The mother was a Blue Heeler. While we had the dogs at the man's house posted for the family to try to find homes for them, someone let the gate open to the dog pen, letting her mother and three siblings out, and her mother and one sibling were killed by something or someone. Rhea was the third one that was missing, but she was found on 7/17/15, and reunited with her sister Rayna. She can dig under a fence if she wants to, so she will need to be in a secure yard, or crated when gone. Rhea is more social with people than Rayna, but they are both very sweet and making very good progress with us. They both come up to me, and loves treats. While working on a rescue project, Truffles and her sister Capri were found at a dumpster at Lake Palestine on 9/3/15 in route to our rescue location. Both came running up, are somewhat good on a leash, but need more practice, are very sweet, and love to be pet. They are crate trained, love to play with the other dogs, and they are social with people, so they did have an owner. We had them at an adoption event in September 2015, and they let a lot of children pet them. We were thinking possible Beagle mix for the breed at first until the Cocker Spaniel mix was suggested. There was also the suggestion of Rottweiler in looking at Capri. Both girls have stub tails and underbites. 9/17/20 UPDATE: Capri was adopted in 2016, and Truffles has shown herself over the years to be skittish of new people that come to our property. Over time with giving treats, a few people have been able to pet her, so an adopter would have to know how to work with her. She is good with our other dogs, except other dominant female dogs. She is still crate trained, and comes up to me wagging her stub for attention. D.O.B.: ? Artie was transferred to me on 8/31/17 from the Rebel Ranch Rescue after the founder, Amy Allen, was murdered on 8/21/17. Artie was one of 4 dogs still there that other rescue groups chose not to take. He was scared and tried to chew the leash the first attempt to get him out of his dog pen, so a second leash was used as a muzzle. He seemed to be very attached to his companion Dahlia who shared his dog pen, so was happy to be in a crate next to her for the drive back to our property. After being in a dog pen for about one week. I decided to start letting Artie and Dahlia out to run, and they would chase each other around and then run back into the dog pen when done. After another week of this, I decided to leave the gate open all the time. They eventually moved to another section of our property. Dahlia started climbing our 4 foot perimeter fence, but Artie has stayed on our property and made friends with the other dogs here, so he is not as attached to Dahlia as I first thought. He is still skittish of people, but loves treats and can food, which has made him feel comfortable enough to come up to me on occasion to let me pet him. At first I had to throw treats to him, but now he will take them from my hand, and especially will come for a spoon of can food. He needs a home that will be patient with him, other dogs to play with, and a large fenced area. He likes to get on top of dogs houses and other things to lay down on, and knows where the treats are, so will get into the bags if not sealed up. I was told that Amy called him Smarty Artie. He also has an underbite, which may indicate he is part Boxer. Artie was adopted on 8/1/20 to a young boy for 1.5 months. He was returned due to being terrified of storms, and in the house alone. He can break out of a wire crate, and try to escape a house if someone is not with him, so he would do better with someone who is home a lot. He is also terrified of gunshots and fireworks. She had a male dog in the dog pen with her named Artie, who seemed to be attached to her. After being in a dog pen for about one week. I decided to start letting Dahlia and Artie out to run, and they would chase each other around and then run back into the dog pen when done. Dahlia also LOVES to get in water. After another week of this, I decided to leave the gate open all the time. They eventually moved to another section of our property. Dahlia started climbing our 4 foot perimeter fence and running around the wooded area, but Artie has stayed on our property and made friends with the other dogs here, so he is not as attached to Dahlia as I first thought. Dahlia got to where she came up to me to get pet, so it was easy to catch her when she was outside our property. I put her in a small secure kennel at first with some can food, so she knew that going in that kennel meant can food when I needed to catch her again. I now have her in a secure 6 foot tall dog pen, and she loves attention and getting pet. She first found a way out through the chain link on top by getting on top of a dog house, but the chain link is now secure to the railing. She needs a lot of space to run with a tall secure fence that can't be climbed over or dug under, and a source of water to get into. It would be nice if she could get a job to do, since she is very trainable, and it might help keep her at a home. Dahlia was already spayed when transferred, and heartworm negative on 9/1/17. He keeps his ears down when I try to get more videos of him, so I have not updated his pictures yet. I picked Axel up from the Smith County, TX Animal Shelter on 11/29/17. He had been picked up on CR 3140 on 11/8/17 weighing 30 pounds, and estimated to be 4 years old. He was scared in the kennel at the shelter. Once out of the kennel, he was in my lap licking my face while I was signing his release papers, good on a leash, and likes going for rides. I have let him run around several of my dogs with no problems, but he can act dominant to some other male dogs. He was neutered on 1/5/2018. He does not like being inside a home, so he requires a fenced yard with shelter, and although I put him on my lap at the shelter, he is not a lap dog. He does jump on my leg to get my attention to pet him. He was heartworm positive when I got him from the shelter, and has been on heartworm prevention since, so he should be negative by now using the slow kill treatment. A neighbor brought this little puppy to me on Friday, 1/19/18, at around 5:00 p.m., and said the puppy was traveling the road with an adult male dog that looked similar to the puppy, but the puppy came to him in his yard while the other dog kept going. I put some food down for him, and he ate like he was starving. I gave him the name Brody. On Saturday, 1/20/18, I noticed that he did not stir while sleeping no matter what the noise was. I was able to get him in to the Gresham Veterinary Hospital on Tuesday, 1/23/18, to get vaccinated, and check his inner ears since he can bark. We had a Yellow Lab years ago that was born deaf, and made noises instead of barking. The puppie's ears looked good, he weighed 10.6 pounds, and was estimated to be 10 weeks old, so date of birth is around November 14, 2017. Brody was neutered on 2/17/18, weighed 21.6 pounds, and still growing. As of 5/10/20, he is 93 pounds. Brody is very playful, does not like to be by himself, and will be vocal about it. He requires a fenced yard, and another dog that can hear to guide him and play with him. Vehicles should not be moved around him without knowing where he is, and he is not an apartment dog. I am working on house training him, and he is doing good. He is crate trained, and likes sleeping on a dog bed in his crate. His fur is very soft, and he loves attention from people. Adoption fee is $80, which includes his neuter and vaccinations. July 12, 2024, 4:27 pm
