Story
Yara / F / 2Y / 33 lbs / Egyptian Baladi Mix / Needs slow introductions with dogs / No children please / No cats please / From Egypt / Fostered in Toronto Follow Yara’s journey on Instagram @yaragirlpup Meet Yara! Yara was rescued after being dumped in a scrap yard in Egypt when she was just a few months old. She was nursed back to health and has since made the big trip to Canada. Yara's fosters describe her as a completely loveable little lady. She is gentle, polite, and affectionate. She can be a bit shy to start out but once she knows you, it is love and pets all day long. She will bring her head to your hand and just rest there. With people she knows, Yara is friendly and prefers to be nearby where she can soak up attention when she wants, or just be close to her pack. Yara can be hesitant, and sometimes vocal, when meeting new people so slow introductions are crucial. She needs time to observe and feel safe in new surroundings and with new people. Yara has had mixed experiences with children in the past, so we are recommending a child free home at this time. The ideal home for Yara would be with a family that will include her in daily activities and advocate for her when out. A home in a quieter neighborhood would be best as Yara is nervous of loud noises and busy streets. A yard where she can explore and lounge would be a bonus as she loves to be outside. Access to greenspace will be a necessity for Yara. Yara is a true sweetheart, who likes to take things slow. She is ready for a patient family who is willing to help her feel safe and loved. Yara needs proper, slow introductions with other dogs. She can be reactive with dogs on the street especially if they are bigger than her. That being said, Yara has lived with other dogs in the past and done well. She enjoyed going for walks together and having their company in the house. Yara prefers the company of a calm, smaller dog. Yara has lived with cats in the past, but does have a high prey drive, so a cat free home would be best. Yara absolutely loves being outdoors and enjoys walks, especially ones involving nature trails. Exploring new smells and places is one of her favourite things to do. She also loves to climb up on walls, or logs, as she explores. Yara thoroughly enjoys walks and is making good progress with loose leash training. That said, she will pull if she sees squirrels or birds and can be reactive in busy environments. A quiet neighborhood street is her dream ‘go for a walk’ scenario. Yara is wonderful within the house. She has great manners and does well to be left alone. She was crate trained in the past, but shows no signs of anxiety or destructive behaviors so she is able to free roam. Yara tends not to use her crate in the house but does enjoy having it when she goes for car ride. Yara is not super food-motivated, but you can win her over with chicken and cheese. She already knows her basic commands and is house-trained. She enjoys playing with a snuffle-mat after she has finished dinner. If you’re interested in adopting Yara, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Yara’s adoption fee is $850. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit. Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sonja / Female / 8 years old / 47 lbs / Mixed Breed / Dog Selective / No Cats / Untested with Children / From Mexico / Fostered in Mississauga Here comes one of our senior girls, Sonja! She’s a very sassy lady, opinionated, and takes what she knows she deserves, like a comfy spot on the bed or some time in the backyard. The way she plays chase, tug, and fetch is very much like a silly puppy, so age is just a number. She enjoys being with her foster family whether its cuddling up to watch some TV or chewing on her favourite antler. Sonja enjoys playing fetch and chase so don't be surprised if she tries to convince you to keep playing. Sonja would love a quiet neighbourhood that would allow her to build her confidence with her trusted people. In just a few short months with her current foster, she is adjusting well to domesticated life and has a willingness to meet with dogs and other people, however her foster must advocate well for her and know how to take charge of situations. She is looking for a true love kind of deal with lots of cuddle time. If your hands are free, she will paw at you to give her scratches, so be prepared to set aside some undetermined amount of time for pets at her leisure. She’s content with a few short walks a day but would appreciate a yard so she can sit outside somewhere quiet and familiar. Sonja is dog-selective. She will surprise you by liking some dogs and disliking others. She could potentially live with another dog but will require proper introductions. Sonja is looking for a cat free home. Sonja is a polite house mate. Sonja does enjoy being gated more so this is something her new family may want to consider. Sonja is still working on basic training. She knows her name, sit, paw and wait so far. She is currently working on her recall with a squeaker and is doing very well. She is a very smart lady and listens when asked to stop. She is quite food motivated so should pick up basic commands quickly. If you're searching for a loyal, affectionate, and active companion to be a cherished part of your family, Sonja is ready to fill that role. Her resilience and loving nature will warm your heart and bring joy to your home. Adopt Sonja, and you'll have a devoted and loving friend for life. Sonja is a flight risk and our top priority in her furever home is safety. Her forever family must take precautions to keep her safe and secure, including the purchase of a GPS tracker which will be required for adoption. Sonja has Enamel Hypoplasia which is the thinning of the enamel on her teeth. Homecare will help with brushing, but she may require professional dental cleaning in the future. Sonja should avoid hard chews, toys, and treats as her teeth will be more prone to breaking during play. If you're interested in fostering with the intention of adopting Sonja, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Sonja's adoption fee is $250. To learn more about our adoption fees and the adoption process, please visit our FAQs at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/about-us#about-faqs.
