Danny came to GRRAND in early August from a rural shelter and if you are looking for a cute, 2ish year old smaller (about 35 lbs) Golden mix, he could be your guy! He's had a rough time lately, running as a stray, then shelter life, so understandably, he's a little nervous, but he's gaining his confidence every day at the GRRAND kennel and with our wonderful loving volunteers. He's been gentle, and loves other dogs. We think he needs a home with a secure above ground fenced yard, and no small children as we think, at least initially, he'll be looking for avenues to escape - at least until he trusts and loves you. Story

Ben is a handsome 15 month old neutered male Golden Retriever weighing 70 lbs. He is looking for a person or couple that can give him lots of exercise, attention and direction as that is what a young boy like him thrives on and needs! He will need a dog savvy owner with the time to work with him and be willing to not crate him as he was left in a crate long hours a day, and after time, when his owners would put him in the crate, he started to get grumpy, so needless to say, Ben does not like crates! He is a young active dog who needs plenty of fun daily energy outlets, as a tired pup is a good pup! We have sent Ben to a trainer as he can get over excited and mouthy. The trainer will work with his new owner on how to control Ben's overly excitable behavior. Ben will need to go to an active home with a fully secure fenced back yard, no children, and probably no other dogs. He knows some basic commands and enjoys the GRRAND pool. Ben does well at the kennel, and the kennel volunteers love him; he craves attention and wants to play and be petted constantly. Ben may have seasonal allergies and may be allergic to chicken, so he is eating Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin dog food just in case, but it was never confirmed. We are also told he has a significant fear of vacuums and brooms. Cooper is a beautiful male, unaltered 2 year old, 60ish lb Golden Retriever who has truly lived a rough life before GRRAND. His surrendering family purchased him a year ago from a man they suspect was Amish. He had him in a crate in the back of a van in a parking lot and they said he manhandled Cooper out of a filthy crate and the poor boy was scared to death! He was turned in by his owner who is going through some personal issues, plus Cooper had several altications with their older dog, and it wasn't fair to either of the dogs to be in that situation, and the owners could not handle keeping them separated. They were very sad to have to surrender this sweet boy but felt it best. He's come a long way since then, but is still very nervous. Cooper loves to be petted and take treats gently from your hand and he is constantly looking for love and affection. He's fine with other dogs through the play yard fences. He is house-trained but not crate-trained as he does not like crates at all. He's terrified of any leash or collar and we are trying him with a harness, but at the moment he will just shut down. Prior to going to his last owner we assume the breeder beat him with a belt or a leash as his fears are real. It is apparent he has had no past socialization and this will come in time. We will continue to work with this sweet boy, but at the moment he could only go to a loving home with a dog savvy owner with a secure above ground fenced yard and while he is trying to built trust and confidence in people, we think it best no children or other pets as he does not like to share the attention and wants it all for himself. Meet Trouble ... who is actually very little trouble at all! This handsome 8-month-old Mountain Cur mix got his name because his litter was themed after fun and games, not because he's a mischievous guy. In fact, Trouble is a sweet, friendly pup who's looking for a second chance after being recently returned when his family's situation changed. Needless to say, the change has left him a little confused, but he's handling it with a wagging tail and an open heart. Trouble has been wonderful with every dog he's met in foster care and especially loves a good wrestling match with his foster sister, Violette. When he's not playing, you'll often find him digging through the toy basket in search of the perfect bone to chew.Trouble has also been a hit with the humans around him. He's affectionate, enjoys attention, and is generous with puppy kisses. Despite everything he's been through, he's remained a happy, loving boy who just wants to be part of a family again. Trouble is about 40 lbs, and will be a medium sized dog once fully grown. He's crate trained and house trained, and uses bells by the door to let you know he wants out! One interesting note: he knows the name Archie , which was the name he went by in his previous home. While he's learning the routine in foster care, he still responds to Archie and may appreciate a family willing to help him through this transition.
