Story
Abby is a 7 month old feisty girl who is confident, outgoing, fun and full of joy, plus resilient! Abby was found on the side of a very busy road with a funny walk. The vet thinks she may have fell or was thrown from a vehicle. Even after the hurt she was ready to show love and gratefulness to the sweet family that picked her up. She went to the vet, and they said she had a small fracture that required crate rest for a bit and so she did just that. After lots of kennel rest Abby is ready for her next fun adventure and to make up for lost time. Abby is great with other dogs of all sizes. Her foster family has five other dogs that are mixed breeds and vary in size, and Abby is friends with all of them. She even does well with cats. Doesn’t even blink an eye around them. Shes started doggie daycare with her foster siblings and got great reviews from the daycare. She was shy at first but quickly warmed up to all of the dogs and staff. Since Abby was on crate rest when she was rescued she is learning potty training with her foster family and she is quickly understanding how to tell her foster mom she has to go outside. Food is Abby’s best friend and she loves getting a good girl treat after she goes potty outside. She loves celery, carrots, broccoli and lots of dog friendly fruits. Per Abby’s DNA test, she is Labrador retriever, German Shepherd, and Doberman. We’d be happy to share more of her DNA results with her perfect forever family. She is located in San Antonio, TX, but transport is included with her adoption fee. All out of state adoptions with transports gets a health certificate before leaving and all of pets are fully vetted to age, fixed, chipped and have rabies vaccine. If you are interested in Abby, please completed the adoption application!

Meet Jack Brown He's about 4 years old, and though he can take a minute to warm up to new folks (me too, Jack, me too), once he befriends you, he's extremely playful and fun to be around. Generally good with dogs, seems to prefer to avoid cats, Jack will be a faithful companion on the couch.

Story
Rooster is located in TEXAS. There are not enough homes for all the unwanted dogs down there, so he is willing to relocate for a good, loving, forever home. This handsome boy was found as a stray running out in the country. He is approximately 7 months old and weighs 45 pounds. He will probably weigh in the 60-pound range when fully grown. We are not sure of his breed mixture but think he may have some lab and Doberman in him. Rooster has a great personality and disposition. He loves all of the other rescue dogs, big and small. He loves people and will lie at your feet whenever he can. He loves water and the garden fountain is his favorite spot to hang out and keep cool. Rooster is a very sweet and goofy puppy. He is pretty much house-trained and runs to go outside with his buddies. He will need some leash training and would probably do better with a harness. We have no idea of how he is with cats. Rooster loves to run and play with his dog friends and toys. He may not be suitable for a home with small children because he may knock them over when running and playing. Rooster needs a fully fenced-in and secure yard. He will be a great dog for hiking or going to the dog park. He is an active boy and will run around the yard with a toy in his mouth playing tag with his buddies. He likes to be the leader and have everyone chase him. Rooster would do well either as an only dog or with other dogs. Rooster is a healthy and happy boy. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, (DAPP, Bordatella, rabies, canine influenza), and microchipped. He is receiving monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Roosters' adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport by a reputable and trusted transport company to Brattleboro or White River Junction VT. Rooster resides with our friends at Shaggy Dog Rescue and cannot be transported until after he is adopted. Please email kathy@houstonshaggydogrescue.org if you are interested in adopting this good boy. You may also find them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/houstonshaggydogrescue

Story
*Due to state laws regarding out of state adoptions, we cannot adopt to families in Massachusetts or Rhode Island.* Bambi is a sweet 1 year old mix who loves to go on walks and is hoping for a family that will give him lots of belly rubs.  Listed breed is an educated guess made by our veterinarian and is NOT a guarantee - this also means we have no way of knowing what a puppy's adult size will be. This dog is currently being fostered in Mississippi and will be transported via Barton's Barkers transport services upon adoption. Their adoption fee is $500 and includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, a nose to tail vet check, microchip and transport costs. Second Chances lists dogs as being available in White River Junction, VT because we transport our dogs to the area every 3rd week after they have been adopted. All of our local shelters have a high euthanasia rate due to overpopulation so we created our rescue group to primarily adopt to the northern states to help keep as many dogs as we can from entering our kill shelters.   ##2071710##

Story
Carter is one special character - he is a red Doberman with a docked tail, floppy ears and medium build (healthy weight 60-65 lbs). Carter loves playing; rough housing, tossing toys, running and bouncing around. His 'special' character is his complete lack of maturity. Poorly socialized, but we also suspect, Carter was dropped on his head as a puppy or maybe fetal alcohol syndrome, his goofy face shows some developmental signs (eyes are too far apart) but otherwise, he's just HAPPY and DUMB. He is dog friendly, will let other males dominate him or push him down. He can be nippy due to his constant state of puppy - not mean, other dogs correct him. His foster has been working on his nippy, teethy grab for treats and awareness of hands. He needs a yard to run and downtime inside in a kennel with his stuffies at naptime. Due to Carter's low IQ - we recommend a home with older teens so no one gets mad that he takes fingers with treats when overstimulated. Training will take time, repeat and focus - maybe even a few beers for his humans. Carter SMILES the entire time and is happy to be in training, but retains little. Dobermans are known for their incredible ability to learn and observe to teach themselves. Carter identifies as a Lizard some days, other days as a Chicken. We have tried to explain to him, his amazing breed and the expectations. We want him to be LOVED for his goofiness. Favorite Color: HOT PINK Favorite Toy: Stuffed Bear Favorite Food: Meatballs by Milo's Kitchen HIS-STORY: This dude was kicked out of his home for being 'too puppy' - the shelter called rescue and it was noted, Carter did not know how to walk on a leash, was not house trained or used to any commands. He was in 'play' mode all the time and happy to have dog friends. Crate trained to force some routine and sanity at his foster home, Carter has matured (slightly) and has (some) manners. Now neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm treated (he tested positive at intake). FOSTERED IN TEXAS. *Adoption Fee includes transport to PNW, Midwest or NY-NJ-CT-VA-VT states by pet transport partners. Email to Apply!
