Dancer is a lovely Dobie mix about 2 years old. This beautiful girl is loving, playful with some good household manners. Not perfect manners because she is still puppyish and will counter surf if not supervised. Dancer has been good with the other dogs in her foster home including the 17 year old miniature Poodle in the home. She is crate trained and needs leash work but is very motivated to please. This lovely girl has an auto immune condition called Masticatory Myositis and takes a pill for it every other day. Read about this condition at this link: https://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/immune/masticatory-myositis-dogs. A $250 adoption fee applies. Story
Beowulf is a 7 year old blue male with a docked tail and natural ears. He was adopted as a puppy by an experienced and loving owner, who through family circumstances must find a safer place for Beowulf. A new baby has joined his family and although he loves the baby, the combination of changes to his routine and the unpredictable nature of small children has caused problems. Both Beowulf and that baby are safe and in no hurry to part from one another, but it is clear that restrictions that have to be in place are affecting Beowulf's quality of life. Beowulf is on hypothyroid medication as well as anti-anxiety medication, which has proven to be helpful given his level of reactive anxiety. His medication costs are about 60$ per month with 3-4 medications given routinely and should be followed by a veterinarian experienced with these meds. With that in mind, Beowulf loves people and shows typical Doberman affection of following you everywhere and wanting to snuggle at any opportunity. He currently lives with 2 cats, a German Shepherd and a young Great Dane. Although he plays with the Dane, he can get overstimulated and a little sharp when that happens. Things that set Beowulf off are unexpected noises or disturbances, including people showing up unexpectedly or anything he doesn't expect that surprises him. Walks in places like a city or town can be disturbing due to other dogs coming around a corner in close proximity or something like a trash truck driving nearby. It takes time for Beowulf to process new stimuli and he will need a patient forward-looking person to help guide him in the future. He depends heavily on his people for reassurance and guidance so a patient understanding of his needs is a must. He does best with predictable routines. Beowulf is looking for a special needs experienced home with no other animals or mature, calm animals that will give him space to settle. Due to his anxiety, his owner has had him extensively trained and he is crate-trained and very well-mannered. He loves to learn and knows several advanced tricks like high-five, and roll over. He is a wonderful companion with a lot to give and a very sweet nature that requires love and understanding. Anyone who meets Beowulf will see that the love will come back their way 100 times over. A $250 adoption fee applies. Please go to http://www.dobermanrescuenm.org and complete an application for this sweet boy.

Story
** FOSTER (or adopter!) NEEDED ** Emily is a two-year-old girl, found as a stray south of Albuquerque. She was shut down and traumatized at first but is coming out of her shell and proving to be a sweet girl. She gets along with older children, does fine with other dogs and appears to be cat friendly. Emily will need a 6′ fence as she is capable of climbing anything lower. We suspect she was kept as an 'outside' dog so would seek to escape the yard.. A loving family would change all that! Please consider opening your home to this deserving girl and fill out an application @ www.dobermanrescuenm.org. A $300 adoption fee applies.

Penny is an all natural, 5 year old Doberman mix. She loves to cuddle, chase birds, go on walks, and play in lakes and rivers. She has a few dog friends, but needs some time to get to know them. She's nervous around cars, and likes to listen to gangster rap to calm down. She has not been around cats but she has a prey drive with small animals. Penny sees lots of kids at NMAF's foster clinic and loves them. No aggression toward people at all, except the mailman! A $195 adoption fee applies. Story
Lizzie is all natural, about 8 months old and is a typical, rambunctious, silly pup. She gets along well with other dogs, and is still a bit timid around strangers. Lizzie was found dumped in a parking lot, along with her sweet brother. A caring family took them in and found a home for her brother but are looking for a loving family for Lizzie. They cannot keep her as they are over the city limit. It is unknown if she gets along with cats but she does fine with older children. Lizzie goes into her crate willingly at bedtime and is housebroken. She spends most of her time in the yard, but does scratch to go out outside. Lizzie is just a baby and deserves to find a loving, forever family. Please complete an application @ http://www.dobermanrescuenm.org! A $300 adoption fee applies.

