Story
*Dog Name: Ellie Rose
*Breed: Spaniel, American Cocker/Mix
*Sex: F
*Age: 1 (Birthdate 3/24/24)
*Weight: 21 lbs
*Medical Needs: None
*Housebroken: Yes
*Crate trained: Yes. She goes in pretty easy, for a treat. She will bark when you first put her in there or when she knows you’re home. She spends work hours and nights, in her crate.
*Good in the car: Yes, but you’ll need to restrain her with a crate or seat belt harness. At the very least - hang onto that leash!
*Good on a leash: No. She not the let’s-take-a-leisurely-stroll type of girl. She will pull you wherever she wants to go. I mean, she’s walkable….it’s just not very fun or relaxing for the person holding the leash.
*Energy level: High
*Need a fenced in yard: No, but it would make your life WAY easier. With that said, the fence needs to be solid enough that she cannot escape. She is also a digger in soft soils.
*Dog Friendly: Yes
*If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No
*Cat Friendly: No. Not that I think she’d kill it, but she’ll never stop chasing or barking at it. My VERY dog savvy cat knows how to stay clear of her She IS NOT good with any small animals. Those she would probably eat.
*Kid Friendly: Yes, but she will jump on them.
*If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Around 8 and up, because of the jumping, unless your kid likes a dog all over them.
*Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about: Ellie Rose is adorable and as soft as can be! She’s a toddler who only needs you for food, to go potty, or when she’s scared… toads are scary She’s great in the house, with no distractions. She will sit on the couch with you, or lie on the floor at your feet, and chew on a Nylabone. She loves to know you’re there She’s never had an accident in the house or crate. She loves to carry around stuffed toys, but they’re not a good choice for her. She will chew parts of them off and swallow them. In fact, she likes to eat lots of things she shouldn’t…like cat poop, bugs, and lost gum balls Ellie is slightly anxious. She will pace, get up and down and survey the room, and hyper-fixate on various things. She knows her name, what “no” and “sit” means, and goes in the crate for a treat. You can always count on Ellie to let you know that someone has arrived. Outside on walks, she’s terrible! She pulls HARD, and just go, go, goes. She is not very responsive to her handler. At first I thought she couldn’t hear, but nope! She has very selective hearing when outside and/or when fixated on something inside. The only time she thinks she needs you outside is if she gets scared by something. She is learning and needs continued training. Getting down to her level seems to help her focus more on what I’m asking of her. Part of this is her breed, but I have the feeling that she was just allowed to do whatever she wanted and was never properly trained. For her to be the bestest dog ever, she needs someone that’s willing to be consistent and spend some time on her. Could that be you
