Domestic Shorthair kittens & cats in Victoria, British Columbia

Valka and her kittens, Tuffnut (aka Tuffy), and Toothless (aka Toofy) are a really special trio of cats and we're looking for the perfect home for them. Valka spent most of her short life living on her own, fending for herself as a stray. This past summer she had 3 kittens and when they were quite young they became ill and one of the kittens sadly passed away. We were able to catch the family shortly thereafter and have nursed them back to health. This family is so bonded to one another that we would really love to see them stay together long-term. Toofy & Tuffy were born as feral kittens and have come a very long way since then, but they need to find just the right home to help them thrive and continue on with their socialization. Valka is a domestic cat but she obviously has significant trauma from the experiences that she's had and it takes her a really long time to learn how to trust new people. It will take a very special person to give this trio the right home, but if you are an experienced cat-caregiver and are comfortable working with under-socialized cats, we'd love to hear from you. Toofy is the black & white kitten and he was the more curious and forward of the two brothers at first. He may be the smaller of the two, but Toofy was the first one to be brave enough to accept attention and handling from his foster mom. The key to this boy's heart is through food, but he can be a bit pushy for his food too so you have to find a balance. If he knows that you have food for him he gets grabby. Once Toofy trusts you, he is sweet and follows you around asking for attention. He has a wonderful purr and is a real gentleman. Tuffy (orange) is the more dominant of the two kittens once he's settled in, but he started out much less brave than his brother and it took a long time for his confidence to build. When he first arrived he would hiss, spit, and strike at his foster mom (out of fear) if she got too close. She spent a long time building his trust and Tuffy is actually quite pushy now and barges his way to the front of the line to get attention. He is now the more forward and friendly of the two kittens and really just craves attention. Like his brother, he does sometimes give love-nips when he gets over-stimulated during a cuddle session. Tuffy will purr, and rub, and roll around to get attention but every few pets he gets a bit over-stimulated and he will nip at his foster mom. She will take a very brief time out from petting him and then go right back to it until Tuffy starts to get over-stimulated again. He is learning quickly and does understand the word 'no' but it's important for his new owner to have a good handle on how to read Tuffy's body language and have experience working with under-socialized cats. These two boys are food motivated, which makes them a bit easier to work with. Valka takes a lot longer than her boys do to trust a new person and will definitely spend a lot of time hiding when she goes to her new home. She really needs someone to give her space and let her come out of her shell at her own pace. Precious and Bella are a pair of senior kitties who are looking for a home together. Unfortunately, they lost their home after their mom passed away. These two are mother (Precious) & daughter (Bella) and have been together their whole lives. Therefore, it is very important that they can find a home together. Precious (aka Mama) has the saddest eyes. She's been having a bit of a tough time adjusting since her owner passed away. Momma is a little bit shy, but is very curious. She loves pets and head butting! She has an adorable habit of wobbling her head a little when she sees that pets are incoming. Precious is 11 years old and is healthy. Bella has quite an angular face (similar to a Maine Coon) so sometimes she looks like she's grumpy, but she's a very sweet kitty. She is very chatty and will always come to you when she wants love. Bella really enjoys belly rubs! She is a bit more social than Mama, but both girls are very sweet. Bella is currently 9 years old and is in good health. Both of these lovely ladies have spent time in the past with outdoor access, but are also content being indoors, as long as they have a window to watch the birds! They also adapt and learn schedules quickly. They love wet food and will be by your side when it's time for breakfast and dinner. Leaving crunchy food out is great too, as they only graze a little bit throughout the day. Bella and Mama are currently in a foster home with other cats, and while they are starting to get used to them, the would prefer a home where it's just the two of them. They will slowly come to tolerate another cat or two if they are quiet cats that leave them to their own devices. Neither of the cats would enjoy a home with dogs or children. Pearl is a small, young, quiet kitty who is hoping to find just the right home for her needs. Pearl came to us from a hoarding situation so she wasn't socialized to humans when she was young. Due to this, Pearl is shy around people and uncomfortable being touched, but she finds great comfort in other cats. Therefore, she is looking for a quiet home, with a cat-experienced care-giver, and other felines that will welcome her into the fold. Pearl came into our care when she was about 10 months old, and she turned 1 year in August. In the time that she's been with us Pearl has made some progress, but she still has a lot of opportunity to blossom. Pearl didn't have the best experiences with handling in the past, so she's nervous about being pet or picked up. If she's cornered and can't run away, she will tolerate some gentle pets, but if she has the opportunity to avoid your hands, she will. However, she absolutely loves the other cats. She sleeps with them, plays with them, and was even nursing two litters of kittens that didn't belong to her. Pearl would really like to be in a home with at least one other cat, but ideally a few friendly cats. Since Pearl came from a hoarding situation, she will be happy surrounded by other cats. Due to the fact that Pearl can be nervous around loud sounds and fast movements, she needs to find an adult-only home. One with a serene energy will be best for her. It will also be important that Pearl's new family have cat experience to help guide her as she grows socially. It will be important for Pearl to be in a home without children or dogs. Meet Chiquita: the pretty, swirly tabby who will slowly worm her way into your heart. This adorable girl was rescued from a hoarding situation and within days, gave birth to a litter of kittens. She was a wonderful mom, and now that her babies have been adopted, it's Chiquita's turn. This lovely lady grew up in a situation where she wasn't treated very well by people, so she is very leery of folks she doesn't know. During her time with us, she has been with a few different foster homes and has acted differently in each one. In one foster home she was quite friendly and would seek out attention, especially at dinner time. In another, Chiquita didn't want to be pet, but she was perfectly comfortable being near her foster and interacting with him. In another, she was leery about being pet but would allow it sometimes. It's a bit tough to know how Chiquita will interact with people, until she gets used to them. Her ideal home will be with a quiet, gentle, cat-savvy person who can give Chiquita love while moving at her pace. One thing is certain; Chiquita likes other cats. Having grown up in an environment with a lot of other cats around, she is comfortable being in groups. Therefore, we are hoping to find a home for Chiquita where she'll either be adopted with one of her friends (Amiga or Pearl) or where there will be other cats. Amiga, Pearl and Chiquita were all rescued at the same time and have been living together for several months. They get along well and would be happy to be in the same home. However, they are not so bonded that they can't be separated. Chiquita is not comfortable with dogs or children. Prior to Chiquita coming into our care, she received an injury to her eye. The injury has healed up nicely and she has normal vision in her eye. However, there was some damage to the muscles is her upper eyelid. This makes the eyelid droop a bit and makes it appear that Chiquita has a squinty eye. The vet has looked at it many times and has confirmed that it's only an eyelid issue. It does not cause Chiquita any discomfort and does not require any special care. If you have room in your heart for a pair of kitties, or if you have a cat at home who would like a companion, please consider adopting Chiquita. She will take a little while to warm up, but will be a great addition once she's comfortable.
