Story
Max is a super sweet 2 year old, neutered male. He is a great snuggler and loves hugs. Good with other animals and kids. Max came to us in May, as a rescue my sister had found. We love him, but Max requires a large fenced in yard, which we do not have..

Story
Anya is a loving and active 3yo German Shepherd. She needs to find a space ASAP without any other dogs/animals (non-negotiable) with an experienced dog person who can help her with anxiety and reactivity. She is not spayed but has an appointment to get spayed for 8/16. She is currently fostered/boarded at the shelter where her foster works, but this scenario is not helping Anya improve and we cannot bring her home to our own dogs. Shelters/rescues in DE are locked down due to the canine respiratory virus outbreak so her options are very limited. She came into foster after her previous parents divorced and neither wanted to keep their dogs. The dog she lived with previously has been rehomed and she has been a safety risk with other dogs since she came into foster. She is very sweet with people, and adores water. I can provide more details and contact information for serious inquiries only. Anya is a special case and needs to find a special person with a quiet home to be her best self!

Story
ABOUT RUSTY Looking for a loyal, lovable Shepherd? Meet Rusty! This handsome boy is a 6-year-old Shepherd mix that LOVES people! Rusty came to HAP when he was found as a stray. We attempted to contact his owners, but unfortunately, they did not come for him. Despite being in a new place, Rusty quickly made friends with our staff and volunteers. In typical shepherd nature, he is very talented at holding a conversation and letting you know what's on his mind. He'll do anything for a game a fetch, and yes, he brings the ball back every time! He's a very smart boy and motivated to learn more tricks. Rusty is leash-trained, house-trained, and knows basic commands. If you're looking for a big boy, with an even bigger heart, then come meet Rusty! While he's only been with us for a short time, he has been out in our Doggy Day Out program nearly a dozen volunteers already! Here's what our volunteers have to say about him: "We had a wonderful day with Rusty yesterday. We took him to visit my parents and he really warms up to people quickly. He has such a pleasant demeanor. We proceeded to take him to the pet store to pick out a treat. He was so well behaved, didn't grab anything and sniffed around the store. We came home to play fetch then relaxed for a bit. He is extremely well trained and terrific with commands. Then we took him for a nice walk. He doesn't pull at all and listens to commands while walking. Rusty would make an excellent addition to any family. He is very loyal to people, extremely gentle and loves to play. This was our second time taking Rusty out and he is just a great dog." - Beth "My friend and I got to take Rusty out today and he is just the sweetest boy! We went for a long walk, and then headed home to play in the backyard. Rusty walked amazing on leash, didn't pull once and stayed right by my side! When we got back, he spent over an hour loving the chance to run around and play fetch. He's really good at always bringing the ball back, he quickly realized if he dropped it we'd throw it again. When we were headed back, he zonked out in the car after all the running around and barely woke up for his pup cup. He was such a sweet boy to spend the day with!" - Kristiana **Rusty is seeking a home as the only pet! ***Rusty is currently in foster with children, doing amazing! He is available for adoption by-appointment! If you are interested in adopting Rusty, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Hello, My name is Raya! I am a 9 mos. old Aussie/GSD blend, but I take after my German mom the most. I am female, 56 lbs, recently spayed, utd on shots, on heart worm preventative and flea/tick medicine, and full of energy and play! Check out my pretty blue eye! I came to ASF with several of my siblings with very little socialization. So, as a result, we were very scared when strangers came and took us away and separated us when our human mom got very sick. Now, I am very happy-go-lucky in my foster home with my pack siblings and my human family. I am still very much a puppy with loads of puppy energy to burn, and love to give. I forget my manners sometimes and use my mouth to get your attention/play with you or jump up to greet you. I am not trying to hurt anyone, I just get too excited and my foster mom keeps reminding me to settle down. I love toys and will go from one to another to another, so I need a BIG toy box. This is my "me" time, when I entertain myself. I love to play with the resident puppers,... There are 5 of them! We all get along, and I have different play styles with each of them. I am house broken to a doggy door and take myself outside when I need to go. I am very good and clean in my crate and quietly sleep all night. I have a loud, low, deep bark that I use to alert you if some strange noise or movement occurs. I will also bark at the other pups if they ignore me when I try to play. I need room to run! A fenced in yard is a good idea to keep me safe, because if I get the zoomies or interested in something new I often have selective hearing. I learn things quickly and will try my best to understand what you ask of me. Foster mom is teaching me to sit, down, shake, place, touch, off, wait, and bedtime. I am a big clutzy girl at times and I may be too much for small kiddos. Maybe teens would be better friends for me. Believe me, I am a very good girl in my foster home, but I have a very nervous side when we leave the house/yard. I ride ok in the car, but I prefer shotgun, so I can be close to you. It can be a bit scary for me. Strange places and strangers put me on the defensive. I bark and retreat. My adopters will need to be super patient with me and allow me to approach them. Forced contact, like at the vet for an exam, really upsets me, and I have "air snapped" to warn people away. We try to go to pup friendly places just to get used to being around others, and I have gotten a lil better, but still a fraidy cat. My foster mom has given me meds to relax me when I have to go see those scary people that poke me with sharp needles and check my ears and eyes etc... I am still very reluctant to allow them near me. Foster mom had family come in for a visit that stayed in the house with us. Even though she liked them and told me they were ok, it still took about 3 full days for me to accept them. They basically ignored me until I felt they could be trusted. Then I was good for pets, but I still barked at them when they appeared. Another patient dog to play with, and continue to school me in how to be a good pack member will be key in my growth in my new home/family. If you are patient with me,... once I trust you, and feel safe, I have lots of love to give, laughter to share, and loyalty beyond measure. Foster mom says that in my current home with those that I know and am comfortable with, I am a confident happy pup, and you would never know that anywhere else that I would be fearful. I just need time and patience. I have a great amount of potential and will bond tightly to those that have the calm, relaxed understanding I need to get to know them. Multiple meet and greets will be needed for Raya. If she sounds perfect for you, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $50 REFUNDABLE spay deposit that will be refunded upon proof of spay and a $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new family.
