Story
Sara is a 2 yr old, 51# female German shepherd mix. She is very affectionate, and very smart and attentive to her foster family. She loves to run and play with other dogs (a fenced yard would be great), but doesn’t like cats. Sara does well with respectful kids; can be shy with strangers at first, but warms up quickly. Her leash manners are fairly good, but she will pull if she sees a critter or another dog. Although she doesn’t bark at other dogs or people during her walks, she will do some alert barking at home. Being a young dog, she is energetic and will need some form of regular exercise, and having another dog to run around the yard with would help meet this need; afterwards, she is relaxed and ready for some cuddle time (she loves pets and scratches). Sara can entertain herself by hiding toys in the yard, and finding them later – she enjoys playing with toys and chewing on bones. She is house trained, and has never had to be kenneled – she’s good being alone for 5-6 hrs. but prefers to have someone at home with her. For training and correction, she responds well with rewards of treats and praise. Sara came to us from an out-of-town animal shelter where she had presented as an injured stray, so we don’t have any history on her. She likely had been hit by a car because she had cuts and abrasions, and wasn’t weight bearing on her left hind leg. X-rays indicated a luxated hip joint, and in February of this year had an FHO (femoral head ostectomy) on that left hip. After rest, physical therapy, and hydrotherapy, an X-ray re-check in mid March looked good and she uses her leg without any limping . She has no activity restrictions, and can be as active as she wants. Sara was vaccinated, spayed, and her heartworm test and tick profile are negative. Her microchip is registered to Second Chance. Sara has a $375 adoption fee. Please call 651-771-5662 if you are interested in Sara.

Story
Snapshot of Trooper: Size: Large, 75lbs Activity Level: High Noise Level: moderate barking but quiet in the house Good with Dogs: yes Good with Cats: unknown Good with Kids: No Good with Strangers: Skittish and slow introduction but warms up quickly. Potty Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Shedding: Yes Hi my name is Trooper: I think I'm pretty much a pure German Shepard but its tough to tell because nobody knows where I came from. I was found on the streets, severely underweight and in pretty bad shape, but finally got taken into rescue and was given some much-needed love and care. During this whole journey, they told me that I am likely about 3.5 years old and although I was skinny at the time, they helped me get back to a normal weight of about 75lbs. Being on the streets made me pretty weary of new people, so I am not a huge fan of strangers and don't like being approached. Because of this, I don't think I would do the best around young kids; however, after you give me some time to check you out, I do warm up quick. I haven't been around many cats, but I do know that I am a fan of playing with the dog friends my family has introduced me to. Aside from some of my skittish behaviors and fear towards new people, I actually am very smart. My foster parents tell me that I am one of the smartest dogs they know and love making me do all these ridiculous things. I know the basic commands like sit, shake, stay, and lay down, but also know a few others like when to place on my mat and can go to my kennel when being told...usually. I also am big fan of play wrestling with my foster parents but am still working on calming myself down when they tell me they're done. I can get a little mouthy (I call them teeth kisses) but have learned that this is a bad trait to have, so I have been working hard to stop doing that as well. I can definitely keep up with an energetic lifestyle and love to play and go on walks. When I am not playing, I don't mind lounging around. I typically like staying near my people and making sure I know what is happening at all times, and definitely love some cuddles and belly scratches. Overall, I know there are some things I need to work on, but I am convinced that if someone can continue to work with me, I can make a great companion. I love being outside so would love a place where I can still explore the yard and have room to run around. I wouldn't mind sharing a house with another pup as long as they can manage playing rough sometimes. While I might not do great in a crazy home with kids and tons of new people, I would love to be someone's buddy for life. Trooper is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for his age. Adoption Fee: $100 + applicable tax (discount sponsored by Twin Cities Pet Rescue) Trooper is currently on medication for skin allergies. With his reactivity and anxiety he will need further training and possibly medication to help him. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Bruce is a cheerful dog who thrives on love and attention. He delights in being pet and cherishes his stuffed toys. Preferring the proximity of his foster family, he happily follows them around the house, providing quiet companionship. A crate is uncomfortable for Bruce but when left alone he has run of the house and does very well just lounging around on his comfy dog bed. Bruce thrives in the company of other dogs, finding joy in social interactions, though he doesn't always like to share with his canine companions.   Check out this   video of Bruce at the lake. Bruce is very loving and gentle with the adults and kids in his family but is very cautious with friends and visitors that come to the house. With slow introductions and positive reinforcement over time he has allowed others into his circle.  Before entering rescue, Bruce was a neglected and debilitated dog, grappling with various health issues such as Lyme disease, a thyroid disorder, skin allergies, infections, and a sinus condition with a chronic unexplained cough. Through dedicated treatment and care, he has shown positive responses, but managing his well-being requires medications on both a daily and as-needed basis. Additionally, Bruce faces mobility challenges due to hip issues in both legs and a torn ACL in his right hind leg. While corrective FHO surgery is not currently an option due to his size and how difficult his recovery would be, his quality of life is good but depends on limited yet regular physical activity, close monitoring, joint supplements, and prescribed pain management. Despite his physical limitations, Bruce adeptly uses a ramp for entering and exiting vehicles, finding joy in car ride adventures and short outings outdoors. He is a happy dog with a tail that is always wagging! Bruce is best suited to an environment with limited or no stairs due to his mobility challenges. Hard surface flooring is a challenge for him. Bruce is currently taking the following medications: carprofen, apoquel and levothyroxine. Ready to fall in love? Come and meet Bruce today! Bruce is from one of our northern reservation partners. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hey there, I'm Diego! I'm thrilled to meet new folks and can't wait to meet you. My foster mom describes me as a big, friendly sweetheart, and people often compliment me on my looks. Mornings are my favorite, especially sitting on the deck with my foster mom, savoring the sounds of birds while she enjoys her coffee. I'm pretty skilled at going into my crate, although I'll express my discontent if I'm left out of the action when there's a lot of noise. I just want to join the fun! I do very well out of my crate at night and when my foster mom is at work, I stay busy snacking on my kong or napping. I'm well-versed in basic commands, sitting eagerly for treats and gently taking them. Toys are my passion! Whether it's stuffed, squeaky, or chewable, count me in. I'm even getting the hang of fetch. Leash training is a work in progress, but I'm improving. Walks help me burn energy, preparing me for cozy evenings on the couch with my humans. I'd happily be a lap dog when tired, settling for just being close to my people. If you want a handsome, clever companion who brings joy, I'm your match! Diego enjoys meeting new friends but may gently jump up, although a baby gate helps manage this. He interacted well with his Foster’s 8-year-old stepson and is gradually meeting the resident dog. Diego adores toys but needs supervision, as he may attempt to ingest stuffing. He's generally not destructive with toys and loves tug-of-war and squeakers. His adorable head tilt and smiling demeanor melt hearts. He's becoming more at ease, his wagging tail a testament to his comfort. Diego usually is ready for outdoor time and breakfast via a puzzle feeder around 7am. He's skilled at solving puzzles. He loves spending time with me on the deck. He gets breaks for leash training and spends evenings hanging out with me, relishing meeting new people. He's particularly fond of my stepson and often ends the day dozing on the couch. When relaxed, Diego crosses his front legs and showcases his endearing head tilt when listening. This handsome boy has a history of seizures and currently is taking daily medication. He is well controlled and we have not seen any seizures since entering rescue. Diego is from a local impound.
