Story
Blue was recently returned to TJO due to his previous owner's medical needs changing. He was extremely well loved, but unfortunately became a bit too much to handle for the future. He's been noted to be a strong puller on leash, and has occassionally torn up various objects when left alone. Historically, Blue has been wary of new environments, but warms up quickly. With a little love and support from his new family, Blue will feel safe showing them how awesome he is.OTHER PETS:Blue is cautious in new environments, and cowered when corrected by another dog. He would do well with a sociable, confident dog who would help him feel safe in his new home. When comfortable with other dogs, though, he's a little pushy with his play. He's a big dog--and he plays like it. As with all our dogs, Blue should meet any dogs he would be living with prior to adoption. [Case-by-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE:Blue will benefit from someone with calm confidence in their dog handling abilities--especially someone who has previous experience with shepherds. With his owner to patiently show him the way, Blue will be on track to live his best life. [Some Experience]KIDS:According to his previous owner, Blue has been great with kids! As always, however, he would still need to meet any children he may be living with before adoption. He would likely do best with children who will be understanding and respectful of his quirks. [Likely (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL:Blue will do best with daily walks, possibly multiple daily walks, to give him a chance to get exercise and explore the world around him. With an investment in further training and confidence building, Blue might find that he enjoys more intense activities like hiking. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE:[Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED:Blue has learned quite a few cues and skills during his time with his previous owner, so he's already got a head start on training! As he is still a lot of dog to handle, though, there's still plenty of opportunity for him to continue learning. Positive reinforcement training will help Blue bond with his new owner and build his confidence, while also helping to ensure that Blue has mastered his basic commands. [Moderate]GROOMING:Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the house, as well as ensure that his fur doesn't develop any knots or matts. Story
Meet Larimar and Jayuya! Two spirited 20-month-old Siberian Husky/Shepherd Mix sisters from Puerto Rico, whose boundless energy and affectionate nature are wrapped in uniquely stunning coats! Larimar, the lighter of the two, weighs 35 pounds and sports a gorgeous grey and white fur with one mesmerizing blue eye, reminiscent of the crystal she's named after. Her sister, Jayuya, is a bit bigger at 45 pounds, showcasing a sleek black coat accented with white toes and a striking white blaze. These two adventurous souls are ready to bring joy and laughter to their forever home! These sisters are inseparable playmates, spending hours each day wrestling, chasing, and playing together. They absolutely love water, whether it’s splashing in rivers or racing along the beach. Their playful antics include chasing lizards, chewing on bones, and engaging in epic wrestling matches. While they haven’t received formal obedience training, they know basic commands like “sit,” “leave it,” and “come” (though their enthusiasm can sometimes make them selective listeners). Both Larimar and Jayuya are spayed, up to date on vaccinations, house-trained, and ready to integrate seamlessly into a new home! They thrive on consistent exercise and a balanced diet. Despite their medium energy level, Larimar and Jayuya are incredibly affectionate and friendly to strangers, other dogs, and young children. They don’t exhibit any behavioral issues and are always overjoyed to see their humans return home. Their playful spirits and desire for human approval make them endearing companions who will melt your heart with their love and loyalty! Ideally, Larimar and Jayuya are looking for a home with ample outdoor space where they can explore nature and continue their playful adventures. They need a family who can provide kind and consistent parenting, ensuring they thrive in their new environment. These sisters are more than ready to embark on a journey anywhere along the East Coast for their forever home. They are set to arrive in Great Barrington, MA, in August or September bringing with them the vibrant energy of Puerto Rico! Are you ready to welcome double the joy and double the love into your life with Larimar and Jayuya? They can’t wait to meet you and become a cherished part of your family. For more information or to adopt these delightful sisters, please contact us at adopt@joyfulpets.com! Story
Meet Dexter! A dignified eleven-year-old German Shepherd/Collie mix from Broomall, PA, whose spirit radiates the same youthful joy as a puppy wrapped in a gorgeous tan coat. Dexter is the epitome of loyalty and obedience, a gentle giant who knows his commands—sit, stay, come, and go—like the back of his paw! His intelligence and training make him a joy to have by your side, and he's always eager to show off his good manners. Despite being a senior, Dexter’s zest for life is boundless! He might be blind and living with diabetes, requiring two insulin shots a day, but that doesn’t stop him from embracing every day with a wagging tail and a playful attitude! Dexter loves nothing more than a good chew toy or bone and relishes his daily walks. While dog parks might be a bit overwhelming for him, a quiet stroll through the neighborhood or some quality time lounging in the yard are more his speed. Dexter’s calm and composed demeanor shines through, especially when he's left alone for short periods—he’s perfectly fine and content on his own, though he’ll be overjoyed when you return. Dexter’s blindness hasn’t dimmed his spirit. In fact, it’s made him an even more loving and constant companion! He may not see, but he navigates life with a remarkable sense of trust and love, making him a wonderful companion who’ll stay by your side through thick and thin. He’s friendly to strangers, good with young children, and neutral towards other dogs—he’s the type who’s happy just being around, soaking up the companionship without demanding the spotlight. His ideal new family would be patient, loving, and understanding of his special needs, embracing his daily routine and appreciating his steadfast loyalty. Dexter is ready to bring endless joy and unwavering companionship to a new home, and he’s eagerly waiting to meet a pet parent who can match his gentle, loving nature. Are you the one who can give Dexter the forever home he needs? If so, he’s ready to become your most loyal friend and constant companion. Contact us at adopt@joyfulpets.com to meet Dexter today!
