Story
Pacer, a black and tan Miniature Pinscher, about 4.5 years old on 5/19/24, was rescued 2 years ago. He was morbidly obese and appeared to be in a catatonic state when we got him. He was so terrified that he completely shut down and moved so little that we were concerned that he wasn’t even breathing. We took him to the vet to bring him up to date on vaccinations, but decided to wait until he was less terrified before we put him through the trauma of being neutered. He was neutered and vaccinations updated on 5/31/24. Pacer, unfortunately, tested positive for heartworms and is on the slow kill, doxycycline protocol. Pacer will do best in a quiet home with an experienced dog owner. He has come a long way in learning to trust humans, but he still fearful. Due to his fearfulness, he will not be considered for homes with young children and he will only be considered for homes that have a securely fenced yard. He currently weighs about 15 pounds which is a good weight for him. His adoption donation is $250 If you would like to give Pacer the loving home he deserves and help him develop into the confident little guy he can become, please complete the first step in the adoption process by filling out an online adoption applicationYou can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember our organization is staffed completely by volunteers. Please Note: All applications are processed in the order received, but an adoption is made to the best application received for each of our animals. All applicants must provide a vet reference on the adoption application. If you are adopting a dog from ARFA, a fenced in yard for the dog will be required. Home visits often occur with each adoption. ARFA has the right to deny adoption to any applicant for any reason without explanation. Please remember that the adoption donation is not for the purchase of the dog, but rather to help cover the medical costs of all dogs in our care. THE FINE PRINT 1. Animal Rescue Fund Arkansas reserves the right to deny any application, for any reason without explanation to the applicant. 2. You understand that we often take many applications on the same animal and that they are processed in the order that they come in. An application is in no way a reservation for any animal or a guarantee that you will be selected to adopt the animal. 3. If your application Is approved, you will be asked to sign a separate adoption contract. 4. Once the trial period is over, usually 1 week unless there are special circumstances, the adoption donation cannot be returned to you for any reason. It will have been used to help rescue another homeless animal and is no longer available therefore, if you return the dog to us for any reason, you will not be refunded your donation. Please remember that if you no longer want the dog, it must be returned to A.R.F.A. 5. If the animal you want to adopt is placed in another home, you can transfer your application to another A.R.F.A. animal without completing additional paperwork. 6. You understand that this is a rescued pet. We rarely have any information about their past life circumstances. We have all animals examined by a vet, brought up to date on shots, given their rabies vaccine, spayed/neutered (If old enough), wormed and checked for heartworms and if positive begin treatment. We do our best to ensure that we are placing healthy pets but can make no guarantee to the health or temperament of this pet, and vet expenses are the responsibility of the adoptive family from the date of the adoption. We require that you take the pet to a vet within one week of adoption for a check-up and to allow your vet to get a baseline for your new pet’s health

Story
Lucy is a 23lb, four-year-old Dachshund mix with a heart full of love and a charming personality that will steal your heart. Despite her prematurely gray muzzle, she’s still a young pup at heart who adores life’s simple pleasures. Her favorite activities include going on leisurely walks, curling up in your lap for some cuddle time, zoomies at dinner time and gazing into your eyes with an intensity that speaks of her deep bond with her human companions. While Lucy is friendly with other dogs, she dreams of being the center of attention in her forever home. She is great in her create, where she sleeps all night. Because she does not like small children, Lucy is best suited for a home with adults or older kids who can give her the love she deserves.Lucy does have allergies, but don’t let that deter you! She has been tested and is receiving treatment, including a weekly allergy shot to keep her comfortable and happy. Out of the Woods will continue to provide these shots, ensuring her care is as easy as possible for her new family. She does require a diet that excludes chicken in any form. (You just have to read ingredients closely as most dog food and treats slip some chicken fat or bi-product in there.)If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will be your lap warmer, walking buddy, and best friend, Lucy is ready to meet you. She’s waiting for a special family to give her the love and attention she so richly deserves. We would love to tell you all about her... just fill out an application. Her adoption fee is $150.
