Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Paula is a snuggle bug of a great dane that needs a home where she can lay on the couch and watch movies and go on long walks/play with her people. HISTORY: Unknown PERSONALITY: Paula is loving once she is comfortable round you but it takes some time and trust building to get there. She matches your energy, if you are having a lazy day, Paula too, is having a lazy day. If you are energetic and going for a run, Paula too, wants to go for a run. She really just loves being around people and doing whatever you are doing. She is a lazy dog at heart and loves napping on couches, beds, etc. She is very skittish and easily spooked by noises and sounds, she often scares herself with her tail when she hits things like trash cans, railings, etc.. FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Running at the fairgrounds with other dogs who will chase me and snuggling on the couch or bed with my people. MEDICAL ISSUES: Spayed, de-wormed and treated, caught up on all vaccinations. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Paula needs a very patient owner who will love her and take the time to build trust. She is not warm and fuzzy to new people but after a few days will she will get there, unfortunately, it may be due to her background. Another dog would be great for her because she loves to play but she could also thrive in a home where she is the only dog. She may need a quieter home because loud noises and sounds spook her very easy and she is already extremely skittish (even after she gets comfortable). She needs a home where if there are kids they understand that needs to be met on her terms and slowly. She most likely will growl because she is uncomfortable not because she has intention to harm. She is hesitant towards everyone and will pick one person to be her person and will slowly warm up to everyone else. She would most likely be ideal for young or middle aged owner who can handle her on a leash in case she sees a squirrel because she will pull. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Paula has good recall but when she sees something of interest (like a squirrel) it is hard to refocus her if she is off leash she will run and chase it. She also took some time to go up and down the stairs. It may take weeks of coaxing and lots of treats but with time she will get there, but beware once she finds the bedrooms your bed is now her bed. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Important notes before applying. Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. We will not adopt giant breed dogs to renters. Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption. Homes with children should have a fenced yard. Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption.  Proof of any of the following exceptions is required: The intact dog is a working member of a law enforcement, or search and rescue/recovery team. The intact dog is registered under the auspices of the American Kennel Club and is actively being shown. A veterinarian has determined the sterilization procedure would harm the intact dog.  We believe in Force Free Training Methods and do not approve of methods or devices using pain or force to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior.  Homes with highly varnished steps must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. **We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit. Story
Meet Riker! This gentle giant came to us a stray, so we don`t have any background on him but we can tell you that he is an affectionate, playful, and happy pup! Riker walks well on a leash but will pull when he sees another dog or person. It`s not out of aggression, he just sees more dogs and people that he can play with! Riker likes treats and takes them gently once they`re offered. He is very playful and likes it when his human joins in. He also shows very playful behaviors with other dogs, regardless of their size. Riker will happily lean in for pets and booty scratches. Riker is a big dog and needs a lot of space. Come in and meet this good boy today!

Story
MOUSSE IS NOT AT THE SHELTER -- HE IS IN A TEMPORARY FOSTER HOME.To schedule an appointment to meet Mousse, please email: moussethegreatdane@yahoo.comMagnificent Mousse (M, 3-years-old, Great Dane) is the GENTLEST of gentle giants (and the giantest, too)! Every ounce of his 160-pounds is calm, affectionate, and delicately sweet. He has moments of goofy, playful energy, but mostly, he's a big potato.Mousse was purchased from a breeder as a puppy (yup, he's a fancy guy with AKC papers and such) and lived three years with the same family. They had to move into a small apartment, so Mousse ended up at Animal Aid, and then went to a fabulous foster family. Here's what they have to say:Mousse is super smart, potty trained, great on a leash, dog friendly, friendly with our kids (8 & 3-years old), eats well, no food aggression, loves treats, loves his toys, and is a wonderful dog. He doesn't get on couches or beds unless given permission. He lets us trim his nails, he bathes well in the shower once we coax him in, he'll even let us brush his teeth or scratch the gunk off with our fingernail (I know, gross but hey gotta keep his mouth clean). Mousse loves children, but he can get over-excited/anxious if A LOT of children swarm him at once, and, unfortunately, his foster family lives in a neighborhood where loud, playful kids are always running up to him on walks. They think sweet Mousse would be a lot happier with less chaos :)This gorgeous guy is longing to fill a forever home with love -- please SHARE THIS POST -- we know there are Great Dane lovers out there! ***Reach out to his foster family at moussethegreatdane@yahoo.com to schedule an appointment to meet him!The meeting will take place at Animal Aid Society, and Animal Aid Society will review all adoption applications.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Moose needs a Valentine to help him celebrate his birthday. HISTORY: Moose was born on Valentine’s Day in 2023. Moose came to MTM from a home in Kentucky. PERSONALITY: Moose is loving, playful and loyal. Moose may look full grown but he is very playful. Moose loves crinkle toys and tug of war ropes. Moose does get the zoomies usually at night before bedtime. He loves to play but just as much as he loves to play Moose loves to rest, snuggle and be pet. His favorite spots to be pet are on his head and behind his ears. Moose is also very loyal. He will let it be known when something is amiss. FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Playing with crinkle toys, tug of war ropes, being pet and snuggling, going for walks. MEDICAL ISSUES: Moose came to MTM rather thin and needing to put on some weight (117.4 at intake) he has been gaining weight. Moose also has some calluses which he has oil being put on them to soften up the spots. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: The best home for Moose would be one where the adopter understands the needs of a Great Dane or large breed dog. One who is patient and willing to help train Moose to be the best dog he can be. Moose is leash trained (must be walked using a harness as he will very easily slip his collar), housebroken and crate trained but is still working on manners. He does jump when he gets excited and when he gets bored will chew on whatever he can find. Moose has been doing well with redirection when receiving correction. Moose loves to be near his person or people and will follow around. Moose prefers to be wherever the people are. He is an absolute love and would love a home where he can have lots of attention.
