Story
Hear what Woody's foster has to say about him! Woody is a wonderful companion who walks exceptionally well on a leash, which is fantastic because he absolutely LOVES taking long walks. These walks are also typically his preferred time to go potty. Although I’ve had limited success with the fenced yard I created for him, I’m continuing to work on that. While there were a few accidents in the house early on, I believe it was mostly due to nerves and adjusting to his new environment. Woody is also sensitive to wind and rain, so on those days, he prefers shorter walks and uses potty pads indoors (who would want to potty in a storm??). Woody knows several basic commands like sit, paw, off, come, and stay. He’s been very friendly with everyone he meets and has done well with guests and increased activity in the house, although he tends to prefer a quieter environment. When it comes to other dogs, Woody has done well with those we’ve encountered during our walks. However, those interactions have been brief, so it’s hard to determine whether he’d be comfortable living with other dogs in a home setting. Woody does have some resource guarding tendencies, so I’d recommend he not be in a home with small children. We are working on this, along with his crate training, which is improving gradually. Some days he does great with his crate, while other days are more challenging. Overall, Woody is a sweet and loving pup about 97% of the time, but the remaining 3% can make him unpredictable. As shelter dogs often have past trauma, this is understandable. Without knowing his full background, I’m still learning what may trigger him, which is why I’ve enlisted the help of a private trainer to address the resource guarding, crate training, and his fear-based behaviors. Woody truly is a loving dog who enjoys ear scratches and will happily lay at your feet to "claim" you if you let him. With the right care, he’s sure to make a wonderful addition to the right family.

*** To alleviate the need to bring an animal into the shelter environment, The Anti-Cruelty Society has the Home-to-Home Shelter Bypass service to help people find new accommodations for their pets privately. These animals are not located in any of the Society`s physical locations. If you are interested in adopting this animal, please do NOT click the Adopt Me button and instead reach out to the current owner directly via the email provided in the profile. As this is a Home-to-Home animal you are not required to fill out an Anti-Cruelty Society adoption application form. ***She is a calm and really, really sweet girl who likes attention- For the most part, she’s content on one of her two large K9 Ballistics beds (we have oneon our main living level and one in our bedroom/Morgan’s office)- She’s a sporting dog and needs to get her energy out! We currently take her for two1-mile+ walks per day around the park- She is innately a rodent hunter and is very attracted to squirrels and rabbits onour walks- She’s good with other dogs (respectful and curious on our walks; reports from boardingare that she enjoys running with the other medium-sized dogs during the day)- Up-to-date on all vaccines- She is potty-trained- She is crate-trained- Until moving to Chicago in July, she’d slept in her crate at night on our main livinglevel- Since moving, she’s slept on her bed on the main living level or, more often, onher bed in our bedroom- She has separation anxiety and has a really hard time when we leave the house; she’llbark, often continuously, while we’re out of the house- Morgan and I both work at home- We normally give her Trazodone any time we leave the house for a couple hoursat a time, which seems to helpFor adoption information, please email wenzel.cole@gmail.com

Story
Adopted by us in Oct. ‘22 from NAWS; she was a stray from Kansas. Est. age at time of adoption was 2 yo (~4.5 yo now). Did 3 wk “board and train” with My Canine Sports in Nov. ‘22. Heartworm discovered in early ‘24 (initial testing by NAWS was negative); treated for it by Companion Animal in Oak Park. Microflora no longer present. We moved from Oak Park to city (Chicago) in July ‘24. Vaccines up to date. Potty- and crate-trained (used to sleep in crate, since moving in July sleeps on her dog bed in our bedroom). Calm, really sweet. Likes attention. Sporting dog, needs to get energy out! Two 1+ mile walks per day. Good w/ other dogs. Separation anxiety (both work at home). Give Trazodone if we leave for a few hours. Has shown possessiveness of "mom and dad" when we give attention to kids We want Lou to find a home to give her more than we can right now. We feel a home with adults and/or older children would be best suited to give and receive the love that Lou deserves and gives.
