Story
ABOUT RUSTY Looking for a loyal, lovable Shepherd? Meet Rusty! This handsome boy is a 6-year-old Shepherd mix that LOVES people! Rusty came to HAP when he was found as a stray. We attempted to contact his owners, but unfortunately, they did not come for him. Despite being in a new place, Rusty quickly made friends with our staff and volunteers. In typical shepherd nature, he is very talented at holding a conversation and letting you know what's on his mind. He'll do anything for a game a fetch, and yes, he brings the ball back every time! He's a very smart boy and motivated to learn more tricks. Rusty is leash-trained, house-trained, and knows basic commands. If you're looking for a big boy, with an even bigger heart, then come meet Rusty! While he's only been with us for a short time, he has been out in our Doggy Day Out program nearly a dozen volunteers already! Here's what our volunteers have to say about him: "We had a wonderful day with Rusty yesterday. We took him to visit my parents and he really warms up to people quickly. He has such a pleasant demeanor. We proceeded to take him to the pet store to pick out a treat. He was so well behaved, didn't grab anything and sniffed around the store. We came home to play fetch then relaxed for a bit. He is extremely well trained and terrific with commands. Then we took him for a nice walk. He doesn't pull at all and listens to commands while walking. Rusty would make an excellent addition to any family. He is very loyal to people, extremely gentle and loves to play. This was our second time taking Rusty out and he is just a great dog." - Beth "My friend and I got to take Rusty out today and he is just the sweetest boy! We went for a long walk, and then headed home to play in the backyard. Rusty walked amazing on leash, didn't pull once and stayed right by my side! When we got back, he spent over an hour loving the chance to run around and play fetch. He's really good at always bringing the ball back, he quickly realized if he dropped it we'd throw it again. When we were headed back, he zonked out in the car after all the running around and barely woke up for his pup cup. He was such a sweet boy to spend the day with!" - Kristiana **Rusty is seeking a home as the only pet! ***Rusty is currently in foster with children, doing amazing! He is available for adoption by-appointment! If you are interested in adopting Rusty, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Anya is a loving and active 3yo German Shepherd. She needs to find a space ASAP without any other dogs/animals (non-negotiable) with an experienced dog person who can help her with anxiety and reactivity. She is not spayed but has an appointment to get spayed for 8/16. She is currently fostered/boarded at the shelter where her foster works, but this scenario is not helping Anya improve and we cannot bring her home to our own dogs. Shelters/rescues in DE are locked down due to the canine respiratory virus outbreak so her options are very limited. She came into foster after her previous parents divorced and neither wanted to keep their dogs. The dog she lived with previously has been rehomed and she has been a safety risk with other dogs since she came into foster. She is very sweet with people, and adores water. I can provide more details and contact information for serious inquiries only. Anya is a special case and needs to find a special person with a quiet home to be her best self!

Max is a super sweet 2 year old, neutered male. He is a great snuggler and loves hugs. Good with other animals and kids. Max came to us in May, as a rescue my sister had found. We love him, but Max requires a large fenced in yard, which we do not have..

Story
Sasha fierce is four years old. She came from the Brick horde situation, so she is shy, but very sweet and loyal. She will need a little time to gain trust, but once you have it she will do anything for her person. She is lots of fun will do great with a confident, friendly dog. When you are her person or people you are her people. She is 100% crate trained and house broken. Sasha would do best in a home without small dogs and cats as she doesn’t realize her size. Sasha is a volunteer favorite and knows that her forever home is out there somewhere 🩷 If interested in adopting Sasha please fill out our application at mamasgonarescue.com
