Story
Lizzy was a messy rock star when we got her with her friend, Ace, from a Wilmington feral colony. We got her feeling well again and she has turned in to a very sweet girl. She is still a little timid, but she is making great strides in a short period of time. Lizzy would do fine in a home with or without another cat. She's the type that likes to be near you, but doesn't like to be picked up. A quieter home would be ideal. All Feline Matchmakers cats get age appropriate vaccinations, fixed, tested and microchipped prior to adoption. Please fill in our application via http://www.felinematchmakers.org We only adopt kittens and young cats out within a one hour radius of Wilmington, NC to those over 21 years old. Occasionally we make exceptions for adult cats, but we are not a transport company. IF YOU DO NOT MEET THESE GUIDELINES, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTED. ##2136368##

Story
He is a very loving cat. Was owned by an elderly couple before my grandson took him. The couple had to go to assisted living. My grandson and wife had to move to Arizona for work. I agreed to let him stay with me until I could find him a home. I am 74 and just broke my arm. It is hard to take care of the cat needs and I really did not want a pet. He is very happy just eating and sleeping and getting his head scratched in your lap. Loves to lay in front of the door in the sunshine. I cannot afford vet bills and certain things are hard for me to do for him right now (litter box). I want him to have a good home. I do not want to take him to the pound. Do not know history of shots or vet visits but if interested will get him checked. Have not done this because my budget does not include vet bills, but if interested will get him checked.

Story
Please note there is no need to complete an adoption questionnaire this  adoption site . We only need our  Adoption Application Questionnaire  completed. January 2024 - Sweet Mama Batts is still available! Learn how to adopt her!  FURR only adopts in the Wilmington/Hampstead NC and surrounding area to approved homes. August 2022 - Another cat showed up at Mr. Batts neighborhood. I’ve already trapped THREE that I still have & he called me to say there was one more! So, I trapped the last one that was another black cat. I took it to the S/N clinic, and when I picked her up in the afternoon, the vet told me that they fixed her, etc., BUT that she had JUST HAD KITTENS VERY RECENTLY!!! I just started to cry. She has now been away from new borns a whole night & day and now she has just had surgery! I told the vet I would have to let her go if the babies had ANY chance of survival & pray to GOD I haven’t caused kittens to die! This “Mama Batts” kitty was tiny & skinny. She, in NO WAY, looked pregnant or to be nursing. The vet said I could let her go after a few hours after surgery….and again, I was just in tears. I HATE it when this happens & you catch & fix a feral cat that has KITTENS!! So, I rushed to PetSmart, with Mama Batts in the car, left the car running, and bought my first GPS collar. I had to figure out how to program it, get it on a collar & get it on HER. I got all that done, released her after a few hours, called my sister to come sit with me. Mama Batts took us to an old abandoned boat & there, inside, were 5 new born black kittens!!! They were barely alive & still had umbilical cords on them & they couldn’t have been more than a couple days old. I got the kittens out of the boat & put them in a small carrier. Then using the kittens as bait, backed up a trap to the carrier & re-trapped Mama Batts who went right in to get to her babies. One of the babies had terribly infected eyes & even after Kristy & Patty took it to the vet for me (I was in the hospital), it ended up passing away. My heart was broken, but I am grateful for all trying to save it. I paid to have the little one cremated & added to the FURR cremation box with our still much loved FURR friends from the past. Mama Batts & her 4 kittens have since been in my bathroom. The kittens are 4 weeks old now, all black & adorable little black bear cubs! If someone takes Mama Batts along with a kitten (or 2), special pricing, food & free vet care provided for 6 months! Mama Batts is short haired shiny black, very young (probably not even 1 yr yet) and healthy! She is already spayed, shots, tested, microchipped, etc. All vetting comes with the kittens at the appropriate age. Mama Batts is shy, but loves to be petted, rubbed & getting better & better about being picked up. She has had it rough & deserves so much love! As of January 2023, 1 of her kittens was adopted last November and 2 males and 1 female are still available. See the "Battlet Youngsters" listing for details. Story
