STRAY - NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 11/1/2026: male - approx 5 years old - weight TBD - Maltese/Poodle X Found wandering around apartments off of Patzman in Shreveport. He'd been around there for a few days and no one knew where he came from. One of the residents took pictures of him and posted him on-line where we were tagged a few times. We went out to get him, but he eluded us the first time... so, we gave our phone number to the lady at the apartments and within about an hour, she called that they got him and he is contained... so we headed back out! He is in terrible shape... extremely matted all over this body... paws, ears, back... everywhere is like one big mat. He is not chipped or neutered. WE have the dog AND we are contacting animal control so they can register him in their system. If this is your dog you must CONTACT US for reclaiming instructions. Message our Facebook page. There will be fines levied by animal control that will need to be paid upon reclamation. Stray will be up Thursday 11/3/2026 at 4pm. We are sending him to our groomer tomorrow to take care of the matting that is clearly causing him pain and discomfort. For reference, we named him Fozzle. Biography: We were contacted by son of the owner of Molly Bea. Sadly, her owner passed away. The son tried to make it work for the last two years in a home with four kids and a large dog, but he knew she needed something different. That's where we came in. She is missing a lot of her hair on her back, which turns out is a thyroid issue, for which she's on medication now. She also has no teeth so she gets wet food and soft treats. A few things we were told about her (some of which we've determined since being with us): She is friendly and social, travels well, never been on a leash and knows little about a leash, she is responsive and does come when called, she is a lap dog, LOVES to ride in a car and doesn't like being in a kennel (we've determined that as well). Actually, she just doesn't want to be away from her human so if she's in a gated area away from you or in a kennel, she will protest. LOL! Other than that, she's just an old gal looking for her next person with a nice, soft lap. If you think that's you, we welcome your application! **WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved. We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule. *Most of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever! We took in a stray in January, posted the dog on social media and the dog was reclaimed by the couple. So, the dog wasn't adopted from us, but reclaimed from us. When dogs are reclaimed, we have them sign a reclamation form and in that form it states that if they ever want to rehome the dog, to please contact us first. So, this is how we ended up involved. Nevertheless, the couple gave the sister permission to find places for all the dogs. We took in two, two went to a family friend and the other two went to another rescue. We don't have much information about their habits. We do know they lived inside their home with several other dogs, cats, chickens and ducks (if you can imagine the scene). In any case, they are both very sweet and have acclimated nicely to our rescue environment, the people in and out and the other dogs. They should each acclimate quickly to a new home. Due to the chaotic environment they lived in, we'd prefer a quiet and peaceful home for each of them. **WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved. Temperament: a little shy at first, very sweet, social, friendly once comfy - great little temperament. Energy level: medium Groom needs: high maintenance; requires regular professional grooming, along with intermittent brushing to avoid matting - this breed mats up really fast! The coat is like cotton. Biography: We took in thirteen dogs (10 dogs and 3 puppies) from animal control after they were seized due to neglect. They all had ear mites and fleas and none were spayed or neutered. All the dogs are friendly. Some are shier than others. We don't believe they had a lot of handling because when we pick them up, they stiffen up... some more than others. They lived in individual pet carriers much of their life. We are thankful they are out of that situation and now can go on to lead happy, healthy lives with new families. Since we have so many that all pretty much look alike, we are posting them in batches. YOU MUST APPLY for a specific dog. Because these dogs will be popular, you can't just apply for "a Maltese". If you're approved and the one you applied for is reserved... we'll advise you which ones are left and you can choose from the remaining. Their personalities are virtually all the same. (For more pics, visit nr2r.petfinder.com or www.RoadtoRescueLA.org) INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK: http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Zurich (female) Intake date: 10/14/2026 Maltese 3 years old Intake weight: 8.0 pounds Adoption fee: $325, which includes vetting, microchip Good with other dogs: yes Cats: yes, they also lived with cats Vetting and other: altered (spayed), up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, fecal negative, treated for ear mites and ear hair plucked, on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention, professional groom, microchipped Health issues: none observed. Temperament: a little shy at first, very sweet, social, friendly once comfy - great little temperament. Energy level: medium Groom needs: high maintenance; requires regular professional grooming, along with intermittent brushing to avoid matting - this breed mats up really fast! The coat is like cotton. Biography: We took in thirteen dogs (10 dogs and 3 puppies) from animal control after they were seized due to neglect. They all had ear mites and fleas and none were spayed or neutered. All the dogs are friendly. Some are shier than others. We don't believe they had a lot of handling because when we pick them up, they stiffen up... some more than others. They lived in individual pet carriers much of their life. We are thankful they are out of that situation and now can go on to lead happy, healthy lives with new families. Since we have so many that all pretty much look alike, we are posting them in batches. YOU MUST APPLY for a specific dog. Because these dogs will be popular, you can't just apply for "a Maltese". If you're approved and the one you applied for is reserved... we'll advise you which ones are left and you can choose from the remaining. Their personalities are virtually all the same. The only differences may be the weight and age... which are all very close as well (along with the sex). **WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved. We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule. *Most of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever! We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family! We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing and the dog is over 15 pounds. There is no exception to this rule! *PREDATORS: IF THIS DOG IS UNDER 10 POUNDS, the dog is to be monitored and protected when outside at all times! PREDATOR-THREAT IS A REAL DANGER! For example, a hawk tried to pick up a Chihuahua owned by a friend visiting Ninna’s house… RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE VISITOR. Thankfully the visitor was watching the dog and the hawk was wrestled off of the Chihuahua but it did require an ER visit and she is was very lucky to survive. TAKE IT SERIOUSLY! *NO SMALL CHILDREN!! As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended. Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children. KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL! Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents. *HOUSETRAINING: We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained. While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night. Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home. Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency. *KENNELING: We always recommend kenneling when you cannot supervise your dog. This helps with housetraining and any destructive tendencies until you get to know your new addition. *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome. Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate. *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty. That’s our guarantee.
