You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. Are you looking for a gentle, quiet, calm, funny, cuddly puppy? Megan-Mallory is a Precious Puppy! She is about 9 months old and very clever. She has great focus and is easy to teach new skills. She is potty, leash, and crate-trained. She loves her chews and toys, is inquisitive and loves to explore. Her favorite things are breakfast and squirrels. She can quietly watch the squirrels for hours. Megan is still learning to Fetch but has all the best house manners already. She likes gentle children and other dogs (not cat tested, but should be fine). She likes riding in the car, sitting on laps, and is great with baths and nail trims. If you want to play, she is ready. Megan has a short, sleek coat which is easy to brush and dry. She is shiny, smooth and sleek like a little seal. She is amazingly quiet, yet is capable of a Big Bark when needed. Foster mom guesses that Megan is a black-and-tan Coonhound mixed with some type of herding dog. But a quiet Coonhound. Which is almost unknown . Megan has a goofy smile that lights up the room! She is the sweetest girl. Like any of our dogs, this sweetheart would make a great addition to an active home that will provide love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation.  Because of that, Megan's ideal owner will have prior experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember  that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.   Megan's adoption fee is $375, all of which goes back into offsetting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.August 15, 2024, 8:18 pm

Story
Rusty was adopted as a puppy from a local shelter. He is a great dog! Sweet and fun loving! We are rehoming him because we are moving out of the country and he would not do well in an apartment or on a15 hours flight. Needs a fenced yard or lots of room to run! Likes to counter surf and steaks tissues. Gets along great with other dogs of any size! Has no behavior issues. Never been around a cat. Truly a loving and wonderful dog! 2.5 years old.

Story
Meet your perfect match: Quimby, a 3-year-old Coonhound mix (b. May 2021).  He loves staying at home and enjoys the calmer things in life.  He's all about relaxing, snacking, and learning new tricks. His perfect day is curling up next to you on the couch and having a treat or two (or three... or as many as you'll give him... he loves treats!) He is food motivated and enjoys hunting for tiny pieces of food in the house or back yard. Quimby enjoys training sessions and knows a few commands: sit, stay, spin, shake. Quimby is currently seeking: House (his hound sounds are too much for an apt/condo) Grass to roll in Couch to snuggle on Ideally, no crate as he really dislikes going in his kennel More grass to roll in  Lots of fresh water options--so happy with a fresh bowl! Long walks at sunset Snackies to share with his humans--takes treats so gently! Quimby is potty trained, leash trained and needs a home with a fenced yard.  He can be a little nervous around loud noises, new people, and other animals so he is looking for a home without other pets or young children (age 13+ okay).  His ThunderShirt almost always succeeds in calming him down. We think Quimby could be your new best friend, apply to adopt him today! The suggested adoption donation for  is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals.  In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $390,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Adoptions for Quimby are limited to the area within 50 miles of Omaha so that he can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainers. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.  Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.  To learn about Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue Inc. ##1106335##

Story
Meet Rusty, the bundle of love and energy looking for his forever home! Rusty, a charming 2.5-year-old Coonhound, is ready to wiggle his way into your heart. This handsome boy is neutered and housebroken, with a knack for fetching and giving kisses that will brighten anyone's day. Rusty adores children and is especially friendly with those over 6 years old who can keep up with his playful spirit. Although Rusty can be a bit shy around new faces, once he warms up, he's a total lap dog who loves snuggles and affection. He's a pro at fetch and tug-of-war, and he'll happily entertain himself with chew toys in a fenced yard where he can stretch his legs. Rusty gets along famously with other dogs, both big and small, and would thrive in a home with a furry friend to romp around with. While he's still mastering his recall skills, Rusty's eagerness to learn and his affectionate nature make him a perfect canidate for a nurturing home. He is a champ at sleeping through the night in his cozy dog bed. If you're an active family looking for a companion to join in your adventures, Rusty might just be the perfect match! His love for playtime and his endearing personality will bring joy to your home every day. So, are you ready to open your heart and home to Rusty?