Approximate DOB 8/1/2023 Approximate Adult Size - He seems smaller right now as he came in severely underweight. He came in at about 40 lbs but I believe he may end up at around 55 lbs (I am going to try and get a weight on him soon to update). He is going to be a good sized boy maybe a little bigger than medium sized?    History- Ended up at a local shelter twice. This last time he was severely underweight and very anxious so could not calm down in the kennels and lost even more weight due to the stress. Luckily a volunteer noticed how thin he was getting and posted he needed out asap. We talked to staff and they said he was just so nervous in the kennels he couldn't hold weight despite getting 3 feedings a day. So we went and picked him up.     Temperament- Super sweet, very smart, and loves attention. He is an amazing boy with a perfect temperament.  Energy Level- High energy. Loves fetch and wrestling with the other dogs. Dogs/Cats- Learning to play with the other dogs. He can be a little dominant when it comes to his toys - he does not like sharing. But he is learning. He does good with my older German shepherd and will give up the toys but he did get in an argument with a younger husky his age. He shows a lot of interest in the crates. When he is in his crate he will act like he wants to eat them as they walk by however if they are out while he is he shows interest but listens when I tell him to leave them alone. However I would not trust him to not give chase if given the chance. He is just very very curious about them.  Housetrained- Crate and house trained as well as uses a dog door perfectly.  Bowser is such an amazing young boy. He is getting more hyper the healthier he gets but he is learning that jumping up is not allowed. He does enjoy holding your hand when we are walking but again learning that that isn't always allowed. Haha he is just a really nice dog. He follows me around everywhere and is just such a happy loyal boy who will make a wonderful addition to any loving family wanting a perfect boy to add to their family. He is a fast learner and just overall very well behaved for being so young. Get your applications in quick as I seriously don't think he will be here long.       Adoption fee $300 includes neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies, collar and leash, training information, and all the support you need. Story
Dobie is a very sweet boy who is looking for his forever family.  He loves the great outdoors and would do well having space to run and play.  He is somewhat of an escape artist (climbs fencing using his nails) but usually doesn't stray far.   He is not a fence jumper but will need a yard with an unclimbable fence. He would do best with a family who is home most of the time, that can show him the love and security he needs  but through positive reinforcement training.  He does get excited in new situations, but walks nicely on a leash and enjoys his daily walks.  He’s not a barker, he gets along with other cats and dogs, is house trained and knows how to use a doggy door.  He loves everyone he meets, does not jump up and waits patiently to be petted.  He is an excellent couch potato!!   02/23/24 - Neuter, Rabies 1yr., DAPP 1yr., Flex 4 Test (Negative) ##1975326##

Jasper here... I'm a good guy looking for a place to land... my name means "keeper of the treasure" and you could hit the jackpot with me! They listed me as a special needs because I am missing an eye and I have an under bite but neither slows me down. I'm a big guy and will do well with a large yard / property. I would love to attend a training course with my family too so we can learn from each other. I am being fostered with other canines and so far all is good as long as we take it slow with introductions and supervision. Best with kids 15 years and older. https://highdesertdobermanrescue.org/adoption-application Belen NM 87002

Gus is about 7 year old chihuahua/min pin. He loves to cuddle and be by your side at all times. He rarely barks, is low energy, and would be content living life with just a short walk daily. He is house trained with a dog door; does well with dogs, he will tolerate cats but not his favorite, he has never been aggressive with humans or children. He would do great with someone who can hang out with him much of the time, but does ok being left 4-6 hours per day. He is very mellow sweetheart, and is a true lap dog and would lay with you all day if allowed.

Story
Meet Spankee! Spankee visited a local high school (watch the video below!) and the students had the following things to say about her: Spankee is 50 lbs according to her paperwork, and about one years old. She enjoyed being pet by us. She knew sit, and we worked with her on learning paw and down- she almost got them! Spankee likes treats, and is trainable. Spankee was a little shy with some of us, but liked cuddling with others! We hope you adopt her!https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTL718vNL/What my volunteers say about me: Spankee walks well on leash and takes treats gently. She is sweet and enjoys cuddling. She might prefer being the only dog in the house, and a meet and greet would be needed if you already have a pet at home. Spankee rides well in the car.
