Story
This big boy is very protective of his family. He will require an experienced person that understands this breed. He would do well in a child free home but will pair with other dogs. He is described as obedient, active, playful, confident, and energetic. He enjoys a good scratch behind his ear, but not near his tail. The way to this guy`s heart is a ball. He LOVES playing with balls. He is playful, silly and young at heart.

Story
Gertie does not show well in her kennel. She has a HUGE bark, but this girl will tackle you for kisses and butt slams if given the chance. She is a large Malinois Shepherd mix that would probably do best in a home without children. She does not show much interest in the toys we have offered, but we are trying to find that one special toy. She will be a fantastic adventure buddy after some refinement. She is happy and silly.

Story
FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks! --- This boy!!! Cecil has been with Save-A-Mutt for a year now. We are so confused as to why this big goof has not found his forever home. Fortunately he is surrounded by an amazing community and a loving foster home. Cecils is all Mutt! Shepherd, Bully, Doberman, Aussie, Cattle Dog and even a little chihuahua. Hee Hee. Cecil turned a year old in November. He's about 70#. Cecil is confident and friendly. He loves 'lovins' and to be acknowledged by his people. He will try for a lap but overall defaults to sleeping on a dog bed. He hasn’t gotten on the furniture except when there’s a person to cuddle with. He is respectful of the other dogs and plays well his foster siblings. Cecil is smart and housebroken. He does very well in his crate and sleeps through the night. Cecil thinks the resident cat is fun to bark at... but he does not chase. Dog savvy cats would be OK. Cecil does sometimes like to hear himself talk, go figure - he's got that GSD DNA in him. ;) We think his ideal home is one with a large fenced yard, and another larger friendly dog. Older kids would be fine, cuz Cecil is a big door and may knock over smaller children. This puppy is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. Cecil has also been put on pet insurance and cleared orthopedically. He's great off leash, but as he's become a 'teenager' has gotten more excited and barks on leash. We started Cecil in private dog training with Evergreen School for Dogs in Arlington. His foster mom is taking him and says Cecil is very smart and responsive. The trainer explained that Cecil is naturally 'fearful' in a crowd. Off leash at the park, he's great, because if he gets concerned, he can walk away. But at events with LOTS of commotion, when he can't move away, he reacts by barking. We think his ideal family knows that Cecil will unlikely be the type of dog you take to heavily trafficked events - but camping, hiking, and other fun would be great for him! His foster noticed that Cecil had been a little itchy - and after a visit to the vet, an allergy test, we discovered that he has some extensive allergies to plants, mold, cats, etc. Fortunately - Cecil is on pet insurance and it can be transferred when he is adopted. Now that it's winter, he is just fine on OTC allergy meds. Come summer, when the grasses and pollens are more saturated, a monthly cytopoint injection will take care of his issues. Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption. Save-A-Mutt may require a training contract and refundable deposit (depending on previous dog experience) on our larger breed puppies. Adoptions typically take place in Everett. This puppy is ready for it's new home! Adoption fee is $325. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible. Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home. Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.
