Story
Billy is a sweet and gentle 7 year old flat coated retriever! He is a sweet and gentle boy who loves everyone he meets. He is great with cats, dogs and kids! His favorite thing to do is go on a walk or play with a stuffed toy. He enjoys giving kisses and getting pets! He loves taking a snooze and is a perfect companion for someone looking for a low maintenance dog :) He currently weighs about 52 pounds, but is on a weight loss journey and will probably get down to around 45 pounds, making him the perfect medium sized pup!

These pups are in Sarasota, Florida too!

Story
I rescued Bowie during the Covid lockdown. She was 10-weeks-old. I had another dog already, but his housemate died of old age a few months before I adopted Bowie. She is now 5-yrs-old. She is a great dog who loves people, a true lover who always wants to snuggle and be by your side. She started behaving aggressively with my other dog a year ago. It was only when company was visiting, she gets jealous of the other dog getting attention. It started out with just growling, but I have now had to separate them from bad fights 4 times. Today was the worst. I thought one of them was going to die. This was the first time a fight broke out with just me being home (it was over our neighbor’s dog saying hello through the fence). Bowie is an amazing dog, but she cannot live in a home with other pets or children. And I am a 64-yr-old widow who can’t handle the fear and risk of having them do this again. Bowie is eager to learn and listens and is such a lover. I am heartbroken.

Story
Peppy is ready to move on to her furever home. Satchel's rescued Peppy from Animal Services in the fall of 2017, so she has been a shelter dog for a long time. This poor girl was a starvation case and learning to trust people came a little hard for her. Thanks to our caring staff and volunteers, she is now able to live her life again, without constant fear of being abandoned or mistreated. While Peppy can be a little uneasy on first greeting, it doesn't take long for her charming personality to show through. Once she knows you, she is perhaps one of the sweetest little characters in the shelter. She is definitely a comedian. She loves a good game of catch me if you can and loves rolling on her back and playing "patty cake". She also believes she is a lap dog, despite her 50 pound size. She may be 11 years of age, but she certainly doesn't act it. She also adores car rides. She will, however, try her hardest to sit shotgun. She also does great with other dogs. Peppy will likely always need some maintenance for her skin and ears. She is currently on Apoquel and gets Cytopoint when she get a major flare up. Her ears have always been a source of discomfort and unfortunately she does not like anyone messing with them. Her ears need in office vet care when she has flare ups. We know Peppy is the perfect dog for someone. If you think maybe that someone could be you, please submit your application (no commitment) found on our website, at Satchelslastresort.org.

Story
* SPECIAL NEEDS - ANXIETY * Bernie is an interesting little fellow with enough quirks to keep you guessing for a life time. He comes off as very shy but he loves to meet people. When he knows his favorite volunteers are at Satchel's, you can guarantee Bernie will let them know with an excited bark and stretches saying "it's time to go!" Bernie has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's and has become a big explorer and the longer the walk, car ride or adventure, the better, though sometimes he doesn't want to come back, and will stop and sit in protest. He adores running and traveling so if you take morning jogs, train for marathons, or travel across country, Bernie would be your perfect partner. He is gentle with his toys, and has no problem sharing his things with you. Bernie loves all life and has only shown adoration or curiosity with whatever comes his way. He is also a BIG time water dog, playing in the pool, splashing in a puddle, or even attempting to cool off in his water bowl, H2O is the way to go! Although not a big boy, Bernie is a fence jumper/climber and can scale a 6 foot fence without hesitation making leaving him alone in a yard for even a few minutes not an option. Bernie suffers with a severe anxiety disorder. He takes medication for his anxiety but still has panic attacks from time to time. He is looking for a home with a patient, loving family who will be there to help him through the "bad" times. Just 6 years old, with so much love to give, this amazing pup is just waiting for that special person who will keep him feeling safe and loved. If you think you have the time and patience to give Bernie his forever home, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will set up an appointment for you to meet this special boy.