Please note there is no need to complete an adoption questionnaire this  adoption site . We only need our  Adoption Application Questionnaire  completed. October 15, 2024  My name is AUTUMN!  I’m the funniest, silliest, shiniest, friendliest, most talkative cat you have ever seen!  I am TRULY ONE IN A MILLION!  I’m only about a year old and everyone at FURR loves me!!!  To say I’m a character is putting it mildly…I’m a nut!  I’m just a super “excited to be rescued” kitty!  Come visit & see for yourself.  I’ll tickle your funny bone! June 20, 2024 AUTUMN is such an amazing kitty!   She continues to crack me up every day!  She is nonstop wiggling and nonstop chattering! She can’t be still for 5 minutes so I have to pet and rub her while she is head bunting me or slapping her tail against everything she walks by! Autumn is getting very sleek and healthy! Her sunburned auburn fur is finally turning black.  She loves the kittens but would probably LOVE to be the only queen of the castle! May 2024 – Autumn’s dental surgery was successful  and she’s feeling much better – and happier! We do still need about $1,000 to cover her surgery, so please donate today! April 12, 2024  Autumn is hilarious!    Watch her video! She is so excited to have attention that she can’t stop wiggling!  She is doing well, upper respiratory has cleared up from her antibiotics and eating her mushy food well! Her dental is scheduled for mid May.  We are on the waiting list to get in sooner.  Her mouth is horrible with rotten teeth and painful red gums. We need $2,000 to cover her expenses!!!  We’ve raised a small amount, but we have a long way to go.  Please share with anyone you know that might want to help! Autumn is extremely grateful for the help!  Another special rescue cat that would have died left outside on her own. Also, here (feature photo above) is a cute pic of her peeking out of her little house! April 5, 2024  Here is Terry’s latest Urgent Rescue & Rehabilitation story about “Autumn”, named after the area where Terry found her. Please click our  Donate  button on the right today to help us with the veterinary bills (current and upcoming)! Here is the story of Terry rescuing Autumn and giving her much needed TLC. I got a call from a lady in Wilmington, NC.  Her neighbor moved away and left outdoor feral cats to survive on their own.  It was a bad and sad situation. The cats were hanging out at this lady’s house (the lady that called me), using her yard as a litter box, getting on their cars and one of the cats scratched their dog and caused a large vet bill.  I believe she said her dog killed that one. So she and her husband wanted the cats gone ASAP. I did the best I could calling and making contacts with Wilmington rescue groups with no luck.  No one could help.  It’s really not my territory since I’m overwhelmed in my own area. But, once you know of abandoned animals, it’s hard to erase it from your mind. The lady thought there were 3 cats left.  I finally found a place for the cats to go (a long way away) and it was sheer luck that they had only a couple of openings. So I trapped the first 2 cats, took them to the vet (as the rescue requested) and then drove them out to the rescue with updated shots, flea/parasite treatment, etc.  The first 2 cats cost FURR $240. I went the next day back to trap the final 3rd cat.  I got that one and dropped it off at the vet for the same vet work as the other 2.  All 3 of these cats were TNR from a prior year, so at least they were already fixed and ear tipped. BUT, I got a call from the vet saying that this feral cat had a bad Upper Respiratory Infection and a totally infected mouth, gums and teeth! This cat needs at least 2 weeks of meds, syringe feeding before the dental surgery. Autumn’s initial veterinary exam cost  an additional  $250. Autumn’s dental bill will be an additional $1,500. I put her in my garage so I could care for her.  It only took a couple hours to get her purring and making biscuits…unbelievable.  I think she has been starving and hurting for a while.  This poor kitty, in pain and hungry, had a soft blanket, soft food, sweet voices and rubs.  She totally transformed. Please help us help sweet Autumn via the secure, easy Donate button on the right! Please pray for this kitty.  The soonest dental appointment I could get for her at Sound Cat is a month away. If anyone has time to make phone calls to area vet’s to find one that works with rescues, could charge us less and get “Autumn” in earlier, I would be so grateful!!! Thank you all so much for well wishes and prayers!  I’ve got my work cut out for me…. Terry Post navigati November 4, 2024, 1:04 pm

Please note there is no need to complete an adoption questionnaire on this page. We only need our Adoption Application Questionnaire completed at: https://www.catfurr.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (please copy/paste link) January 7, 2025 Watch his new video showing his very affectionate nature ! Please copy/paste link if needed:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgLkj3pU_Dw December 24, 2024 Took sweet TUX to the vet this am.  He’s having a rough time.  With his broken pelvis and injury to his kidneys, probably from being hit by a car, he is a “special needs kitty” who needs medicine and maintenance for the rest of his life. The good news is that he doesn’t know there’s anything wrong!  He gets around just like all the other kitties and is easy to medicate. His medications help address the kidney damage from his injuries, but the meds are not expensive at all. He takes whatever you need to give him – no problem! What a great sport! More importantly, TUX is just the sweetest cat you could ever meet!   It’s so unfair that he had to begin his young life homeless and injured.  