Story
Millie is a very sweet dog, she's well behaved but can be a little stubborn with listening. She is scared of rambunctious dogs but would br okay with calm small dogs. She was used as a hunting dog before I got her, I was told she is gun shy, therefore she doesn't care for loud sudden noises. She is very very afraid of thunder. She is sweet and calm. She needs a home with someone who spends a lot of time at home as she has some separation anxiety. She LOVES people.

Story
Doreen wins over everyone she meets with her smiling face and willful spirit. She is 3 years old and 46 pounds. She lives in a home with her foster dad and another dog who is twice her size. Her favorite activities include walks, car rides, and putting her head in your lap for pets. Doreen was brought to a high trac shelter as a found pet in December 2023. Shelter life is stressful for most dogs but for Doreen it was especially difficult. Volunteers described her as friendly but shy and nervous. She wasn’t eating and losing weight. This is clearly a dog who once had a home, and it must have been awful for her to nd herself in a noisy, chaotic shelter. Doreen had many volunteer fans who loved her sweet nature and were worried about her being at risk of euthanasia for space. Doreen was lucky enough to nd her foster in May 2024. Doreen is relieved to be out of the shelter but would love to have family to call her own. She walks well on leash and knows to “sit.” She is friendly towards other dogs but would do best in a home as an only dog (she gravitates towards people over dogs) or with a submissive dog (who won’t mind her headstrong nature). Her experiences in life and near starvation have made her protective of her food bowl around other dogs so this is also something to be aware of. We recommend feeding her separately if there are other animals in the house. In time, when she is in a secure, safe environment this may be self-correcting. Age: 3 years Weight: 46 lbs Vetting: Up-to-date on vaccines, spayed and heartworm  negative and on prevention Temperament: Fine around other dogs but would prefer to be an only dog at home, or with a submissive dog.  Good with older, respectful kids, no cats.   Training, House trained, crate trained and good on leash  Email for questions: sonaligokhale@yahoo.com To ensure we're meeting both pet and adopters' needs, we ask potential adopters to complete an Adoption Application (www.bit.ly/DH-Adoption) for caretakers to review. Once your application is approved, we will bring the adoptable pet to your home for a preliminary visit. August 20, 2024, 8:57 am

Story
Meet Teddy Teddy is a pint-sized nugget with a lot of personality. He’s absolutely adorable in every way. We rescued Teddy from an animal control. Same old story, the AC was full and euthanizing for space. Teddy was on his last day. We pulled him and brought him to the safety of our shelter where he’s been a bubbly, happy and delightful pup. Teddy is about a year old. He looks to be a Feist mix, perhaps with Parson Terrier. He weighs about 25 lbs., mostly leg lol! He has a soft brown coat, warm brown eyes and a docked tail. He LOVES people. His whole body wiggles and his eyes light up when he’s with his people. We think he’d do well with kids and the activity will keep him happy. He loves attention. He loves to play fetch. He runs with such joy it makes you feel good to see how much fun he’s having. Teddy loves other dogs. Teddy might enjoy another dog in the home to keep him company and play with. Teddy walks well on a leash. He likes going places, travels well in a car and is well-mannered. Teddy is smart and seems to already be potty-trained. Teddy has a lively demeanor. He’s super friendly and affectionate. He is energetic, but his playfulness will make for a fun and adventurous companion. His smaller size makes him a great ridealong companion and best buddy. Teddy gets excited when he sees a cat but is friendly with them. If you are looking for a small, hardy, healthy, happy, fun, sweet, smart, affectionate, playful and handsome young doggo to welcome to your heart and home, Teddy may be perfect for you. We sure think he’s perfect. If interested in Teddy, please submit an application online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. If you don’t receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://smithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoptions and meet and greets are being scheduled by appointment only. Please call our office, email us or complete an application and someone will be in touch just as soon as they can.
