Please call the shelter at (706) 795-2868 to schedule a meet and greet.Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter is a non-profit shelter serving over 720 square miles. We are open intake, meaning we can not turn away animals from either county we serve. Our shelter intakes double or triple it's capacity every month so it is essential we place animals quickly into adoptive homes. Since so many animals enter the shelter we often don't have enough volunteers to write an individual bio for each. Please feel free to call the shelter Wednesday-Sunday to inquire about the animal you are interested in. 706-795-2868.Viewing and adoption hours at our shelter are Wednesday through Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM. Story
It's not her, it's us. Look, Luna is a wonderful dog. She's just not the right dog for our family. We've had her since she was five months old, and she's always been great with the kids and other dogs. She is very loving and wants to be pet all the time. She thinks she is a lap dog, and her dream scenario would be living on a farm where she can roam free during the day and snuggle up with you in bed at night. We relocated from California last year, and our new property doesn't have a fence. This has caused problems as Luna sees that as an invitation to roam. She's run off on multiple occasions to frolic through the forest, and while she always comes back, this obviously isn't an ideal situation. We feel bad keeping her chained up all day and know that she would have a much more fulfilled life if she had space to run around and someone to snuggle her at the end of the day. If you think that's you and your family, we'd love to chat. We love Luna and want her to thrive.

Story
Honey is a 4 year old Great Pyrenees with a heart of gold and eyes that look into your soul. She had a rough life before she found a soft landing with Dirt Road Doggies. She was used a breeding dog and then dumped and left to starve. In typical Great Pyrenees fashion, she is protective of her area so we suggest she be an only dog. She may improve with training as we think she was left to defend her puppies in the past. She's a laid back girl and would love a fenced in back yard where she could hang and watch the squirrels all day!  ##1811730##

Story
**It is strongly encouraged to research the Great Pyrenees breed prior to considering one for adoption. While they are wonderful dogs, they are not for everyone. SOCIAL MEDIA HASHTAG:  #libbylou AGE: 5.5yrs (Apr 2023)WEIGHT:  106.4lbsWORKING LGD:  NO - family pet only DOGS:  Good: Can be bossy at timesDOG RESTRICTIONS:  Can be temperamental with pushy dogs CATS:  UnknownCHILDREN:  GoodOTHER ANIMALS (birds, farm animals, etc): Unknown FENCED YARD REQUIRED:  Yes GOOD OFF LEASH:  NO!! ROAMER/RUNNER GROOMING/SHEDDING NEEDS:  HighMEDICAL ISSUES:  None MEDICATIONS:  Anxiety meds SPECIAL NEEDS:  Somewhat - Libby is severely afraid of beeping sounds due to previously wearing a shock collar prior to rescue. She is on medication so that she will not harm herself or escape. She is also a fence climber/jumper and can scale a 6ft fence. Will forever have to be leash walked only. ANXIETY:  Yes - due to her severe fear of beeps. Also has storm anxiety.BARKING:  High EXPERIENCED OWNER NEEDED:  Yes CRATE TRAINED:  Yes HOUSE TRAINED:  Yes GOOD IN CAR:  Yes FUN FACTS:  Libby is a delightful character and shows great affection for everyone. She enjoys snuggling, loves to give hugs, and she is extremely gentle and kind...outside of her Pyr Paw, which is very strong when she opts to use it. She does well with dogs but can sometimes be dominant and overly bossy, so she'll need someone experienced in handling interactions between dogs, as well as understand it may be a little more prominant in the beginning. She is well behaved and loves to go on walks. Lizzy has a very big bark and while she isn't excessive, it's LOUD, so being mindful of close neighbors is important. **PLEASE READ FOLLOWING INFORMATION IMPORTANT:  Libby will forever have to be leash walked and NEVER allowed off leash for any outdoor time, even potty breaks, even in a fenced yard. She will bolt and climb/clear a 6ft fence without hesitation. She enjoys going on walks and is great on a leash, so someone who likes to take a few daily walks would be ideal (NOTE that Libby is NOT a jogger or long distance runner). She is a big girl, though, so her adopter needs to be comfortable holding her on a leash. Libby is well behaved indoors, but will require a giant crate when someone isn't home to protect her in case she becomes afraid of a sound or storm. We feel she would enjoy the company of another dog but it is not required. She will require patience during the transition, however. Libby is a LOVELY girl with a tremendous heart who is adored by everyone she meets. She is charming, affectionate, kind and all around wonderful...but she does require someone who will understand her needs. ##1239538##
