Meet Dora! Name: Dora Age: ~8 months Gender: Female Weight: 19 kg / 41 lbs Breed: Flat-Coated Retriever Mix Color: Black Health & Wellness Spayed/Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Heartworm Negative: Yes Personality & Behavior Good with dogs? Yes! Dora loves playing with other dogs. She’s still learning to trust new dogs, especially if they approach her with high energy. Resource guarding? Yes—best to feed separately during the trial period if she’s joining a multi-dog home. Bark/Noisy? No—Dora is generally quiet. Good with kids? Yes! Good with cats? No. Shedding? Yes—regular grooming and brushing are needed. Energy Level? Medium—Dora thrives on interactive activities like fetch and running with her dog friends. Daily exercise is a must to keep her fit and mentally stimulated. Training & Adaptability ‍ Leash-trained? Yes! She enjoys walks, especially when she gets to carry her own leash. Good in the car? Yes! She rides well on long trips but hesitates to jump in. With treats and encouragement, she’s learning to trust the process. Potty-trained? Yes! She follows daycare rules but will need time to adjust to a new home’s routine. Crate-trained? Yes, mainly for air travel. Daily Life & Preferences Where does she stay when alone? Dora currently stays in a kennel at an outdoor facility, where she enjoys socializing with other dogs but also seeks personal space to rest. If left alone indoors, she shouldn’t be left for prolonged periods (ideally 4–6 hours). Providing chew toys will help keep her entertained. Where does she sleep? She’s used to sleeping in a designated kennel area at her daycare but prefers sleeping outdoors, especially in warm weather. Temperament & Personality Dora embodies the best qualities of a Flat-Coated Retriever mix—she’s friendly, optimistic, intelligent, and eager to please. She thrives on human companionship and has an incredible ability to sense emotions, making her a fantastic companion. She’s always up for an adventure, whether it’s playing with her favorite toys, running like there’s no tomorrow, or splashing in water—she’s a true water lover! Ideal Home Dora would thrive with an active individual or family who includes her in their outdoor adventures. She gets along well with kids and other dogs, making her a great family pet. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, water-obsessed pup with a heart full of joy, Dora is the perfect match! Rescue Story Dora wandered into a carpentry shop in Tonalá, Jalisco, Mexico, spreading joy wherever she went. A true ambassador of happiness, she survived by visiting local businesses, charming everyone she met. But the streets are no place for a star like her! A rescuer stepped in just in time to give her the chance at a better life. Dora is currently in Mexico and will travel to her forever home once a family commits to a 10-day trial. Location: Mexico (waiting for adoption) Adoption Fee: $600 Apply at: www.northwestwagrescue.org ##2349906##

Story
HI - I'M DOMINO! I'm a 5- to 7-year-old black Lab/Shepherd mix (could be younger - that was just the shelter's estimate) in need of a foster or forever home! I'm confused why nobody has chosen me, as I'm sweet, dog friendly and in good health! I was rescued from a crowded California shelter awhile back, and while there I had multiple kennel mates. I am a nice, active, loving boy who would do well with an active person or people who can take me for walks, hikes and other outings. I weigh about 59 lbs. Can you foster or adopt me? Please email for an application.

Story
APPLICATION LINK: https://shaynesrescue.com/adoption-application-pet-central-satx/ We must have an application to move forward. Sugar is about 1 yr old (DOB 9/1/23), 21” tall at the shoulder and 33’ long from base of tail to her nose. She now weighs 51#. Her fur is soft and shiny, We think she is a Lab mix…according to the vet. She is a dog needing special care because she is 100% deaf. She gets along great in life depending on other dogs to know when they’re being called for dinner, etc. She is bright and happy and she has been taught a few hand signals for commands. The most difficult part is that you can’t depend on sound to get her attention. Here are the foster’s comments about her personality and behavior: This beautiful young female, Sugar, was a stray who showed up on my acreage in the fall of 2024. Over the course of several days, I could see that she was trying to eat the bark off my trees and was starving. Over the next few days, I put out a bowl of kibble every day. Sugar was leery of my presence and I was leery of hers but I was determined to help her, to rescue her and to find her the loving forever-home I knew she deserved. As it turns out, both of our sense of hesitation was completely unfounded and, from the first day after I contained her in my fenced yard, Sugar, my five other dogs, my husband, and I became the best of friends. Personality/Behavior: * Very gentle, very loving, very peaceful, wants to please her human * Very intelligent, intuitive, interactive and responsive * Responds well to men and women equally * Got along very well with my five other dogs from the first day I found her (male Siberian Husky, male Australian Shepherd, male Pekingese, female Rat Terrier and female French Bulldog) * Intuitively knows which of my dogs she can play with and to what degree * Submissive and respectful to other dogs and people; responds to boundaries * So far, Sugar has been an outdoor dog but I believe she will make a fabulous indoor/outdoor companion in the future * Sugar only barks when she sees a stranger, a deer coming too close the fence, etc. Sugar barks for "good reasons"; she does not bark just to bark. Because she is deaf, Sugar, generally, barks at things she can see and not hear. For example, Sugar does not bark when other dogs bark, when ambulances drive by, fireworks, etc. * Learned how to sit with me using hand signals and treats * I do not know if Sugar is potty-trained because I have not let her in the house. Sugar has never gone to the bathroom in her very large partition nor on the concrete patio. Sugar has only ever gone to the bathroom in the far side of the very large fenced grassy area along with my dogs. I suspect Sugar will learn to be potty-trained very quickly if she is not potty-trained already. * Has never jumped up on people * Very well behaved, smart and has a lot of potential for further training Best Suited For: * Active family who can take Sugar on regular walks * Someone with patience who can work with a deaf dog and who is able to train Sugar to be able to live inside * Sugar is not hyperactive nor does she have the personality traits of a working breed (eg. Siberian Husky). Sugar will thrive in an environment with average activity. This dog is CURRENTLY IN TEXAS and available for pre-adoption. Adoptions include neuter/spay, vaccinations (DHPP, Bordetella, Rabies), microchip, health certificate, transport with our professional dog transporter, and 6 mos of heart worm prevention. Story
APPLICATION LINK: https://shaynesrescue.com/adoption-application-pet-central-satx/ We must have an application to move forward. In foster in Tumwater, Wa. WE will update when we know he is for sure totally potty trained, we do not yet know. He does NOT make any messes in his crate! TOFU was a very lucky big dog that was discovered at ACS…and we could see he has a great loving personality. He gets along with other dogs without a problem. TOFU is 66# and DOB is 12/1/23. We consider him a Lab/Hound mix. He is happy and loves people (see picture). He is a bit over rambunctious with cats but just wanting to play. He does need training but that’s the fun part of having a dog. Please be his forever home… Give him a second chance. He’ll be great with a family who wants a dog to go with them to the lake, taking hikes, mountain trails, etc. We saved him from the kill list in a TX shelter, He was in boarding where they adored him till rescue had an opening. Story
APPLICATION LINK: https://shaynesrescue.com/adoption-application-pet-central-satx/ We must have an application to move forward. KONA is a special dog that needs one-on-one attention/training. She is very sweet but a bit shy to people. She walks ok on the leash but her habit is to have her nose to the ground anywhere she goes. I had an experienced person here review her and says she definitely has the "hunting" capability. She is sweet and would be fine with older children if they know how to calm and gentle with her. DOB 11/1/23; 47# This dog is CURRENTLY IN TEXAS and available for pre-adoption.
