Story
Meet Mater, a 2-year-old dachshund with a heart of gold. His story is one of resilience and hope. Mater was adopted as a puppy in January 2023, but his life took an unexpected turn when he was returned to us in June due to no fault of his own. He was scared, unsure, and faced new people and walls daily. Despite this, we showered him with unconditional love until he was adopted again a month later. However, Mater's second adoption was short-lived. He struggled to connect with the adopter's spouse and stood his ground against their 60lb resident dog, showing a fierce determination. Unfortunately, this led to his return to us once more. Now, Mater thrives in his foster home, but his experiences have left emotional scars. We believe his behavior stems from the unknown, stress, worry, and fear. He's been passed around, and his sense of security has been shaken. To ensure Mater's happiness, we recommend an adoption as an only dog or with experienced pet owners with no children. If you're willing to take a chance on this sweet boy, please fill out the application below. Mater deserves a loving home where he can feel safe, loved, and cherished. Let's give Mater the second chance he deserves.

Story
Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying.  Thank you for your cooperation. NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 8/16/2024:  Karl - male - approx 6-8 years old - 5.0 pounds - Dachshund Reason for intake:  This sweet boy!  We were contacted by animal control about this little boy in dire need of help.  He was found in the middle of nowhere with multiple wounds covering his tiny, fragile body.  The cause of the wounds is unknown... could be some type of chemical burn, or predatory wounds... or environmental wherever he was living...  we're not sure.  All we know is that right now he's in caring hands with us and we will get everything taken care of for him.  His gums are white so he is anemic... his teeth have a lot of decay... his nails were overgrown and criss crossing over each other, he has goopy eyes from infection, ear mites and yeasty ears, etc.   There are a lot of things going on with him but one thing that he is showing us is that he has enough strength to wag his entire body when we approach (see video:  https://www.facebook.com/share/r/cBPUwg3tS1okJm5V/ ).  He's heading to our vet on Monday, August 19th to get everything his little self needs to be on the road to recovery!  If you'd like to donate to his care... click on the donate button attached to his Facebook post. NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS:  Many dogs, particularly breeder, hoarder or senior dogs, can have multiple medical issues that need addressed.  Additionally, sometimes we take in young puppies requiring multiple vaccinations and/or quarantining.   In this particular case, we are not yet taking applications either due to age or possible illness or some other reason.  We will post when s(he) is ready for adoption.  In the interest of fairness, EARLY application submissions will NOT be considered.  Please note…  we cannot respond to messages/emails, etc., on dogs that are NOT yet available for adoption.  Please wait until the dog is available for adoption.  We will post him or her on Facebook in our Adoptable Dog Album pinned to the top of our page which you can follow at this link:  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.416768288349589&type=3 OR you can keep checking our website at www.roadtorescuela.org.  We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”  ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~  Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life.  Blessings.
