If he’s in a crate, in a room alone and he hears a lot of commotion, he will bark. If you’ve left and the house is quiet, he’s quiet. He’s great in the kennel if someone is in the same room with him though. He likes being with his people. He happily snoozes in an open kennel during the day if you’re working from home and the kennel is near your work area.Scooby is a goof! There’s not much he takes too seriously. Besides treats. Treats are serious business! He will do just about anything for a treat. Even stuff he really doesn’t want to do. But treats are life. Tall Titan, is a strong and remarkable  Warrior, a dog that has fought to be alive and walking  today on this earth.  He has willed himself to come from the depths of pain and starvation to become this handsome boy that you see right now.  He is our Super Hero Pup and our example of a creature that has never given up even when it would have been easier to just go to sleep and never wake up.  When Titan came to a rescue lady’s house that Critter Cavalry knows, this boy was malnourished and just a skeleton of the puppy he should be as a Great Dane.  The lady has a love for the Danes and she asked CCR to please take him into our rescue before she fell in love and couldn’t let him go.  She had enough dogs and just felt the temptation to keep him was too great.  We agreed and soon Titan was ours to raise and get prepped for a new home and family.  Shortly afterwards his foster family noticed he was struggling to walk and his joints were inflamed. Titan was taken to several vets before receiving the diagnosis of  Hypertrophic osteodystrophy (HOD). He has been put on a regimen of medications, high calorie food and hydrotherapy and is now running, jumping and playing with other dogs. His favorite things to do are play with toys, run and nap in the sun. Titan is a large dog and will do best in a home with another large dog or two that he will be able to play with. He will continue to need medication intermittently for some time and to be followed by a veterinarian.  If you have large breed dog experience and are willing to take on this fellas special needs please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue. Lucky Lucas is a handsome 4 month old Great Dane/Lab mix puppy that is lucky because he was rescued from a very life-threatening situation during this summer’s heat wave in Tennessee. It was over 100 degrees and he was carelessly tied to a post at the local Walmart during the hot, hot day.  A foster mom for Critter Cavalry Rescue saw his desperate situation and stepped up and took him home.  It seems that this boy was dumped by a homeless man who could not really keep him safe and fed. This foster mom saved his life and we are grateful she had the heart to not turn her back on his need to be saved. No one else cared it seemed that day.  He is now in our care and we are working on getting him fully vetted and ready for a new home.   This handsome boy is a big couch potato like most Great Danes can be and yet he enjoys going for a walk and THEN hitting the sofa.  He also loves to sit by a window and watch the world go by kind of like a cat does. As you can imagine, the bigger the dog, the bigger the heart and Lucas is all about having a wonderful heart.  He is a great movie watching pal and is a pro at bedtime snuggling. He gets along very well with other dogs, cats and children. Look at that face. So kissable!!!   You must consider this boy who will be a 75 pound boy and the best of both worlds…. Duke the Dane is an 18 month, 90 pound smaller sized Great Dane that is a wonderful boy with the most fun and goofy personality!!  This boy you will NOT forget after you meet him.  He is loving, smart, devoted and obedient to me, his foster mom, and I’ve only had him a month.  I am a seasoned Great Dane person and have owned them and fostered many and currently I have many dogs and other animals and he gets along with everyone - cat, puppies, all breeds of dogs, horses, pigs and donkeys.  To say Dane Duke is versatile is an understatement.  He is perfection in so many ways.  Duke was very undernourished and thin when he arrived and since neutering, experimenting with a no chicken diet and supplementing him with oils and vitamins, he is finally starting to get stronger and put on weight.  We also tacked his stomach when he was neutered so that he could avoid the horrific and common stomach bloat that this breed often dies from as they age.  We bought a basic insurance policy for him with this medical procedure which was a much needed and worthy expense to insure a longer life for him.  It will save an owner many, many thousands of dollars at the ER in an effort to save his life should the bloat occur.  The odds are so high that it could.  Adding to his many good attributes, we can say that Dane Duke is a good watch dog, and gentle with children and loves to follow anyone around while doing chores.  And yes…this big boy is housebroken, good in a kennel crate and he mostly enjoys a big yard and the freedom to explore and play with his toys.  If you have been looking for a sweet Great Dane then you have found the perfect one. I’m Cersei, a regal dame of 8 years young, though I look as sprightly as a pup of 4! My coat boasts a stunning fawn hue, framing a majestic face that hints at my Mastiff heritage. Perhaps there’s a touch of extra Mastiff charm in me! My past is a mystery, having trotted through several foster homes before finding myself in my current cozy abode. I’m a lover through and through, and oh, how I adore to lean! A faithful companion, I’ll stand guard with a gentle woof when visitors approach. Following your lead, I’ll wait patiently, ready to shower any newcomer with affectionate slobbers. At a majestic 135 lbs. and towering at 32 inches, I’m quite the sight to behold! And oh, how I revel in a good back scratch, leaning against you in pure bliss. Recently, the vet took a peek at a pesky skin growth on my chest, assuring us it’s nothing to fret over. My foster family has promised to have it tended to before I find my forever home with you.

