Story
After five months in the shelter, Sasha came into foster care on August 12, 2024, to start heartworm treatment. She’s now heartworm-free and ready for her forever home, but she still hasn’t received a single application. At approximately 7 years old, Sasha still has plenty of energy but tires a little faster due to past heartworm damage. This doesn’t stop her from living a happy, active life—she just needs a pet home, not a working one. She’s potty and crate trained, ball-obsessed, and loves her daily walks. Sasha is a total shadow dog—she’ll follow you everywhere and soak up all the love you give her. She’s friendly with strangers, has zero guarding instincts, and is calm and well-mannered inside the home. She’s not a couch dog, but when she’s not playing, she’ll nap near you on her dog bed. Like most German Shepherds, Sasha thrives on routine and structure. She adjusts well to new environments with consistency, mental stimulation, and patience. She does great in the car but can be anxious in unfamiliar places at first. She cannot live with cats or small dogs due to her high prey drive. A soft, tolerant large dog may be okay, but only with an experienced handler. Otherwise, she’d be happiest as the only pet. Sasha is a loyal, affectionate girl who just needs someone to give her a chance. She comes with basic obedience training, a month of heartworm/flea/tick prevention, and lifelong training support. Located in Jacksonville, FL but willing to travel up to 4 hours for the right home. For more up to date information on this dog please go to our website @ https://www.playk9rescue.org/adopt-a-dog The adoption fee for this pet covers the cost of care and training which may have been for several weeks or several months depending on the health and training needs. The fee also covers all vet bills during this time to ensure his/her health is improved or maintained and provides you with assurance that this dog has been well cared for while in our possession and evaluated to meet your home's needs. Included in this fee is also life- long training support provided by PLAY! K9 Academy located in Bradenton, FL as well as Life time microchip registration. When you adopt from a local shelter, you may not receive any medical history for this dog nor will you receive any behavioral history. We hope you understand that the minimal adoption fee we are asking is to continue our mission to rescue unwanted herding and working breeds from shelters/owners and get them adopted to their forever home. Please note, we will not approve an adoption to individuals or families residing in rental apartments. Typically, apartment complexes have pet policies on restricted breeds and weights which includes German Shepherd Dogs, Belgian Malinois, bully breeds, etc. These dog breeds are not breeds that will thrive in an apartment setting regardless of the management pet policy. Our adoption policy is non-negotiable.

Story
Although she is somewhat shy with strangers, Mieli has been coming out of her shell as she experiences new people and places. She is progressing consistently meeting new people as long as it's done calmly and slowly. This brindle beauty is eight years young and loves long walks, enjoying quieter places without lots of activity and commotion. Although she walks well on leash, it is suggested to use a harness which gives her added security and also helps the handler with any potential pulling. She adores car rides and soft music and would make a great long-distance traveler. She is very food motivated and is learning to sit patiently as she shows off her silly one sided smile anticipating that special treat. Once she trusts you, she will be a faithful companion and will adore snuggling up by your side and getting tummy rubs. She loves to watch you with her soulful eyes and the tip of her tail moves joyously when you speak to her. If you are interested in meeting Meili and watching the light beam from her eyes, please fill out an adoption application (no commitment) at Satchelslastresort.org.

Story
We love a good comeback story, and this guy is the definition of the comeback kid! 💪 Last week we shared our old man Dexter, a ten year old Dutch Shepherd who we’d recently taken in. We became aware of Dexter a few weeks ago after one of our vet friends reached out asking if we could help him. Dex was in bad shape and she knew he needed our help. When Dexter arrived to his foster home, our hearts literally shattered. Bad shape really was an understatement - he was severely underweight, missing fur, covered in bloody sores, one of his ears had curled down to half its size due to infection, and his spirit was quite literally broken. He was just a shell of a dog, but we knew we could get him fixed up in time. After only a day with us we started to get glimpses of the real Dexter - the Dexter who doesn’t spend his entire life in a crate, the Dexter who is loved and cared for, the Dexter we knew he could be. We have thrown every possible resource his way, and he truly is a different dog now. He is still on his healing journey - his skin has a ways to go and he still needs to gain about 10lbs - but he is LIGHTYEARS better than he was when we first met him. And so much of that is thanks to the generous donations from our L4P family!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Dex is a very typical Dutch Shepherd and please do not let his age fool you into thinking he’s just an old boy. He absolutely needs a family with experience with Dutchies, Mals, or other high energy, high drive working breeds. Dexter is not the dog for a first time dog owner, and we are in no rush to place him until we find the perfect family for him. He would do best as an only dog unless his family has the ability to give him individual attention. He is not a big fan of small children, but would be fine with late elementary school aged kids or older. Absolutely no cats or other small prey-like animals. Dexter is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and Heartworm negative. He is fostered in Parrish, Florida and his adoption fee is $250. If you think you might be the right family for our comeback kid, please complete an adoption application at the link below or email us at info@love4pawsfl.org! https://www.love4pawsfl.org/adoption-process
