Story
Spirit is about 14yrs old and about 13 lbs. This sweet girl came to LWHA after being a shelter stray. When Spirit first began being fostered with long way home, she was EXTREMELY fearful and nervous. She didn't like moving from her bed or tiny space either. It took a lot of patience and a lot of love from her initial foster mom to even get spirit to let anyone pet her. She is now doing SO SO SO much better! We are so proud of the strides she has taken in just a short couple of weeks.Spirit now enjoys gentle pets, loves going on walks, LOVES running in the backyard, playing with toys, and will follow you around the house. She does AMAZING in a kennel, is potty trained, and does well on a leash.Spirit does have some major scoliosis, but she is on pain meds that help manage this. She is also losing her vision due to some cataracts, but she can still see you! Other than this, Spirit is in great health! This sweet girl needs a home filled with patience, love, and understanding. Spirit would make a great companion. She just needs someone who will start slow and steady with her, but most importantly give her a chance! To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.

Story
Stillwell was found by local animal control as a stray. He is approximately 10 years old and about 10 pounds. He is a pretty mellow man who just wants a roof over his head and a warm bed to sleep in. He is good with other dogs and with children. If you are looking for a low energy, easy going guy, he is your man!To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Story
Ruthie girl has had a rough life and she is going to need a home that understands that. She is only 8lbs and has a hard time trusting smaller dogs. She has pieces missing from her ears and has a corneal abruption in her eye which will require removal of it once she is safe to undergo anesthesia. She is also high heartworm positive, and needs to be spayed and have mammary tumors removed. She seems to do fine with bigger dogs and is sweet as pie with people, but she does go after dogs around her size or smaller. Any potential adopter will need to be well-versed in dog behavior and just dachshund behavior in general. She doesn't like to be alone and she craves affection so she would do great in a home where her person is around. She does well with children so far, but she could potentially be unpredictable around them given her traumatic past. An adopter local to the Bryan/College Station area who could bring her to our veterinarian would be most ideal as she cannot be formally adopted until she is spayed which has the potential to be a couple of months from now.To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Story
Meet Dexter Morgan, a distinguished 12-year-old, 22-pound wire-haired Dachshund who was rescued just in time from another shelter. Now, this charming gentleman is ready to find his perfect forever home. Don’t let his age fool you—Dexter is full of spunk and energy! He loves playing in the yard with his favorite toy and brings a big personality wherever he goes. Dexter does tend to resource guard his possessions, including his favorite human and toy. Due to this behavior, he would do best in a single-dog, adult only home with just one owner, where he can feel secure and relaxed. While Dexter isn’t comfortable around kids or other dogs, he makes up for it with his loyal, playful, and loving nature. He’s looking for a special person who will appreciate his quirks and provide him with the care and attention he deserves in his golden years. If you’re seeking a fun, devoted companion to share your life with, Dexter could be your perfect match! Adoption fee is: $300 ALL adoptions require a completed application, vet check, home check and final contract. The application to adopt can be found at www.camorescue.com. Adoption fees are variable. Up to date vaccines, microchip, spay/neuter are included in the fee. Once your application has been approved, we will put you in touch with a CAMO representative to set up a meet and greet. We select the best applicant for each dog, based on the dog's needs. For the safety of our small breed dogs and based on our past experiences, we will not place our dogs in homes with large breed dogs. EIN # 46-5486022

Story
Echo is an adorable dog and very lovable. He is sweet-natured and energetic. Only barks appropriately as an alert. He gets along well with other dogs once he is introduced, and is very playful. He likes to sit in laps and has lots of personality. He is house trained and uses a doggy door well. He is about a year old, and full grown at around 12 pounds. His only issues are that he chases our poor cat. He also loves to chew, but has gotten better about keeping his chewing the right things. I think he can be trained to be a wonderful pet, but we do not have the time or skills to do it. He is healthy, neutered, and has all his shots. He has been on regular heart, flee and tick medicine.