Woof! I’m Timber, a big-hearted, 3-year-old Great Dane gal eagerly awaiting my forever family. My fawn coat frames a lovely face that hints at my Mastiff lineage, perhaps even a touch of English Mastiff from one of my Great Dane parents. My past is a bit of a mystery, having trotted through several foster homes before finding solace in my current foster family’s care. I’m a sweet soul, sometimes a tad shy, but always ready to shower you with love and loyalty. Protective by nature, I’ll raise a gentle bark to announce visitors, but aggression isn’t in my playbook. At 135 lbs. and 32 inches tall, you won’t need to stoop to pet me! Unfortunately, I recently had a minor hiccup with my leg, needing some extra TLC as it’s not too keen on carrying all my weight. Luckily, my leg is still functional, and the wonderful folks at MAGDRL are helping me through this phase. Bookmark my post and stay tuned for updates as I heal and regain strength. I’m Izzie, a 4.5 year old spayed merle girl. I grew up with 2 kids, 3 cats and while I didn’t live with other dogs, I am good with them. I’m a svelte girl at 108 lbs, but have a Dane’s height and am 32” at the shoulders. My foster mom calls me a COVID Dane as I grew up with folks working from home and am not crate trained. So far I’ve been really good in the house and not done anything I shouldn’t have. The one exception is I was incontinent when I arrived and while my foster parents aren’t sure if it’s because of the stress of my old family packing to move, my move to MAGDRL or if I was spayed too early, since I’ve been on Proin, I haven’t had any accidents. I’ve been with my foster parents for two weeks now and I’m starting to show my personality. I like fast walks and while I pulled at first, I’m getting better with every walk. I also prefer pavement over grass. That’s probably because I hate getting my toes wet. We went on a battlefield walk today and I so did not want to cross the stream. I also don’t want to go in the grass to do my business if the grass is wet. My foster parents have a really big yard and two really big dogs – my foster mom says they are horses. Now that I’ve been here a bit, I’m starting to be trusted to be off leash and I’m getting the opportunity to have my zoomies. Mom did catch me rubbing my face in the stall sawdust, so she really keeps a close eye on me when we go to look for fly masks in the pasture that the horses have rubbed off so I don’t rub my face in horse poo. Since I don’t like getting wet, this would be very bad as I’d have to get a bath and no one would be happy. I’m also still shy around new folks and situations. Since I’ve gotten here and because I’m good in the car, I’ve gotten to go to the feed store for grain-free food, Home Depot and the fire station for their monthly meeting. I don’t approach people, they can pet me, but I walk away quickly and look for one of my foster parents. I’m also still a bit unsure of my surroundings, so I definitely want to be in the same room as my foster parents, especially Mom. If she goes to the barn without me, I’ll look out the windows and whine until she comes back. But if they leave the house, I’m not waiting at the window for them when they get home. I’ve not shown much interest in toys or dog beds so far preferring to nap on rugs and, if allowed on the couch. I have tried to “puppy eye” my way into the bed, but haven’t been successful – so far. My other play is to put my head on Mom’s desk or the dinner table to see if I can get a treat or some extra pets. I’ve been successful getting the pets, but not treats – yet. I’m also a “good sleeper” I like to go to bed around 9:30 and will stare at my foster parents until they get the message. I’ll wake up around 7:00 to go out, but will go back to bed if my foster parents want to sleep in. Coming from an active household, and still having lots of energy, I’d like to live with an active family that helps me keep my svelte physique.

