Story
Our lil' Misty girl is having a very hard time in the shelter environment. Her increased stress is leading to interactions not showing her amazing self to interested adopters. Her increased stress is causing her skin to flare-up which is undoubtedly uncomfortable for her. We have her on antibiotics and are switching her diet to determine what she possibly may be allergic to. Living here is proving to be extremely difficult for her. Which breaks our hearts because we have seen how much fun and how sweet and loving Misty can be. We are looking for a foster or a foster-to-adopt home. She will need someone who can be meticulous with her food intake and only feed her what we provide. Our vet team is determined to figure out what can help this lil' dollface succeed. Misty's ideal home would be one where there are only adults. She loves to be near everyone but the hustle and bustle that kiddos can bring isn't her cup of tea. A home with minimal commotion is ideal. Once she knows you, she is a bundle of joy and fun! She is a lap dog. When we have her up in the office, Misty finds an open spot with one of us and hangs out in their arms while they type away. Please just be patient when meeting her; she does come around and will befriend new people! Playing with squeaky toys is one of her favorite things to do, aside from cuddling. She has the cutest zoomies where she scoots so low to the ground and runs all over. Another fun thing for her is to burrow in blankets and give kisses to those she knows. Misty would prefer a home without kitty friends. She is a smaller gal who likes to be the queen gal when it comes to other dog friends. We've seen her co-exist nicely with shelter dogs who give her space when she asks for it and who have a "really-don't-care-about-much" type of personality. We do think she'd be totally fine to have it be just her without other furry friends so she can have all your love to herself! Misty is a little under six years old, is spayed, and is about 13-pounds. To foster her, please fill out the application found here: https://michianapets.org/get-involved/foster. If you are an approved foster, please give us a call us at 219-872-4499 if you can help Misty.

Story
Lucky is a happy, sweet, and friendly, eight-year-old, 29-pound, tan and white male Jack Russell Terrier/Shih Tsu-mix looking for a loving guardian. Lucky’s human mom passed away, and he is currently living in a foster home. He’s doing well with two Chihuahuas and a dog-friendly cat. But, he will bark at new dogs when meeting; slow controlled introductions are best. He gets along with everyone when introduced properly. He loves food but is not at all food aggressive. He is housebroken, great on leash, but he is afraid of larger dogs. Apparently, an attack by a larger dog is how he lost his left eye. He is looking for someone who can continue his diet plan. His foster mom has diligently kept him on a diet and he has already lost about 10 pounds. He used to be obese and his tummy used to drag on the ground because his beloved mom overfed him, and under-exercised him. Lucky enjoys car rides, and his hair grows and sheds, so he’s been professionally groomed. Lucky is extremely healthy, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. He even had a recent dental cleaning. His adoption fee of $300 benefits the rescued pets of Friends of Petraits Rescue. He comes complete with absolutely everything you need to care for him. He is not crated, but he’s been well-behaved and non-destructive in his foster home. If you are interested in meeting and possibly adopting Lucky, please fill in an adoption application at https://friendsofpetraits.com/dog-adoption-application/ and follow up by contacting friendsofpetraits@gmail.com to make an appointment to meet him. He is currently being fostered in Chicago.

Story
Sweet, sensitive, shy Penny seeks a quiet, loving, and patient retirement home; could it be yours? Miss Penny is estimated to be 11 years of age and weighs in at 20 pounds. Her breed mix is unknown, and without a DNA test, we cannot say with certainty what breeds combined to create our beautiful girl, but we suspect Beagle and Jack Russell or other similar terrier high up in her family tree. This precious little lady was adopted from Pal's Place in June 2014 when she was about six months old. Ten years later, a now senior, mature Penny has been returned to Pal's Place and has again found herself searching for a family to spend her golden years with. Penny's previous adopters welcomed a new baby into their home several months ago, and Penny was having difficulty adjusting to the new, tiny human in the home. Penny was nervous and unsure around the infant. Her previous adopters felt she was living in a constant state of anxiety and stress and thought it best she be returned to the rescue for placement in a child-free home. Penny has been in the care of a Pal's Place foster home for several months and is adjusting to her new reality. After losing the only family she's ever known after a decade, she was very scared, confused, and depressed, understandably so, when she first arrived. Her wonderful, nurturing foster parent has given Penny lots of time, patience, space, and love to decompress and acclimate to her foster home. At first, Penny was not interested in interacting with her foster parent at all and would do all she could to avoid them. After several weeks, she slowly started getting comfortable and would accept a few pets from her new caregiver. She's slowly getting braver and more relaxed. Penny now follows her foster around the house, sits on the couch with them, and offers up some tail wags and smiles when greeting them. She is food-motivated, so many yummy, small, high-value treats have helped Penny bond with new humans. She also loves walks and a good game of fetch with one of her stuffies, and Miss P's foster parent incorporates several short walks and play sessions into her day to help facilitate trust and bonding. She is still spooked by quick or sudden movements of her foster parent and still prefers a very slow, deliberate approach. Penny is and most likely will always be extremely shy and skittish with new people and will need guardians who will understand this aspect of her temperament. She is housebroken, crate-trained, quiet, and well-behaved. Penny is being fostered in a home with several other dogs and gets along well with her temporary canine siblings. We feel she may adjust more quickly to her forever home if another dog is in the home. Many shy, nervous, or timid dogs thrive in homes with other dogs as they will look to other pups for cues, comfort, confidence, and support. However, this is not a requirement for her adoption as she has lived for the past ten years as the only dog in the home. Her ideal home is a quiet, adult-only environment with guardians willing and able to give her all the time, love, understanding, and patience she will need to adjust to a new home and new people. Guardians who will not expect her to be affectionate or lovey-dovey with them immediately and ones willing to put in the time and effort to earn her trust. While she may need some extra time and space to bond and trust, once she does, the love, affection, loyalty, playfulness, and companionship she'll return to you will be well worth the effort, and knowing you've helped heal her broken heart by offering her the retirement home she deserves will be incredibly rewarding for all. We understand Penny is not the most adoptable or desirable dog, but we have faith that her humans are out there! If you're looking to give an underdog, a dog who truly needs you, a second chance, a loving, forever home, then Miss P could be your gal. Penny is anxious for her happily ever after; please apply to meet her today! Penny is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date with vaccines, taking monthly flea and heartworm prevention, and is a very healthy mature pooch! Her adoption fee to the rescue is $275. She is in a foster home on Chicago's north side and can be seen by appointment only after an application has been submitted.
