Story
Meet Dash, a young, friendly canine who's brimming with playful energy. His lively spirit is infectious, and his goofiness is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. Dash loves to play fetch, chase his tail, and explore his surroundings. He's eager to learn new tricks and commands, making him a joy to train. He's also a big fan of snuggles, showing his friendly nature. Dash has an unending supply of love to give, and he's looking for a forever home where he can share it. Adopting Dash means welcoming a bundle of joy and energy into your life, promising fun-filled days and cozy nights. Dash is not just a pet, but a companion who will add a dash of happiness to your life. Dash is a 7 - 9 month old male Great Dane. He has a high energy level, so he would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. He does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! Dash is food motivated and knows the command sit. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel and is indifferent towards cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. For more information about this dog or any others at our Shelter, please visit www.joplinhumane.org. We are the Joplin Humane Society in Joplin, Missouri. 417-623-3642.

Story
Laker is a black and white Great Dane/Hound mix and her estimated DOB is 12/30/2017. Laker (who also knows the names Mia or Gracie) was adopted from the Haven but returned two years later, not due to any fault of her own, but because her owners were unprepared to train a dog with resource insecurity. You see, Laker gets along with other dogs fairly well, but she really needs her own space away from other dogs in her home, as she's protective of food, toys, and her bed. She'd do best with a free feeder so she can learn that food is not a limited resource. Laker also did excellent with the kids in her previous home and hasn't had any reaction to cats at the shelter! Her ideal forever home will be able to work around her quirks and provide her with her own space, such as a kennel in a separate room, or ideally not have any other dogs! We at the Haven know that this affectionate, loyal girl is absolutely worth it! All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open from 9am-4pm, seven days a week. For more information, please email us at havenozarksanctuary@gmail.com, or give us a call at 417-835-3647.

Story
Boomer's DOB is 10/03/2019. He's a blue Great Dane, and is a lovebug in a big clumsy lanky body. He takes a little while to warm up to new people but then he loves attention, playing, and rolling on top of you for cuddles. He is fast and needs a yard to run in. He should be in a home without other dogs and without children, as both make him very nervous. "Nervous" is probably the best word to describe him, but we believe he'd blossom into a whole new dog once he's out of the stressful shelter environment! Just as long as he's allowed to acclimate at his own pace. His estimated DOB is 10/03/2019. All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open from 9am-4pm, seven days a week. For more information, please email us at havenozarksanctuary@gmail.com, or give us a call at 417-835-3647.