He loves to rub on your legs and be petted and held. The vet says he’s around 6 years old and there is every reason to hope that he’ll have a long and happy life just like any other kitty. Best of all, he gives TONS of love in return to the extra care he needs. Everyone wins! We hope and pray that a caring person will come along and adopt him for his amazing personality, knowing his misfortune, and will love him all the more! December 20, 2024 Watch his new video! Please copy/paste link if needed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOkb8UVv5Ks TUX is doing well in his large holding pen at the sanctuary.  This poor cat is skin & bones, but for a week now he is eating and drinking everything i put in front of him!  He must have been starving. TUX has been easy to care for & although he is scared and timid, I have been able to pet & stroke him without incident. This is good and bad!  I am completely full at FURR, but i know if I release TUX into the sanctuary, I won’t be able to work with him every day. He really seems like he wants love and he is a young cat around 2 -4 years old. October 9, 2024  So a cat has been seen running by my sanctuary in the evenings.  I’ve been putting food & water out for it.  The cat seemed pretty feral, was VERY skinny and I knew I had to help him. At first I thought he was black and could be one of my missing ferals!  However, when I finally got a good look at him on my outside cameras, I could see that he did not have a tipped ear & he was actually a Tuxedo (white belly, chest & paws). I was able to humanely trap him last night and I took him to the S/N clinic today. He is, in fact, a boy (not neutered), very thin, covered in fleas, no collar and no microchip.  He hissed at me several times showing his disapproval of the events of the day! But now, he has settled in his large recovery cage (large chicken coop) and is resting.   Calling him “Tux” since he will be the only tuxedo in the sanctuary…..as bad as that name is! Tux tested negative for FIV & FeLV & HW and is now neutered, had all his shots, is microchipped, dewormed and treated for fleas. Welcome to FURR sanctuary TUX! Please note there is no need to complete an adoption questionnaire on this page. We only need our Adoption Application Questionnaire completed at: https://www.catfurr.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (please copy/paste link) October 20, 2024 Meet Addie (shorthair black female) and Party (gray longhair female) in their new video! These sweet sisters are a matched set, full of affection and so happy to finally be safe, snuggly and well fed. Party is the third sibling mentioned in the original story below. September 23, 2024 UPDATE ON MAMA CAT & 2 BABIES RESCUED! The mama cat and 2 babies that I trapped that were living behind Advance Auto in Hampstead are doing OK.  They were living in and out of the dumpster.  I would see them on my way home from FURR at night and with NO other rescue interested in saving feral cats, I just had to save them, I have so many black shorthair cats. The cat family was starving and living very close to Hwy. 17!  Surely they would die soon from starvation, parasites, disease, cars or coyotes.  They really didn’t have a chance to survive there. Mama (single black kitty in a crate) is very feral.  I can barely pet her while she is hissing at me.  I took her to Sound Cat, our vet, to be spayed, shots, microchipped, etc.  She recovered in a cage at FURR for a week and then I moved her out to our sanctuary.  She has a slight head tilt, so I can always know which one she is.  The vet said this could be from head trauma or from being hit by a car, etc.  Who knows, but she is eating and pooping normally. The 2 kittens (2 black kitties shown together) went to the vet for exam and 1st shots.  They are TERRIFIED.  They are 2 little girls about 12 weeks old, but the smaller one, “TOTO” is way underweight and REALLY feral.  The larger kitten, “Addie” is a little less scared. Doc Rockwell informed me that TOTO has cataracts!  We don’t know how much she can see which may be part of her fear. I need to schedule an appointment with the animal eye specialist to see if TOTO can be helped at all. I’m syringe feeding them because they don’t want to eat. Meanwhile, they are safe at FURR and I’m doing my best to care for them. I’m really scared there may be more siblings, so I’m setting traps every am and pm keeping a close watch just in case. September 1, 2024 Watch this video of this little kitty mama finally enjoying some good food along with Terry’s encouragement. Here is their story … I saw a cat and babies a couple weeks ago in a Hampstead store parking lot.  You can imagine my thoughts of horrible things happening to them. I put out food and water and went back every night to feed them, while wondering why I am the ONLY person that sees these things! They seemed to disappear after a couple of days, but I still kept putting food and water out every night. Yesterday, I joined my husband and friends for dinner before a final check on FURR for the night. It was about 11:30 pm when we were on the way home and the Mom and babies were in the parking lot scrounging around the dumpsters. I went back to FURR to get traps and I waited until I caught mom and 1 baby! Tonight, I got a second baby and I do believe there is a third. I’ll be back again tomorrow night to try for the last kitten. I feel so bad knowing it’s all alone out there! Mom is VERY tiny and probably no more than 6 months old. The babies are probably around 3-4 months old. They are all black and otherwise just skin and bones – literally starving. I also managed to get flea/worm medicine on all three.