Why? She’s a big, strong, and playful girl, who came into rescue because her owner died, and her owner’s next of kin kept her outside for 2 years before surrendering her to rescue in January 2021. In those 2 years, she had minimal training and human interaction, and she became infected with heartworm. MTM provided heartworm treatment and she is now negative. Rajah’s previous adopters expected too much, too soon. The first adopters allowed their cat in immediate proximity within the first hour, and Rajah chased. Days later, it wasn’t any better. The second adopter had no other pets, and no children at home. Rajah was adjusting well to the routine and the long walks and all the attention. But, when an adult child and dog visited, Rajah got protective, so she was returned. Her perfect home would have a confident and patient owner, no children, no other animals, and a yard that is fenced in with a physical fence.  Rajah could potentially have a K9 brother or sister as long as his/her demeanor was calm and not overly exuberant or aggressive and they were introduced properly, with decompression techniques used. Rajah needs time and consistency to learn her people are trustworthy. She doesn’t have good social skills with dogs. She chases cats and other small animals. She has been with the same fosterer since April 2021. Her fosterer has other dogs, and goats. Rajah is kept separated from the other animals, and her fosterer feels Rajah doesn’t get enough time with her. Her fosterer describes Rajah as a loving, bouncy Great Dane, a "picture-perfect dog that is just beyond beautiful. Her soul and spirit are truly a rare blessing." She deserves a home where she can enjoy her own space and her own people. Rajah knows basic obedience, just needs to be reminded. She pulls at times but also knows how to walk at a heel position. She loves her zoomies but then will get excited and will jump up to face greet. Putting her in a sit and giving a calm chest rub will calm her back down. Rajah is located in Knoxville, MD. She rides great in the car. She has no issues with people approaching, but she will bark at other dogs. Going to the vet hasn’t been an issue. Grooming; she is fine with nails trims, brushing, etc. She is fine by herself, so she can be left alone while someone works. Likes: Rajah loves having her face petted and leaning in for a Dane hug. She is so attentive and eager to please. She does well in a crate, but she will sing to you if she needs a potty break, a hug or attention. Dislikes: Strangers, dogs barking at her, unpredictable people or activity Personality: Rajah is playful and loving. Her facial expression is so soft. She just wants to get and give love. Energy level: Rajah is able to be calm in a crate, but when loose she is high energy. She loves her zoomies so would do best in a fenced yard. She runs the fence barking at the goats, and the other dogs. Favorite activities: Zoomies and hugs. Good with: Calm, confident and predictable adult humans, and positive training. She likes to please. Not good with: Energetic or loud dogs or cats. She is insecure, so is not trustworthy with children. Housetrained: Yes. Crate trained: Yes. Challenges: Rajah will need to have her obedience training refreshed. She is calmest in a home with a confident owner or she will take control. She does not have good dog-to-dog social skills and she chases cats, so would do best in a home with no other pets. She has done well with calm K9's, so that is a possibility and can be explored in discussion with her current foster. Any Medical issues? Rajah is now heartworm negative! Rajah would thrive in an experienced Great Dane home that understands the importance of ongoing training to build Rajah's confidence. Being an only dog would give her the attention and the time she wants and needs to become a happy-go-lucky Dane. A fenced yard would give her the thrill of the zoomies that she so loves. Rajah may be seven years old, but she isn’t ready to slow down. A typical Dane, she will enjoy going for a walk just as much as a nap. Since coming to MTM she has put on weight and shown what a wonderful dog she is. PERSONALITY: Abby is so very sweet; she’s a pro at the Great Dane lean and also will pull your hand over if you stop petting her. She’s happy to lay on the couch with her head on your lap. She’s calm, easygoing and enjoys meeting people. FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: She likes being with people and enjoys naps on the couch. She will get frisky and ask one of the other dogs to play. MEDICAL ISSUES: Once her stitches from being spayed have healed she has no known medical issues. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Abby would do best in a quiet home or a home that will give her the time needed to settle in. She does well with other dogs, cats and livestock, but would prefer to get more attention. Fireworks and thunder worries her, but she’s ok as long as she feels safe. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:  Abby is sweet, calm and generally well behaved. During the day she has free roam of the house and interacts well with the pack of five dogs that live in her foster home. (Even the crazy Dane puppy that’s the size of a horse and has zero concept of personal space.) At night Abby has the choice of sleeping on a dog bed or on the couch. So far she has always ended up on the couch. Word of warning though, she’s a counter surfer. Possibly that will ease as she settles into her forever home, but no guarantees so be prepared. Abby has sometimes been protective of her food. Although it can sound bad it’s a case of all bark and no bite. She is not being aggressive, but she might trigger a less stable dog. Time, patience and understanding will be required from all members of the household. Abby would be good for a first time Dane owner or anyone wanting a young but mature, well behaved adult dog. He was left behind when his owners moved out. Very affectionate.He looks like a goofy, kind of floppy hound dog as he ambles around. He’s sweet and affectionate. Gets along with most dogs. He’s a little bossy with food especially with a timid dog. Feeding in a crate solves that. Loves his play time in the yard with two stout dogs. My favorite game is fetch, and I can still give those young pups a run for their money. I'm a bit shy at first, but once I warm up to you, we'll be the best of friends. I love snuggles, belly rubs, and the occasional treat. Despite my age, I've still got plenty of love to give.   Hercules is looking for someone to be their hero.  This 3 year old 170 pound Bull Mastiff is massive and definitely the size of a small pony.  He is a lazy, affectionate big OOF that needs someone bigger and stronger than him to make him their sidekick in life.  Being the only dog would be so good for him since the former owner never socialized him with other dogs.  He assumed that Hercules might be a little aggressive or assertive and so we just don’t know for sure.   Maybe a female dog would be fine but we doubt a male would be a good idea in the future home.  He is not great on a leash.  Noone took that time to really train him but it still is doable with the right person knowing how to do it.  He is housebroken, crate trained and he is not destructive in the house.  This boy will make you laugh, make you want to protect him (even though he is big) and he will love you unconditionally and who in the world would ever break in to your home!?  Goodness they would be insane.   This boy loves people though….but if you don’t know him then he could be a nice guardian.   A fenced yard would be the perfect environment for everyone.  If you qualify, then please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comAugust 19, 2024, 2:03 pm
