Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.PENNY was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas and and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Saturday 15th March. We post our available dogs in states across the east coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes to find perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs, families must come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine to meet and then hopefully take home. PENNY is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm and tick tested negative, is on monthly preventatives, microchipped, and in March 2025 weighed 59 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of April 2024. We can not say for sure what the breed is, we expect families to decide looking at any pictures and video's provide and decide if the breed is a good fit for their family. April update: Penny was adopted to a family in PA, after a meet and greet with their dog and things being great for the first week. However, Penny, being the young wild-child that she is got into some medications, luckily only chewing the bottle, something happened with the two dogs leading to Penny biting the other dogs ear and unfortunately killing one of their chickens. So Penny will be coming back to the rescue. Penny is a young, high energy beautiful girl, she is very loving and affectionate, she is very smart, walks great on the leash, rides great in the car. She is however, what I would call a diamond in the rough, she needs training, she needs structure, she needs routine, she needs mental stimulation, she needs exercise and she needs someone who understands the needs of a young intelligent dog. To the right family she will be absolutely amazing, a bit of a challenge, as intelligent dogs can be, more so teenage intelligent dogs - because as with all teenagers, they will push boundaries. Although we do not know what caused the incident with the other dog, we feel that it would be best for Penny to go to a family with no other dogs, to ensure that her or the other dog is in a situation that could cause upset. She enjoys other dogs and loves to rough play and chase, but feel this would be better on select play dates with dogs the family knows and in a controlled environment so everything can be monitored. Penny is located in PA until her family is able to bring her back to the rescue. Penny was in a foster home for the shelter before transport and the family did note that she did start to get a little protective, not aggressive, over her food and toys with the other dogs, this involved just low growls and no aggression or fights. This is quite common for dogs that have had to fend for themselves and it just takes time, patience and training for them to learn and adjust. We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks. PENNY is available for adoption as noted she is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine and families are required to complete and submit an adoption application and when approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and hopefully take home this sweet girl. Applications are processed with 24 hours of them being received.
