Story
LIQUORICE is in a foster home and so ready for his forever family! With that adorable face and those cute ears, combined with his charming personality, you will love him. He is such a sweet, sweet treat of a dog! He always earns high marks in all the pet categories, across the board. Great with all dogs, a good choice for kids, loves his people and is a great snuggler. Mild mannered with a touch of playfulness, he never meets a stranger. He is such a cute, smaller framed fellow. With his sleek black coat, white chest blaze and athletic frame, he is just stinkin' cute folks! At 42lbs, he is a sturdy guy who loves to run and play but also settles nicely. He quickly makes friends wherever he goes and easily mixes and mingles with dogs and people alike. Kids are immediately drawn to his size and charming personality. He loves being the recipient of their many hugs and kisses. He is simply a happy, super friendly guy, a real prize pet waiting for YOU to take him home furever! He is fostered with many doggie friends, is crate trained, housebroken, walks good on leash, rides fine in the car and greets everyone nicely at adoption events. He is 3 years young, 42lbs and heartworm negative. He’s wonderful! The easiest foster dog I’ve ever had. He loves other animals so much and is sad if he ever goes outside without a friend. He needs to be in a home with other animals. He’s shy with new people but will warm up and loves being pet. He’s very good with crating and will immediately crate when he comes back inside hoping for a treat or food. He’s cat friendly. He just ignores them and will run right by them. He loves toys and will collect them in his crate for later; it’s very cute. I would have to go pull a bunch of them out to put back in the toy box just for them to do it again. (4/2/24)

Story
Who was the sweetest gal at our adoption event at Tractor Supply? RUBY! She always had a home and shared it with a chihuahua. She was surrendered when her family moved away. She has been waiting for much too long now to get her chance back into a family, and we have no idea why someone hasn't scooped her up yet. SHARE her, please! She is a delight! She is beautiful and oh so sweet. She absolutely adores her humans and is good with kids. She likes dogs too. If you don't have any, that's fine with her. All she really needs is you and a great toy or 2 and this girl will be in heaven. She loves toys and self entertains. No cats for Ruby. She's 4 years young, 56lbs and heartworm negative. Let's get her back into a loving furever HOME, please.Judy came prancing out of that dog run, happy as can be to get out for a walk. She had some play time to herself for a few minutes and was delighted to find a squeaky ball that everyone in the area knew about very quickly. She loved marching around to the rhythm of the squeak. Judy met male and female dogs very politely but was not really interested in running around with them. In her prior home she had a chihuahua sibling so this meet and greet was not new for her. She has a nice energy level and mostly enjoyed the people and attention from them, and she really loved the toys! I’m sure that is one of many things she has missed from being in a home. Judy is anxious to find her new family and into getting those regular snuggles and pets again. Please give this girl a good look! She's a 4 year old playful girl, who's always eager to play with some new toys. She reacts well to other dogs and is open to meeting new people after she's been introduced. She's curious about her surroundings and ready to explore.

Story
Carmella, smiley, happy and a tail that doesn’t stop wagging. She is sweet and friendly. She was very happy to be out in the sun and grass, met other dogs well but was more interested in having some people time. Carmella loves attention from people and is eager to interact to get some love. Currently in a foster home, she is crate trained and housebroken. She loves to play outside. She enjoys her toys. She doesn't bark very often at all except when she gets excited while playing or when her foster arrives home from work. She is good on leash. She rides good in the car. No cats please; she's too curious about them. While her current foster home has no other pets, Carmella does like other dogs. Laid-back dogs with spurts of playful energy that like to bask in the sun are Carmella's speed. Carmella loves attention and absolutely adores her humans. She will often choose to sit by her human to get belly rubs rather than running and playing with other dogs.

Story
Phantom played nicely off leash with Croc and met sweet little Mollie in playgroups. Very handsome boy, sweet and attentive to volunteers, he says hi before going back to his dog friends. Make sure I am part of the group," our waggy tailed friend PHANTOM shared with us during photo time. Phantom is such an appealing fella with his shiny, sleek coat, broad grin and steady waggy tail. Phantom fit right into the group of dogs we had out for photo time and could not have been more happy nor content to meet other dogs and also hang out with his new human friends. Phantom really enjoyed running and interacting with other dogs (M + F) and if not engaging with doggies, you didn't have to look far to find him schmoozing with humans. A good size lab at 54lbs, we can easily see Mr Handsome setting up shop caring for slightly older/more sturdy kids and adding in some doggy friends to the mix, would surely be icing on the cake. If you are a lab lover and or you enjoy happy, playful, pleasant natured doggies, we encourage you to please check out Phantom. What a great side kick companion pet he'll make for the lucky person and or family unit.Foster update…Phantom, currently in a foster home, is great with all animals. He loves cheese, car rides, and never meets a stranger…he’s always up for making a new friend. Phantom especially enjoys visiting Kalmia Gardens, where he’s content to roll in the grass and take a walk. He’s progressing well with his leash skills, although sometimes he needs a reminder to be more gentle, he’s just happy to be out and about. Phantom is all in if you want to go boating or swim too! He loves water and a home with a pond or lake would be perfect for him. Phantom enjoys his outdoor time but he also is very content to be on a couch, next to his person, and enjoy some good bonding time. His foster says “He’s such a sweet amazing dog. He’s going to be a savior to anybody he ends up with.”

Story
ADOPTION FEE WAIVED! ALSO AVAILABLE TO FOSTER. No doubt you’ve seen those stories about dogs waiting 200, 300 or even 500 days before being adopted. Gilley (short for Gillian) has been at Save the Strays for more than 1,825 days – an incredibly long time to wait for that special someone to come and take her home. Why is she still here?   At 7 years young, Gilley still has a lot of stamina. She’s just crazy for toys and can destroy most of them within 5 minutes. But she has slowed down a bit over the past year and is quite happy to just hang out, get a belly rub and take a nap. She’s really quite sweet and very loyal.    Because Gilley has been here so long, she may need a little time to adjust to a new home and owner. She’s lived in a rural environment with few visitors, so she should be introduced to new sights, sounds and people in small doses. Gilley’s also initially a little uncertain around other dogs, especially if they’re also nervous or too forward. She might do best in a quieter home where she’s the only dog or in a home with only one other laid-back dog of similar size because she will play with other dogs once she’s comfortable with them.     At Save the Strays, we consider the first two weeks (longer, if needed) following adoption to be a trial period and will take Gilley back if the adoption doesn’t work out. We are also waiving Gilley’s adoption fee because we really, really, really want to see her get the home she deserves.    Not quite ready to give a dog a forever home? Gilley is also available to foster if you live within 75 miles of our location. If you have questions or want to apply to adopt or foster Gilley, email us at info@savethestrays.org.        Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 2:52 pm

Story
HOW COULD WE POSSIBLY MAKE PERI MORE ADOPTABLE? Why Peri hasn’t been adopted yet is a complete mystery to us. This 3-year-old lab mix is sweet-natured; good with adults, children and other dogs; house- and crate-trained; microchipped; spayed; up to date on vaccines; heartworm-negative and on prevention. She has the energy to be a good walking or hiking companion but also likes to lounge with you on the couch. She adores attention but doesn’t demand it. And WE'VE EVEN WAIVED HER ADOPTION FEE! What more could an adopter want? Not quite ready to adopt? How about fostering Peri? Come on, dog lovers, Peri is a gem!
