Story
Denali is a 6 year old gentle giant who requires an adult only home. Good with cats and dogs who respect space and boundaries. She had a TPLO surgery at age 3. She has shown food aggression towards animals and small children but not adults. She displays resource guarding of food, treats and toys. She prefers being inside most of the time. She is a Great Pyrenees and golden retriever mix. She was adopted at age 3 from a rescue in Oklahoma that did not disclose her above mentioned temperament. We are sadly rehoming because we are expecting a baby in the fall and unable to keep her safely away from family children. She has never bit, and we want to reduce any risks by re homing her to an environment that cause her less stress and will increase her quality of life.

Story
My husband & I found Luna (and her “sister” Penny) roaming alongside a roadway in Houston. The next day we brought them to the SPCA to have them checked out - they had worms & fleas so we had them treated but thankfully they were overall in good health. We found out that they were 3 mos. old. Penny & Luna were attached to myself and my husband so we kept them! Penny is about 7 yrs old now. She’s a super smart girl, she’s really energetic and protective of those close to her. She’s potty-trained, good around kids (we have a toddler and an infant) & great with other dogs. She’s well-trained & knows sit, sit pretty (begging position), lay down, “paw”(shake right paw), “other” (left paw shake), twirl, “go inside” (go inside doggie den). She’s really a great dog, but with our jobs, 2 young ones & no family in the area to help, it’s become difficult to give her everything she needs & deserves with outdoor exercise, variety of walking trails, playtime, etc.

Story
Meet Gus, our gentle giant. Gus was found abandoned in Shepherd, TX, neglected, underweight and very hungry! Although life hadn't been kind to this sweet boy, he is sweet, loving and forgiving! . Gus was a little stand offish to begin with but with love and care from his foster family he began settling in. He has begun to play with the other dogs. He gets super happy when his foster family gets home from work and gets the zoomies. Gus is good with other dogs and cats; he hasn’t been around kids much but with his sweet nature we’re sure he’d be good. He minds well. Gus will require a fenced in yard; this guy needs a place to run around and loves outside playtimes.Gus is a good boy in the house and does not need to be kenneled. He does still require regular potty breaks outside so will need someone to keep on top of that. Overall, Gus is a great dog and is going to be an amazing addition to a family that deserves him.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Fun playful girlMs Kalei is smart, sweet, and a bit of a goof. Great with other dogs. She is a gentle giant.  She is looking for a home where she has a dog buddy. Kalei is crate trained.   She knows sit and is working on other commands.   Kalei loves adventure and would love nothing more than exploring new walking trails or riding in the car. She is a great dog and will make a fabulous family member. Ms Kalei has not had a lot of luck. She was hit by a car when she was very young and came to the rescue with a broken leg. As soon as her leg was healed, we discovered she had a damaged hip as well.   Kalei has had a hip replacement from the car accident, her broken leg and her hip are both good as new - or bionic! She runs and plays with the rest of the pack.     Kalei is looking for a family that will love her forever!  =========================================================  Please contact app@aarfhouston.org for more information about this dog. You can apply online by clicking on Application . Puppies that are under 4 months old cannot be adopted outside of our Veterinary Service area. Please call for specific locations. Children under 8 years old often are not a good match for our puppies and dogs. In order to protect both, your child and our rescued dogs/puppies from harm, we seldom if ever adopt to families with young children.  Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events. Thank you for considering a rescue! The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it. NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others. AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you. Story
Sweet Ringo is a 2yr old ball of fun! He is a complete goofball. He desperately wants to be a lap dog. He reminds me of a lab in personality. He desperately wants a friend to play fetch with. He is completely houstrained and crate trained. He also knows a few basic commands. I know he's capable of so much more but the time to teach him isnt there. Due to unfortunate work situations he is spending way too much time in his crate. He will come with his crate and a bag of his dog food.
