Story
Meet Ember! Ember is an 8 year old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog mix who was saved from a commercial breeding facility in Lancaster County. She was used and abused by the puppy mill her entire life, until they couldn’t use her anymore, and then reached out to us to take her off their hands. This particular puppy mill has consistently been on the Humane Society’s Horrible Hundred list, a comprehensive list of the worst puppy mills in the entire country. There are estimated to be about 10,000 puppy mills in the country, so you can only imagine how horrific this facility has to be to make the top 100. On top of that it is a massive operation. She has started to giving us her trust as well as all her love and gentleness. We are confident she will make a wonderful family member for a very lucky family, who understands her past and gives her the time she needs to trust them. Our mill mamas are always extremely special, and we promise you there is no love out there that compares to theirs! Please apply to be considered at our website www.angelsretreat.org! 💕🐾 Ember Quick Facts: -She is doing wonderful in her foster home and is house trained -She is very loving and just wants to cuddle! -She loves other dogs and is a great work from home companion!

Story
Meet Heidi! Heidi is 4 year old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog mix who was saved from a commercial breeding facility in Lancaster County. Heidi is very shut down, but we will work with her to build her trust and confidence to be able to find her the forever she deserves. We have been saving dogs from this particular breeder for over two years now, reporting them to the state countless time, and we can confidently say that this puppy mill is a massive operation. It is no surprise it has landed itself on the HSUS’ Horrible Hundred List multiple years in a row. Regardless of all of that, this “breeder” is actually well known GSMD breeder around the country, who has tricked thousands of people into thinking they aren’t who they truly are. They know what needs to be done to comfort people into believing they are not buying from a puppy mill- and they do it well. We can say from first hand experience, nothing could be further from the truth. Heidi was a victim of this puppy mill and only because people continued to support her abuse by buying her puppies. We hope this post may help educate the public about how important it is to do thorough and diligent research and not just believe what you are told. If more people did the work to see the truth, educated themselves on what responsible breeders do, or just avoided buying a dog altogether and adopted, Heidi may have been able to avoid the trauma and abuse she faced for the last 4 years. Heidi had a very difficult life before coming to us, but she will never be wanted for anything more than the love she can give. She will be cherished part of a family, and not a tool to make a greedy person lots of money. She will never have another bad day and we are honored to provide her this comfort in life. If you are interested in being considered for adoption, learning more about our mill mama program, or contributing to help us save more dogs like Heidi please go to on our website at www.angelsretreat.org 💕🐾 Heidi Quick Facts: -Heidi needs another confident dog in the house -Heidi would do best in a home with children over 10 years of age -Heidi is very shy and will require a fenced in yard -Heidi is as sweet as can be once you earn her trust 🩷

Story
Meet January and February! These cuties are Greater Swiss Mountain Dog mixes were saved from a commercial breeding facility in Lancaster county due not being sold. January is about 1 year old, and February is about 5 months old. These sweethearts are understandably nervous at first, but are doing a great job learning to trust new people! They have a lot of fun energy, and will thrive in homes that can provide all the mental stimulation, exercise, and training that puppies require. As with all dogs we save from puppy mills, they will need a family who is understanding and prepared to work through a period of transition with them as they learn to live in a house and around people. They will need time to trust their new family before working on training, such as house training. This should go without saying, but we require all our animals to be trained using positive reinforcement methods ONLY. If you are interested in being considered for them please apply on our website at www.angelsretreat.org 💕🐾

Story
Meet Hope! Hope is a 2-3 year old Greater Swiss Mountain dog who came to us from a commercial breeding facility in Lancaster County after it was decided that she was no longer profitable as a breeder mama. This particular puppy mill is a massive operation and it’s no surprise it has landed itself on the HSUS’ Horrible Hundred List many years in a row now. We received a call to take another mill mama and a few of her puppies that were “accidents” after one of the male golden retrievers got into the cage with one of the female swissies. When we arrived, they informed us that the puppies were not protected by their mother and therefore had died overnight due to the freezing temperatures in our area. This horrifying end is a very common occurrence at puppy mills in the winter. When you have vulnerable puppies who live entirely outside in freezing temperatures, they depend entirely on their mother to keep them warm and shield them from the elements. The harsh reality of this is that if these mill mamas do not keep their puppies close to them for warmth or aren’t protecting them from the weather even for a short period of time, they will die. We are heartbroken for the puppies, but thankful we were able to save Hope. She will require a family who understands her past, and is patient with her as she transition to living life in a home and around kind people. This should go without saying, but we require all our animals to be trained using positive reinforcement methods ONLY. Hope is very shut down and will require a home without children under the age of 12 years old. She would thrive with another confident dog in the home, and a fenced in yard to keep her safe. Please apply to be considered at our website www.angelsretreat.org! 💕🐾 To learn more about our puppy mill survivor program go to the following link: https://angelsretreat.org/special-programs-for-special-dogs/mill-mamas/ Hope Quick Facts: -Requires another confident dog in the home and no children under 12 years of age -She is very shut down right now, and will require a patient family -We absolutely adore her soft demeanor and sweet personality, once you earn her trust
