Story
🐾BRUTUS🖤 Brutus is a 2 year old Dutch Shepherd/Lab mix according to his embark testing! He’s a big cuddly goofball and loves to make his humans laugh! 🥰 This lanky boy is very smart and loves to do training/learn new things and keep his brain busy, which makes sense with his awesome breed mix! He’s very affectionate and loves to follow his person around and cuddle. He rides great in the car and is fully crate and housetrained. 💯 Brutus is a great swimmer and loves to play fetch in the water, his foster is currently training him for dock diving! Despite being very active and having lots of energy he has a great off switch, too. He can get excited very easily and has some manners that need work but his foster mama is having so much fun training him & he’s learning quickly. 🐶 If you’re interested in dog sports, Brutus would be a great match for you! Especially if you’re a beginner - he is so eager to learn and please.🥰 For his forever family, Brutus is seeking an active home with someone who is willing to keep up with his training and give him plenty of exercise. He thrives when staying active both physically and mentally. He does great with all sizes of dogs & older kids. He is a very social boy and would do great with some dog friends in his home! 🏡 Does Brutus sound like the adventure buddy you’ve been looking for? 🫶🏼 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Story
Meet April – Your Future Adventure Buddy with a Heart of Gold! Hi, I’m April! I may have had a tough start—rescued from a heartbreaking cruelty case in Arkansas where only my sister and I survived—but I’ve never let that dim my spirit. I’m a sweet, loving puppy who just wants to be around my humans, soaking up affection and sharing my endless joy. I’ve been with my foster family for almost three weeks now, and I’ve done an amazing job adjusting to life outside the shelter. I have an older foster sister who’s still warming up to my puppy energy, but I’d love a sibling who’s ready to run and play with me! I’ve got plenty of zoomies to go around. Speaking of running—I’d be the ultimate running buddy and adventure companion! Whether it's a hike, a jog, or a romp in the backyard, I’m always ready to go. I’d thrive with an active family who can take me for a couple of walks a day (or even better, a good run!) or ideally has a fenced-in yard where I can stretch my legs and explore. I’m working hard on my training and have already gotten better at "come," "sit," "down," "settle," and "paw"—but I’m still a puppy and need continued guidance, especially since I can get a little nippy when I’m excited to play. I do best when I have structure, activity, and lots of love. I’m not a huge fan of being alone in my crate, but I’ll nap in it happily if my humans are nearby, and I sleep through the night like a pro. I’d love a forever home where someone is around most of the time, and we can share all life’s adventures together. If you’re looking for a loyal, energetic, and affectionate sidekick who’s ready to explore the world by your side, I’m your girl—let’s make forever memories together!

Story
Hello! My name is Murphy, or Murph for short. Here are some reasons why I am the best boy and would be a great addition to your home: 1. I LOVE to snuggle. I try to be as close to everyone as possible at all times 2. I am cat tested. The cat in my foster home likes to chase and surprise me- I am curious about the cat and respond well when tempted. I even try to play 3. I am potty trained- not one single accident! 4. I am crate trained however; I’d much prefer to sleep where everyone else is. My foster mom says I’m too big for the bed. I know how to escape wire crates using my nose (I’m smart, not destructive) so I require a crate that is secured or enclosed 5. I play SO well with my foster friends. I live with 5 friends currently and get along well with everyone 6. I do best with a buddy. I am scared when left all alone and vocalize that to my foster mom. I prefer to be able to see or hear where my friends or humans are 7. I am not shy to food. I am working on gaining some muscle mass after my shelter stay. My foster mom says I am filling out to be a healthy and strong boy! 8. I LOVE toys. I am a strong chewer so I require toys that can withstand my power March 10, 2025, 4:47 pm

Story
Arya is precious!! She’s a little girl, very shy and timid and scared until you get her out to play. She was so fearful and just coward down thinking I was going to hurt her once I got her out her little personality came out and she’s very playful and loved the toys and would come up and get lots of kisses, but would run and slow down and cower as she approaches you. SHE LOVES TO PLAY WITH TOYS. A volunteer has spent more time playing with her and trying to get her confidence up and she did great. She still is fearful but has a sweet gentle kind soul! She can be dominant. Now available for adoption.

Story
As a rescue, We do not euthanize dogs but dogs that are listed as URGENT are still waiting to be saved from animal control and they do euthanise. We can only save them when space is available or have an adopter. Meet Darla she is 3 month old Cutie pie. Love her toys, very gentle and playful. She will be fully vetted before her adoption. This little princess would love a home to call her own, someone who she can have adventures with go for walks, play or just cuddling together and love her forever. She needs a HERO to adopt her. She is in a kill shelter, and we’re trying to save her. Now excepting applications.

Story
Meet Cooper Cooper is a stunning and wonderful purebred 3.5 year old GSD. He came from a junk yard two years ago. He is an escape artist. He would do best with a single owner, and could use a job, sport, or some sort of work. He would excel at any assigned task. Cooper was adopted a year ago but sadly, his owner unfortunately experienced medical issues that required him to surrender Cooper back to Lincoln/Cumberland shelter. We met and assessed Cooper, who reminded me a lot of my son's retired military working dog. He will take a bit of time to warm up to a new person, but once he has, in the case of the shelter staff, he is happy and playful. We prefer an adopter to have GSD or Malinois experience. He is not a famly-type pet. Cooper needs a person who understands this type of dog and he needs. His hips look great, and we saw no concerning behaviors. Thank you for choosing rescue.
