Story
Doug is a great dog! Loyal, friendly and well behaved. He best suited for a home with bigger kids or pets as his playfulness can come off as aggressive. He is still young and sometimes doesnt like like other dogs near his food or a bone what we may give him. He loves being outside Just not a right fit for our family.

Story
Meet Knox, an almost two-year-old Great Pyrenees x Lab mix weighing 77lbs- a true gentle giant to say the least. His endearing nature is particularly touching considering his special need - he is deaf. Despite his hearing impairment, Knox is a happy and easy going guy. His sweet and mild nature instantly warms the hearts of those around him. Though initially timid, Knox easily forges friendships and thrives on gentle companionship. When it comes to other dogs, we have never seen him show any outward signs of aggression. However, it seems that other dogs are unpredictable to him, and he would choose to avoid them if he had the option. If pushed by another dog, he seems like he would defend his personal space. However, we haven't allowed him to feel like he has to defend himself. With that in mind, Knox would be best suited as the only dog in a household or with lower-energy canine companions who respect his boundaries. Alternatively, a home experienced in managing multiple dogs could provide him with the guidance and supervision he needs to flourish. Knox's ideal forever home is one that recognizes and embraces his distinctive qualities. Patience, understanding, and unconditional love are the pillars of the home he seeks, where he can navigate life with the gentle guidance needed to thrive. Be it leisurely strolls in nature or cozy evenings at home, Knox is ready to share his heart and create a lifetime of cherished memories with a family willing to appreciate the sweet spirit he will bring to his forever home.If you're ready to welcome Knox into your life, come meet him, and embark on a journey filled with love, laughter, and the delightful sound of endless tail wags. Story
Hey there, I'm Banzai, a 3 year old Great Pyrenese with a heart of gold. I'm a friendly and gentle boy but I have not had any experience in an indoor home. I'd like to try it out but I need someone patient to understand I need time to adjust. I also wouldn't mind staying outdoors with the proper set up. I have been around horses and do fine, but as for other livestock I'm not sure. Take me home and I'll show you love. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2031970##

Story
Hello, I'm Mo! I'm the sweetest, friendliest, most curious and smartest dog you'll ever meet. My sidekick, Banzai, and I ended up here after a hilarious mix-up at the park. You see, we mistook the animal control van for the ice cream truck! We chased it all the way here and well, the rest is history. We've been making the best of our situation, causing laughter and spreading joy. If you're looking for a friend that can turn any situation into a comedy sketch, I'm your dogs. Adopt me, and let's create our own sitcom! Story
See Luna live in action: https://www.swh.org/staff-favorites.htmlLuna is a 7-year-old Anatolian Shepherd/Pyrenees mix and a shelter favorite. She weighs around 90lbs and is a giant fluffball! She absolutely loves being outdoors in addition to playing with toys. She has some stranger danger in the beginning, and once she's comfortable with you, she will let you snuggle and love on her all you want! Luna enjoys the company of adults and would prefer not to have any kids or fur siblings in her future home. She'd be thrilled to find someone that will get her a huge bed to snooze on and lots of stuffies to play with. Luna is a sweetie pie, and she's ready to find her forever home!
