understanding with me. (If you get too touchy right away, I don't like that and will try to protect myself.) However, if you are slow and gain my trust I will HANG on your every move. I have adjusted very quickly in the past with proper introductions to people. Even still, I would probably do best in a home without young children. I'm a lady after all and need time to sniff you out before you get grabby. I am an active girl and love to feel the wind in my hair outdoors too. I run with the speed of light and have a prey drive to sniff out bugs, lizards and more. I also love to play tug of war and fetch with my foster mommy inside. I bounce, bounce, bounce all the time! I am great on leash so walks and hikes would be great for me. Getting my energy out will help me focus on training too. I am very smart and learn quickly, but tend to lose interest if I'm still chock full of go, go, go!! With all of this perfection, all of your pet needs should be fulfilled, right? RIGHT? I hope so because I would do great as an only pet in the home. I have been able to co-exist with dogs at the rescue but I am a bit of a diva in my foster home. I have a domineering personality sometimes and will even mark like a male when I come across another dog's scent in my house. How dare they??? Existing? HERE? (She is otherwise house trained.) Considering that you and I know each other a little better now, you may pet me. Yes, I am very soft, I know. Please keep in mind that I am a Chow/shepherd mix and have hair that will require brushing, maybe even the occasional spa treatment, Swedish massage, 24k gold facials...yeahhhhhhhhhh.... Sorry! I forgot you were here. In all seriousness, once I trust you, I will allow you to brush me out without much fuss. It doesn't need to be daily but I am a rough and tumble kinda gal and can use help keeping my locks flowing and free. I also shed so if I seem to be losing my girlish figure, it's probably just extra hair that needs to be brushed off. I hope you have a strong vacuum. ;) I could go on for days about myself, but I'll stop here. Don't wanna overwhelm you. If you think you are up for the challenge of a total spitfire like me, please feel free to send in an application and foster mommy can tell you more about all of the grandeur that is...CHLOE.
