Story
Maggie's story it is part of a bonded pair with her brother Chubbs (profile posted separately) to be kept together for rehoming. Please keep adoption inquires within 350 miles of Grand Rapids, MI. Maggie was whelped October 13, 2016 in San Diego, CA and brought to Middleville, MI in December of that year. She is AKC registered. She had a great life, living on 18 acres with pastures to explore and wildlife to chase; her space surrounded by an underground fence, so she knows property boundaries. Maggie is very friendly, loving her human and dog visitors. Her household included two young children and a cat, whom she loved and played with very well. Maggie is sweet-natured, sleeps in a crate (tho she'd rather be on a bed!), is spayed, weighs 95 lbs, has had regular vet visits and meds, and is micro-chipped. Complete vet and AKC records are available. Maggie (with brother Chubbs) needs a loving family to care for her in the adult years, with space to explore and play.

Story
Nessa is a 65 pound, 5 year old LabSky Mix with the warmest smile and the most hilarious head tilts. We love this sweet girl so much. Sweet Nessa has had a very heartbreaking past that has made it hard for her to come out of her shell until she feels comfortable. You may have seen this sweet girl’s sad story online. Our good friends at Kent County Animal Shelter did a fantastic job making her feel safe and loved and getting her ready for rescue, and eventually her forever home.  When she’s comfortable, she is so sweet, goofy, funny and awesome.  Nessa is going to need a very experienced and patient home to show her that she is loved and safe. She is going to bring so much love to a very special home; we are excited to meet the wonderful human that she chooses as her person. Nessa is house trained, and she is working on her crate training; she does well with cats and respectful dogs. She will do best in a home without smaller children. Nessa will need a home with a fenced in yard. She is spayed and up to date on shots. Her adoption fee is $250. To adopt Nessa apply at  www.rescueofhope.com/adoption-application ##2130009##

Story
Maggie was adopted as a stray from a shelter in Mississippi in April 2023, several months before our family moved to the Grand Rapids area. She was presented as around 3 years old, but we believe she is around 6 or 7 years old because of the grey in the fur around her snout. We are looking for a patient home for Maggie; she has some destructive behaviors (mainly tearing open plastic bags/trash bags seeking food) leftover from her days as a stray. Additionally, she will use a doggy door if available to go potty but might have an accident inside the house if left for too long without access to the outside. Maggie is kennel trained for nighttime and when there is no one home. She is sweet, gentle, and low energy most of the time. She is defensive around new animals, and became overly protective when introduced to new animals near our small child after moving. With a new baby on the way, we unfortunately must rehome Maggie to avoid any dangerous incidents around an infant.

Story
Titus, a senior 12 year old lab mix, is as gentle and sweet as can be! He is looking for the perfect home to live out his senior years. He currently lives with three kids (the youngest of which is 11). While he lives, and does well with, his foster family’s resident female dog, he does not do well with most other dogs. He also can not go to a home with cats. Titus absolutely loves every single person he’s ever met and he shows his excitement in the funniest ways! His ideal home would have someone who is home most of the day, although he can be left for several hours and do just fine. He loves being with people, but is also just as happy to nap in another room…just don’t be surprised when he shows up to check on you after he wakes up. Titus gets spurts of silly playfulness and enjoys playing with toys, especially bones and toys that make noise. He has a couple of habits his foster family would like you to know about. He likes to sleep on couches and dog beds. He loves going outside but, due to arthritis, he prefers not to go for walks. Also, he likes to carry his food bowl around room to room when he's eating…you can always find him by following the trail of spilled food. He'd do best if his bowl is stabilized so he can't move it. And when he meets a friendly person, he’ll walk in between their legs and stand there until he is petted. He’s a big dog and it is funny to see, but it can be rather unexpected to others! He came to his foster family with this habit and he is not interested in breaking it, it’s how he shows his affection! And speaking of food, Titus came to the rescue extremely overweight. His previous owner, who had him for about five months, worked very hard with him and helped him lose ten pounds. He has lost an additional 13 pounds while with his foster family. He is also a little picky with the food he will eat. Through trial and error, we've discovered some that make his 'favorite' list.Recent medical records state that Titus has arthritis, and he recently started taking medication. The medication is definitely helping him. He can do some stairs like when going outside, but he currently lives in a two story house and will not go up an entire flight of stairs. He also has some lipomas, likely due to his old age. He has had these checked out by the vet and no action/treatment was recommended for them.If you think you'd like to meet Titus to see if he'd be a good fit, you can check him out on the KAR's website. His foster parents are BValade.    The adoption fee for Titus is $200.Please complete our online application form if you are interested in adopting Titus. A volunteer will contact you as soon as possible. Click here to go to the online adoption form All Kalamazoo Animal Rescue dogs & puppies are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Dogs have been heartworm tested and if appropriate (age and time of year) all dogs and puppies are given heartworm preventative. All are given medication to rid them of roundworms and checked and treated for fleas & ear mites, if needed. Dogs and puppies are given distemper vaccines and depending on how long the pet has been in foster care, additional distemper vaccine(s) may be necessary and the expense will be incurred by the adopter. Any canine over 4 months of age is brought current on the Rabies vaccine. Additional vet care may have been provided depending on the particular animal's needs. Dogs are individually priced as above. Please note that we do not ship dogs and we cannot guarantee that a long trip to see a foster dog will result in an adoption or taking the dog home on that day. It is in the best interest of pooch and owner to enroll in an obedience class soon after adoption. After all, you have a lot to learn about your new friend. The Kalamazoo Dog Training Club offers a discount to owners with newly adopted dogs. Enroll before any behavior problems start - you won't regret it! Story
