Story
Facebook Post: I've sat and watched Panda during his 3-Day Behavioral Observation to get to know him better before listing him for adoption. This is a dog that was known to be on the run frequently and didn't have a lot of positivity around in the home environment. At this time, I don't see a huge need for training prior to adoption aside from reinforcement as he's well behaved. His next home will need to have rules and boundaries that they are consistent in. Panda is a Karelian Bear Dog (fitting more than 80% of the AKC standard characteristics) which are not common by any means. He's independent, have an amazing sense of direction, stubbornly persistent, and slightly reserved. These breeds are known as silent hunters and Panda is no exception (to a point). He's very quiet unless playing, but even then, he still remains on the quiet side. However, he has shown no prey drive at this time and shows potential to be around cats as he's non-confrontational, eager to please and submissive towards others. (Will cat test upon request to confirm). That all being said, we don't reccomend Panda for hunting (as we had a recent inquiry). While incredibly sweet, he doesn't bond to people quickly and carries that sense of "independence" heavily. If given the opportunity to off-leash, he would likely not come back in the short of amount of time knowing him. He loves adventure and seeing new things. Having a family that also loves adventure will help him feel fulfilled. Panda is amazing on a leash and doesn't give any trouble with pulling. Had great environmental response which you can learn more at his Trello link below. His new family must have secured fencing. While he doesn't try to leave a fenced-in area, he does seem like he wants to learn how our doors work to let himself out. Panda is the kind of dog that will get bored easily and will need enrichment. This is a super sweet dog looking for love. While independent, he loves companionship especially with other dogs. Very easy on the behavioral front where he won't make you pull out your hair but needs to be entertained. Potty Trained but marks in the home. Needs to be neutered.
