`Thank you for being a friend . . . . ` That is what all the dogs that have been paired in a kennel with Americus have to say about this young Golden Girl! That`s because she`s the bestest roomie and sweetest friend and every one of her kennel mates has been adopted or fostered. Our 2-year old girl needs a family of her own. This Boxer mix is sweet and family friendly with a tail that wags for days! She enjoys walks and is playful, but loves to cuddle and be near her people for belly rubs! *Americus Nation is currently not living at the shelter but still available for adoption so please email asoanimaladoption@austintexas.gov for next steps, if you are interested in meeting him!*--Did you know that we completely cover the cost of heartworm treatment? Friendly, fun-loving, intelligent, young Bandito is wishing hard for a home of his own! He'd love to be your best hiking buddy as you set off for new adventures. And he'll be just as happy to get back home for a snack and a cozy nap. He loves toys, knows how to sit, walks nicely on leash, can catch treats in the air, and lights up when he knows he has pleased his person. He's also good in a crate! While he appreciates his shelter friends (and we love him to pieces), he is more than ready to say goodbye to his cramped shelter kennel and say hello to the love and fun of a real home. He previously has lived successfully with dogs; but will need a meet-and-greet to ensure he and your dog will make a great team.

Meet Alfie! He is a 3-year-old American Foxhound mix who is looking for a forever family. Alfie was transferred to us from another local rescue after he, unfortunately, didn't succeed at becoming a service dog. His previous owners say that he is so smart and loves to learn new things! The only reason he didn't qualify as a service dog was due to having "happy tail" - a condition where a happy dog can get an injury due to wagging their tail too much. After multiple attempts to save it, Alfie's tail was amputated to prevent him from being in constant pain from this condition, and he is now an even happier dog who will be a great addition to his forever family! Due to his service dog training, Alfie knows all basic commands like sit, down, stay, and release. He is super treat-motivated and would love to continue learning in his new home! Alfie does well with kids and other dogs and loves to cuddle up with his favorite people.
