Kai is the mama dog in our household. She is a tennis ball fanatic and absolutely loves playing in the water and kayaking with us, and loves every little kid she meets. Shes very smart and is more motivated by a tennis ball but treats work well too. Kennel trained and knows stay, leave it, heal, sit, lay down, play dead and is the most obedient dog we have. She had a litter of puppies 3 years ago and afterwards was aggressive towards other dogs. It has calmed down since then but you still have to watch her for the first 20 minutes or so of another dog being around. We stopped taking her to the dog park to play fetch when she got aggressive and we dont have a yard to play fetch in and this lack of exercise lead to some weight gain and hip pain the day after when she runs too hard. I believe this can get better with regular exercise. We are hoping to find a home with someone who has land and/or more time to walk with her and play fetch everyday.

Hi, hi, oh hi! My name is Bella and I am so happy to meet you. I am a five year old girl that weighs over eighty pounds. They think I am a German shepherd mix. I came to the rescue after my family was moving and they dropped me off at a city shelter where I could die. Lucky for me the rescue came and took me out of there. So I am looking for a safe, new home. I am a fun, water loving girl. I enjoy my people, cuddles and car rides. I have been around cats and will play with other dogs but am best suited as an only dog or have a male furry friend. I know how to use a doggie dog, am house trained and know my basic manners. I like to stay close to my people. Everyone has faults and mine is high value resource guarding. I absolutely think Kleenex and treats are very valuable and don’t want to give them up or share them. I have been working on it with a trainer and she can help you and me both. For those reasons I think small children are not a good match for my new home. I do enjoy activity like walking or playing ball but with my size I admit my endurance is low. I am curious and sometimes get distracted exploring new things. You know, I guess you could say I like to check out my surroundings. I have been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated (including canine influenza) and am current on my heartworm/flea & tick preventatives. My adoption fee is 150.00. Athena is a bit shy at first. She will sleep in her crate at night even though she sees our personal dogs on the bed. She's very loving. Has watched our cats but hasn't tried to play with them. At first didn't want to go in the backyard since she was dumped when we had the frigid nights. Has decided that running around the yard is fun now. ##2311878##

Keena is the best friend your dog has been looking for! Keena is a 3 year old, 75 lb German Shepherd mix who is the most perfect girl ever! We aren't sure why Keena has been in foster care for almost two years, maybe it's just the fact the black dogs tend to get overlooked by adopters quite often. But what we do know is that any family that adopts this babe is going to love her. Keena was born with megaesophagus and had surgery to correct it in has been running and playing like a normal pup ever since. She does require a raised bowl to eat soaked kibble, but that is a simple accommodation for this super sweet girl. Keena's one quirk - she gets extremely car sick and has since her foster mom picked her up. We have not yet tried meds to see if they help at all, but since her car sickness is pretty extreme we want her adopter to be aware. Keena is an absolute dream that loves other dogs and other dogs love her. She actually greets new fosters in her foster home and helps to make them feel comfortable in their new surroundings. She is gentle and loyal and every perfect mix of a German Shepherd and Lab. Keena does get uncomfortable in new situations but as long as her human is close by, she can be convinced everything will be okay. Keena doesn't do well with car rides – she gets car sick so an adopter will need to be aware of this. Keena has lived with her foster mom since she was 3 months old, so she will definitely need time to adjust to a new home when adopted – but once she does, she will be your most loyal companion. Keena is house and kennel trained and does great with dogs of all sizes and ages and even cats. Sometimes she thinks the cat wants to play, but she moves along quickly once she realizes that won’t happen. Keena doesn't live with children so we're unsure how she may be around them, due to that we'd recommend her for homes with older children who know to to respect dog friends.
